What thing are you convinced is going to happen in TROS that could absolutely be served up as a hot take?

Not just a theory, but a conviction you hold that might be considered wild?

Could be something almost vanilla like Anakin's force ghost appearing, or it could be a wilder idea like Rey time traveling and becoming Shmi- as long as you believe it probably will happen, it's fair game!

    I'll start with mine:

I'm convinced that we'll see Clone Wars tech in action during a battle scene. Maybe B1s, or Hailfire droids, or even an AT-TE. To be clear, a simple weapon won't suffice, I'm talking droids, armor, or vehicles.

    And it will be glorious.

Rey is not just "Rey Nobody"
Vader - maybe as Anakin, but the Chosen One will have a message for his grandson

One thing I've been pondering is how TROS will handle the idea of the Chosen One since all signs indicate Palpatine is returning. I can see this going a few ways:

-Palpatine returns in some way but stays dead (he's a ghost/clone/hologram), leaving the prophecy basically untouched.
-Rey or Ben is explicitly retconned to be the Chosen One so they can be the ones to kill Palpatine.
-Something like "The Lego Movie" - everyone is the Chosen One!
-Palpatine comes back to life, is killed again, and the prophecy and Chosen One are just never referenced. IMO this would basically put the ST in direct contradiction with the PT.

My currently wildest theory is that we will learn of either a familial connection between the Original Skywalker and Darth Plagueis the Wise, or that they are in fact the same person.

    I second that. :D

Also, the resistance/republic is directly involved in abandoning Rey in Jakku.

Palpatine (or some part of him) is still tied to the shell of the Death Star. He is "released" in some way when they enter it to find something of significance. When the Force Awakened, it wasn't just in Rey, it was also in darkness, whether that is just Sidious or something more ancient (like a Sith carbonite army).

We haven't seen the last of Luke. Luke will return like Gandalf from the other side, free of the darkness that clouded his mind in a higher plane of connection with the Force. He will truly live out Obi-wan's claim that he will become more powerful than anything we can believe when he was struck down.

We will learn about Finn's origins as a parallel to learn about Rey's origins.

Kylo Ben becomes a lesser evil when the new big bad arrives. Maybe this helps with his return to the light or it helps him finish what his grandfather started, the destruction of the Sith.

Here’s a theory I’ve always stuck by. (Some of you have heard it already from me.) It is simple, elegant, and solves many issues:

Rey is the reincarnation of Anakin Skywalker.
What kind of problems will this solve? The following:

    1) Disney won’t have any fear showing Hayden Christensen, but still have his character as the main hero to close the Skywalker story. ( It also explains why yoda and kenobi (his voice) ghosts appeared...but no Anakin.)
2)It will kinda, sorta, a little bit, make Rey a Skywalker.
    3) It will bring some much-needed mysticism to the series. Like Avatar: The Last Airbender, the reincarnated chosen one has happened throughout time. Kinda makes you want to see where and when the next Chosen One will appear in the galaxy. Thus, strengthen the lore of Star Wars. (Fyi, Dave Filoni also worked as a writer in Avatar: The Last Airbender.)
    4) It will explain why Rey is so strong with the Force so suddenly, why she can fly a ship without having flown one before, etc. Because she is Anakin.
    5) The final conflict involving Palpatine will thrust the Vader (Anakin) vs. Emperor fight to the forefront. The conflict in IX will be the final showdown between the two. I always thought Vader tossing the emperor down a shaft in VI was a bit abrupt. Well, now’s the chance to make it as epic as possible.

Since ever the Sith Troopers were announced I thought they are clones. The FO uses clones while the Resistance uses battle droids form the PT era. This is also the reason why 3PO's memories are important.

I think the FO is involved.

I also suspected remnants of the Empire / early First Order were responsible for Rey's situation on Jakku, but I like the idea of the Resistance being the ones to blame here. Mirrors the situation with Ben and the FO.

Now that's a hot take, and one that I might agree with as well.

In fact, I was convinced before TLJ that Rey was once an apprentice of Snoke's alongside Kylo, and that she's been mind wiped and left on Jakku- either by Snoke, Kylo, or Luke- thought the Republic is a possibility as well.

I don't know, something about how Kylo and Snoke interact with her and talk about her, as well as a few other characters like Luke/Leia/Han just seem like they know of her already, and in some cases that they're testing her to see what she remembers.

Maybe that could still be the case.

My reasoning here is that if Rey feels betrayed by her “side” there are more chances for her character to go off the rails and for Kylo to be of help to her in this instance, advising her not to lose her way or follow the wrong path as he did... more fuel for Kylo’s redemption arc :)

This is a cool idea with a lot of positive aspects, but I also see some potential issues with it.

First, reincarnation has never been a part of Star Wars. Even if it is something that only applies to the Chosen One, there is no indication that there were previous incarnations before Anakin.

Second, in my opinion, the triumph of the Chosen One over the Sith was supposed to be a one-time event that changed things forever - so it would be quite odd for it to just keep happening over and over.

