That's a good point. Talking about smokescreens... I'd much rather know how we got where we are instead of who Rey's parents are.

Classic. Such an appropriate line for a child thrust into a hopeless battle situation.

I don't think disturbing the remaints of the dead ones, especially if they're people of such importance in Naboo's history as queen Amidala. Her tomb is most likely in a highly representative place and if someone decided to take that pendant from her corpse this would have been noticed and no such act would take place.

Echoing @NinjaRen, I'm going to say this:

I think it would be cool if Rey and Ren switched sides. What if Rey turns to the Dark Side and Kylo returns to the light, making Rey the antagonist and Ren the protagonist moving forward? This would also let Kylo Ren be the trilogy's "Skywalker," and Rey could be anyone, satisfying the camp (which I'm a part of) that wants her to be a Skywalker.

I'm tellin' you, this would be a plot twist in the real sense of the term. No one would see it coming (well, except us).

 

Yeah, but a plot twist should also make some sense. It's not only about the shocking moment, it's also about how it fits the story. Rey turning to the dark side wouldn't fit very well to the overall story.

Btw "No one would see it coming" is pretty much a misconceptions of twists. A great twist isn't about "wow, I didn't see that coming", it's about "of course, it makes so much sense".

 

My apologies for giving that impression. Of course it would need to make sense. And I think TFA already gave us a seed for it: Rey was tempted by the Dark Side in TFA, and likely will be again, while Kylo was shaken by his father's murder and continues to feel the pull of the light.

I think there might be 2 plot twists in TLJ:

1st: Luke & Church of the Force are somehow responsible for Rey being stranded on Jakku.
2nd: There is a traitor in the Resistance. (Maz Kanata?) She sends Finn into a trap.

 

Maz would never. Doesn't fit the character. If anyone is a traitor, it will be the Laura Dern character.

 

He finds it in Vader' castle and turns back to the light side after realizing Vader grave robbed his own wife

I don't think it would be. You just have establish them as part of the resistance early and there you go.

 

I'm a two hour movie, hey would have to set her up, explain where she was in TFA, why she of all people is so intertwined in the resistance and why she suddenly wants to betray them

 

If it's done well, you really wouldn't need to spend that much time. She's supposed to be very tied to Leia which gives plenty of context to her without having to explain much with exposition
I don't think you have to explain the why, at least not in this movie given that it's the second part of a three part film.
That can be in the third.

 

Knowing Disney and LFL since 2014, they would probably do little to no exposition and then wait 5-10 years to write a little comic or a book about her

 

My personal thoughts on what might be good twists (some may have already been mentioned prior, so apologies for any repetition):

• Finn has an inhibitor chip which not only gives away the location of the Resistance, but also can be used to force him to act against and sabotage the Resistance. This could well be saved for IX, mind, but Phasma's decision to so willingly give up on Starkiller (thus instantly cementing Finn as a Resistance hero) and his sudden turn at the start of TFA, despite conditioning and training since birth, could, in hindsight, strengthen the story.
• The film will end with the FO having captured Rey, whom Snoke or Kylo will likely attempt to seduce to the Dark Side.
• Likewise, the film could also end with Kylo's turn, not so much from the Dark Side, but, rather, against Snoke.
• Hux or Phasma will be killed by Snoke or Kylo by the midway point of the film due to the events that occurred on Starkiller Base.

 

I'm still praying that Rey's mother turns out to be Melanie C AKA Sporty Spice.

She even has Jedi powers and everything!
