This week should see the $2 billion mark crossed globally and $900 million mark domestic.

What you said is true . . . from a certain point of view. TFA already caught and passed Titanic's first run ($1,843,201,268).* Titanic made over 300 million on its 3D conversion re-release, which had the added benefit of including China.

It will be very interesting to see what happens if Disney re-releases TFA in the run-up to Episode VIII.

*if you are into inflation-adjusted, I believe Titanic's first run is still ahead and probably stays ahead.

Note the theater per AVG. It's kinda funny that if it had the full 4,000 theaters it would be #1 again.... hahaha

@Old Biff from the Future I hope your wife does the accounting at your house ...

I am happy but TFA is still doing well, but the average of Kung Fu Panda 3 is much, much better ($4,218 vs. $10,367). With this average and 4000 theaters, TFA would have made about $16.9M. In comparison, Kung Fu Panda 3 made $41.0M.

KFP3 is going to burn out a lot faster. Not to mention that a $41 million domestic opening for a $145 million film isn't exactly the greatest start.

I should also note that SWTFA made similar numbers to KFP3's opening weekend on its fourth weekend.

    Less than 5M until 900.

Where do you guys think it will end up? 915M is my guess but I hope for 930M.

Analysis of domestic week six (January 22-28):

TFA posted a 19.6 million week, third most for a sixth week in movie history, behind Avatar and Titanic. It had week to day drops between 27 and 58.5 percent (with one exception, a big drop for the Monday after MLK day); it did not obtain any daily records.

The sixth week saw TFA showing in 3365 theater screens; it is going down to 2,556 screens in week eight. It remains on an Avengers/JW trajectory, but it is now tracking closer to Avengers than Jurassic World. This could always change.

Because the DVD/Blu-ray is coming out on April 5, I am now going to project that TFA will leave the theaters just before that time. The fifteenth week ends on March 31, so that is my current projected end date.

Future projection, revised to include this week's results (and DVD/Blu-ray coming out on April 5):

If TFA goes to a 30% week to day drop, it will hit $920 million domestic in week ten and finish somewhere around $930-935 million.
If TFA goes to a 40% week to day drop, it will hit $916-917 million domestic in week ten and finish somewhere around $920 million.
If TFA goes to a 50% week to day drop, it will finish around $912 million.

if it goes to an Avatar/Titanic trajectory and starts showing stronger legs, then this could happen:

If TFA goes to a 10% week to day drop, it will hit $940 million somewhere near week eleven, and finish around $980 million.
If TFA goes to a 20% week to day drop, it will finish somewhere around $950 million.

Wish we could gather enough following for this coming weekend for one final push to drive up the numbers one more time. I'll go one more time to help the cause.

I have just worked out that I have spent £77 on tickets for THE FORCE AWAKENS should I go for the nice round £100

The Force Awakens has now taken close to £120 Million at the UK box office or $170 Million for comparison purposes

It is still quite possible but difficult to get in a IMAX screening at a decent time where I live. It's either 13.00 or 18.15 or 22.00 :p. I can only pick the 22.00 one, because I'm at work all day.:(

STAR WARS The Force Awakens took in it's first day under 1 million dollars at $780,785. This drop falls even below last years Jurassic World's $925,750.

It seems that TFA numbers are all over the place and it's very hard to put a finger on a final number.

With that low Monday number as the basis for the current pace, we are now looking at a 915-922 million dollar finish.

Before people go crazy and call it flop status for dumb reason's (as seen on an actual Box Office only message discussion forum) . Remember, that even even with all that adjust for inflation garbage it will finish its FIRST run in 11th place all-time (DOM)

What is funny about all this talk over at those boards, is the simple fact that early predictions had this film in the 620-750 (DOM) at the box. There was even some talk about an 560 DOM run at one time and a WW take of 1.1 -1.3 million.

So, word to the wise is that this is an amazing and incredible run domestically.

    Bring on Rogue One