As the lights go down in theaters all over the globe, the famous crawl of the greatest film series of all time blast across the screen one more time as we bid farewell to the saga of Skywalker...

The film starts off with a bang, with Chewie and Lando blasting their way through waves of First Order troops on the surface of the new Starkiller Base 2.0. They eventually capture Hux, who has since been demoted to Private 2nd class. We cut to a dreary, dank warehouse where Hux is tied up and Chewie has apparently beaten Hux for hours. Lando watches on, sipping a diet Coke, trying to get answers from Hux on Kylo Ren's location, but Hux manages to hold out. Suddenly, Captain Phasma appears, a little burned but otherwise fine, and tells Lando and Chewie everything with absolutely no fight at all.

Meanwhile, the heroes of the Resistance are waiting on a jungle planet, planning out their next attack against the First Order. Leia, Poe, and Finn sit at a picnic table, enjoying roasted porgs as they go over a space map of the nearby star system. Poe points to the map and circles 'Secret First Order Base' with a red magic marker.
"That's where we should attack," says Poe.
Leia smiles proudly. "I knew you would be a great leader Poe. And speaking of great, who knew that C3P0 was such a great cook? These porgs are the best thing I've ever had!"
Finn almost chokes on his excitement. "I know right! Have you tried the teriyaki??"
Poe laughs. "It's chipotle, or nothing for me!" He grabs another bite.

Nearby, Rey continues her Jedi training. She finishes yet another book when Kylo Ren appears via Force Skype.
"Rey, I know who your real parents are," says Kylo. "If you join me, I'll tell you for real this time."
"You said they were filthy junk traders," Rey replied.
"I was just messing with you. Your father is someone of great wisdom and importance. If'-"
"Forget it, I'm not joining you Kylo!" spat Rey.
"Have it your way." replied Kylo. He vanishes.

All the heroes are eventually reunited aboard the Millennium Falcon.
In the back of the Falcon, Leia, Poe, and Maz Kanata are sitting and playing hologram chess. Suddenly, there is a knock on the cargo door. Leia, very confused as the ship is currently in hyper-speed, walks over to the door. "Umm, who is it?"
The door bursts open, and it is none other than Han Solo. "I'm home!" he exclaims.
Leia is shocked. "Han?? I thought you were.."
Han grins. "Well, you won't believe what happened. See, I-"
Maz interrupts, "A great story, for another time. Right now, we've got to stop the evil Kylo Ren!"
    Han sighs. "Yeah...my son."
Leia sits down, suddenly very sad. "Han, it's time you knew the truth. Kylo may not be your son after all."
    Han's eyes widen. "Huh?"
Leia looks down. "There is a fifty-fifty chance that Snoke is his father. Now listen-"
"Never tell me the odds!" Han shouts, and storms off.

Rey, Lando, Chewie, Ghost Luke, and Finn sit in the cockpit, approaching the First Order base.
Lando looks down, worried. "Now we find out if the security code is worth the price we paid guys."
Chewie turns to Lando, asking "Grrrgaahh wereeeaahhh?"
Lando replies, "I gave them five bucks and the rest of my honey roasted porgs."
Chewie slams his paws in frustration. Ghost Luke pats Chewie on the head. "Easy, Chewie. I know the real code anyway."
Rey turns to Ghost Luke. "What is it?"
Ghost Luke smiles, looking very proud of himself. "1138."
"Anything else you can tell us?" asks Lando.
"Sorry." replies Ghost Luke. "I've passed on all I know."

Han enters the cockpit, and everyone gasps. Lando stands up from the controls.
"No wait, I thought you were dead!" exclaims Lando.
"Nope. Han Solo has just stolen the Falcon back, again, for the last time. Stand aside Lando!" exclaims Han. He shoves Lando out of the way and jumps into the pilot's seat.
Ghost Luke looks at Han and says, "What? If I had known you were gonna be in this movie, I would have held out longer back on Ach-to! It's not fair!"
Han grins. "That's your problem kid."
Finn stands next to Han, amazed. "I can't believe you're here, Solo! I was so sure that-"
Han turns to Finn annoyed. "Did you just call me Solo?"
Finn looks down. "Well, you let that Imperial officer name you, that's not my fault-"
Han interrupts, leaning close towards Finn. "Listen Big Deal, you got another problem. Fathers always find out the truth. Always."
Han points to Lando, who is getting back to his feet, and then points to Finn's cell phone. Finn looks at his own phone, remembering that his screen saver is a picture of himself and Jannah with pink hearts all over the screen. Finn gulps, and slowly looks towards Lando. Lando looks back at him, eyes narrow. Finn smiles nervously.

Rey leans forward in her seat, suddenly sensing a disturbance in the Force.
"My father is down there, somewhere on that base," she whispered.
Han looks at her. "How do you know?"
Rey closes her eyes. "I can feel it. I sense him. Also, I sense light...darkness...balance...life...death...cold-'"
Han interrupts, "Yeah yeah yeah, where's Kylo?"

