All right, there are 95 pages on this thread, so apologies if this has been posted here before, but thoughts on this, if you've seen it?:

Right off the bat, I disagreed with this guy. Well, first of all, because I disagree with the general premise that "Rebels Sucks", but moreso because his early argument that we don't see any non-Stormtroopers die on screen somehow reduces the quality of the series. I totally and wholeheartedly disagree, I think that's extremely nitpicky and a kinda weak argument to lead with.

He had some other arguments that I really disagreed with, too- calling Sabine a "Mary Sue" because she's sixteen, Mandalorian Royalty, talented, and has a black lightsaber. I mean, sure, some of that does sound a little crazy, but it's not like that's the state we first meet her in. We've seen her fight and ascend her way through Mandalorian politics and earn the Darksaber. Plus- from watching his The Clone Wars video, I can tell you he's a huge Maul fanboy... let's see: Maul is risen from near death, he's a darkside user, he has a black lightsaber, and becomes Mandalorian Royalty. Hmmmmm..... it's almost like we've got a bit of a double standard here...

There's a lot of this "I don't like it, but I'm not great at articulating why" kind of stuff, which I totally get. He made it pretty clear in his intro that these are just his subjective opinions on the matter, so I can't fault him for that, nor can I really do much to criticize that argument. It's not a particularly convincing argument, but I've totally been in the same boat before, so I get it.

Three argument rang true for me-
1. Zeb brings nothing (or at least very little) to the show, and we may well have been better off without him.
2. Ezra's presence on the show actually does a lot to detract from the better elements.
3. The show's formula is a bit repetitive.

Just to address those- first with #1. I do agree that Zeb is more often annoying than actually interesting or useful. I like having an interesting alien on the team, and I'm glad he's not just a Chewbacca clone, but as a character he just doesn't do a lot for me. The Lasat plotline seems like it could be good, but I think the fact that we've never even heard of the Lasat before Rebels kind of diminishes their emotional impact, so much so that the somewhat hackneyed wookie subplot of the very first episode seemed to have more of an emotional impact. I do really appreciate that he's based on concept art of Chewie, though. That's really neat!

Regarding replacing Zeb with Rex right from the start... I really, really like that idea. Wish they'd gone with that.

#2- I honestly probably don't need to go too into detail with this one. It's well known that Ezra isn't everyone's favorite character, and I think most people have their own reasons for that. Specifically, though, I think this guy does a great job explaining how Ezra seems to actively ruin the plot, rather than (like Zeb) simply add little.

#3- I'd agree that Rebels can be a little formulaic at times, but to me, that's not that big of a deal. The good guys kinda have to win, because unlike in The Clone Wars, we don't really have heroes to spare right now. Plus, it makes the moments like Twilight of the Apprentice all the more important.

Also, once again, he's a huge Clone Wars fan. Even if the good guys don't win episode to episode, they typically pull together at the end of one of their overextended arcs. So, that's basically the same thing.


Finally, I really dislike the "Kids' show" argument. Dude, it's on Disney XD. Of course this is a show marketed for kids. That doesn't mean adults can't still enjoy it, they just have to go in with appropriate expectations. And to be honest, this explains so much of what he (and I) see flaws with.

Zeb (as the big grumpy alien) is a great character for kids to laugh at. Ezra is one they can relate to. Of course we don't see awful deaths on screen.

I think rather than complaining that a kids show doesn't step up to meet his specific standards, one could also argue that he's not allowing himself to get into the mind of a child and appreciate Star Wars from that perspective.
