Main Kylo Ren/Adam Driver Episode IX Thread

Has anyone else read the Allegiance comic (this is a lead up story to TROS) that came out yesterday? Very little Kylo in that issue, but Rey's struggling with something that I sort of wonder if it's affecting them both.

Luke kept trying to find good in his father after just knowing about him for a few hours in ROTJ. There's not really any evidence that he was trying to find good in his father in ESB at the end; Luke's just horrified and awed at Vader.

Vader: Luke.

Luke: Father!
Vader: Son.

....

Luke: It's Vader.
....
Luke: Ben...why didn't you tell me? (*Looks up, horrified).

I find it weirder that of all the things that Luke could have been upset about Vader in ROTJ, it's about the potential possibility of Leia (somehow) turning to the dark side that makes Luke fight against him. Not for the death of Biggs. Not for the deaths of the rebels, not for the death of Dack (which was indirectly caused by Vader's pursuit of Luke and the rebels), not for Vader's compliance in the destruction of Alderaan, not for Vader torturing Han, (Leia), and Chewie, not for interrogating Leia, it's the potential possibility of someone turning evil somehow, which would be Leia's choice anyway. Unless Luke is interpreting this as Leia being killed or subjected to harm or torture, I see little reason for him to get upset, aside from the fact that Vader was taunting him and provoking him to fight. It almost feels insulting.

I actually find Luke's response to Kylo much more realistic. There's pain and death to people that Luke loves, he sees and hears it in the vision, so it's not just a verbal taunt, and he knows that visions have come true before in Empire.

 

If we had Episodes X, XI, and XII, I would have enjoyed seeing Kylo assume the mantle of Darth.

 

Ok, so here's my prediction and I'll put it in spoiler tags (even though it's not an actual spoiler because I don't know the ending any more than you all do).

Rey will go to confront the manifestation of Palpatine (whatever it is) and ultimately lose and be incapacitated, but not dead. I know, downer if you're a Rey stan but anyway. Rey will lose, and the Ben-demption will then happen (please note, I'm not a fan of Ben-demption but as this is the end of the Skywalker saga it's hard to imagine it doesn't happen). Ben will confront the Palpatine manifestation and similarly be losing just as bad as Rey was and then we'll hear voices.

Specifically the voice over from the trailer. Showing Rey during the trailer was a misdirect. It's Luke saying, "The Force Will Be With You" to Ben and Leia cosigning that statement by saying,"Always" giving him encouragement to go on and ultimately win. Kylo will slay the Palpatine entity.

And in this way, he will have finished what his grandfather started. Vader begin Palpatine's demise, Kylo will finish it, but perish in the process. Finn and Poe will rescue Rey as their surroundings self destruct, and escape before an explosion that signifies the Empire is entirely defeated and eradicated.

It will he interesting to see if in TRoS if there is any interaction between Leia and Ben. I’ve heard they have limited scenes of Carrie to work with, but I hold out hope Kylo might have a moment with his mom.

 

The plot can do whatever it wants at this point. I'd be completely satisfied, since Kylo fulfilled ESB Vader's role in TLJ and appears to do some in this film. Also, I'm not sure how they would have Driver interact without Carrie Fisher if Kylo met with Leia in a scene. I guess movie science can do some things, but to this degree? I'm not sure.

 

The easiest interaction would be to have Leia stare in a direction and give a look of either sorrow or love, and then film Ben looking back at her and it appear they both are looking at each other. I mean Luke gave Threepio only a wink in TLJ. So it could work.

 

I look forward to him not answering questions in-character or in a kayfabe way anymore.

 

He should start a Youtube channel and wear the Kylo Mask and answer fan mail. #KyloKnowsBest

 

Isn't this the end of ROTJ? Rey is Luke and Ben is Vader?

 

If they were going for the symmetry then yes (and I'm not entirely sure they are given how much the ST has been criticized from lifting from the OT). Still it would fit in the regard that I mentioned within the spoiler tag.

So much for Kylo’s “let the past die, the Sith, the Jedi, let it all die.” It reminded me of Sam Niel a Templar Knight in Ivahoe when he tells the Jewess Rebecca, “come with me, I will make a new order.”

I got this pin in the Smuggler's Bounty box for October 2019 (which was FIRE if you love Kylo and the KOR) and I'm seeing it labeled as a new FO symbol. Is that right? I had never seen it before receiving it in the SB box. It's a bit of an improvement on the other one, which, pardon me, looks a bit like a butthole.