Rey reaches out with the Force, using Force Skype again. She finds him somewhere deep in the base, sitting in a tub and taking a bubble bath. She winces, turning away.
"Like what you see?" asks Kylo.
"Do you ever wear clothes?" she asks.
"Come on Rey. You want this. I want this. Even those weirdo fans want this."
    Rey gags.

"He's in Snoke's private bathroom, east wing," said Rey.
Han starts flipping switches. "Chewie, lock and load. We're gonna bury that mother f-"
Chewie roars in approval. Lando steps next to Han. "Han, isn't that your kid?"
"Never mind! Chewie prepare the bombs," answers Han.

Rey looks at a control panel on the side. "Han, Leia is trying to get you on the radio."
Han looks annoyed. "Turned it off. I don't wanna talk to her."
Rey flips a switch. "I'm patching her through now. We need to hear what she wants to say."
The intercom crackles, and Leia's voice bursts through the cockpit speakers. "Han, I'm sorry for what happened. But, if you see my son...bring him home, ok?"
Han stares ahead. "Fire." Chewie pushes the giant red button on his panel marked 'nuke.'

Kylo is sitting in Snoke's old chair, wearing nothing but his helmet and a towel around his waist. He stares ahead at the charred remains of Darth Vader's helmet. "I still feel the call to the light. Perhaps it's not too late grandfather. I will follow your example, and join the light. I renounce the First Order, and the Dark Side. I will be a Jedi, like my family before me. I-"
He looks up, hearing a loud noise out of the window. He gets up and looks out just in time to see the entire payload of bombs and weaponry launched from the Falcon as it blows him and the whole base into a million pieces.

Han leans back in his seat, relived. Chewie roars in victory. Rey leans over and hugs Chewie. "We did it!" she exclaims. Finn laughs and high fives Han, Chewie, and holds his hand up to Lando.
Lando stares at Finn. He grabs Finn by the collar of his vest and leans close. "You got a lotta guts if you think you can date my daughter behind my back, you little pirate!"

Rey leans forward, suddenly serious again. "It's not over.."
Chewie looks at Rey. Rey gets up and runs out of the cockpit. She goes towards the back of the Falcon, and launches herself towards the planet inside one of the escape pods.

Rey lands down on the surface which is covered in trees, scared but brave. "I know someone is here," she shouts out into the forest. She walks forward, and sees a figure standing on top of a hill. It is the one and only Sheev Palpatine, handsome as ever.
"Hello, young Rey. I've been looking forward to meeting you here. Your journey has finally met its end."

Rey slowly walks up to Palpatine, lightsaber drawn. Palps reaches out to her with a small wooden box...not unlike the box which contained the Skywalker lightsaber underneath Maz's castle. "Please, take this," says Palpatine.
Rey hesitates, and then takes the box, and opens it. Inside is a doll...of a rebel pilot. She touches it, and instantly sees a vision of herself as a young child on Jakku....

Palpatine is there, discussing something with Unkar Plutt.
"You really want to leave her with me while you go all the way to Coruscant for a quart of milk?" asks Unkar, confused.
"Some day when you have kids, you'll understand that you need some time alone once in a while. Besides, I'll be right back!" replied Palpatine.
Palps gets in a ship and flies away. Young Rey cries out, but is hushed by Unkar...

Rey, now looking at Palpatine, a single tear falls from her eye. "Papa? Why didn't you come back?"
Palpatine, now crying as well, says "Gosh kiddo. I'm so sorry. You wouldn't believe the traffic on Coruscant!"
Rey wipes at her eyes. "Did you at least get the milk?"
Palpatine holds out a quart of milk. "Is blue milk ok?"
Rey looks up, with a sweet smile. "My favorite."
They both laugh, and Rey jumps into her father's arms, laughing and crying. Palps holds his daughter, never letting go again.

The Force ghosts of Luke, Yoda, Kenobi, and Anakin appear, all holding champagne glasses. They toast the reunited family, and we iris out to -
    -Directed by JJ Abrams.

    The crowd goes wild.

I was still taking an SW break around the time the title came out so I would not be surprised if this theory hasn’t already been thrown out there but mine involves the title. I think “Skywalker” will evolve from a surname to title that will replace Jedi.

First, I don't have any "theory" that I'm wedded to. First and foremost, I just want an awesome film that will truly tie the saga together.

Okay, with that out of the way... I've been thinking for many months now that Rey is either the reincarnation of Anakin or (and it's this latter part that I really like) she is a clone of Anakin. The empire had his DNA afterall. As the war against the Rebels wound down, Palpatine saw there was a possibility things weren't going to go his way so to speak, and part of his contingency plan (or one of them???) was to have a number of clones of Anakin made. Those clones would then be raised under the same circumstances (abandoned on a desert planet, etc...). However, the plan wasn't fully put into effect. That is until Rey was either found or released or whatever.

I like the idea of her being a clone of Anakin, thus the saber was calling to her and went to her instead of Kylo. Of course this also works if she is the reincarnation of Anakin, so either one I think would be cool.
