Hi, so I've just returned from watching TFA at my movie theater and I really want to discuss Supreme Leader Snoke and why I think that he (still) might be Plagueis.

Firstly, when you watch the movie a second time, pay attention to the music during Kylo's meetings with Snoke. It is the same song as the one playing when Sidious tells Anakin the tragedy of Darth Plagueis. I immediately recognised it for its deep bass voices.

Secondly, when Kylo talks to Han, he says 'my master is wise'. It's not such a big evidence but Sith Lords/ dark side users are not necessarily associated with wisdom.

Thirdly, Snoke is not a person in flesh but a projection or a (force) ghost. After the conversations, he disappears again. Is he living on a different planet? Is he communicating from the netherworld?

So, what do you guys think about this ? I know there is a lot of opposition against the idea that Snoke is Plagueis, but I just wanted to clarify my point.

Also this is my first post after the Introduction post. Stay friendly.

    Darth Koraak

I think it's very possible. But I don't think it feels right, honestly. There's no way that Plagueis was that big, right? Was the hologram of Snoke enlarged?

    That's just the physical problem.

There's also the logical problem. I think there would need to be a lot of extra explanation somewhere to explain to more casual fans who he even is. Where has he been for the past 50 years? Would we see what he was doing during the OT and PT?

Im not saying I wouldn't like it, but who in the movies would have even heard of him? What would that reveal look like?

Where does the name Snoke come from?

Snoke was projected as a hologram. At the end of the first meeting with Hux and Kylo Ren, you can see that it is a hologram when the transmission ends. It is difficult to say what his real size is, but he did not look like a Muun. For me, it has become less likely that Snoke is Plagueis, but not entirely impossible.

If you remember from ESB, Palpatine/Sidious was also "enlarged" in a hologram, even though it was half of his body. They might be doing that for effect. He might actually be small and shriveled up, like Palpatine. But it would be cool if he was both physically and "Magically" (for lack of a better word) intimidating.

    He has a mobile base.
And yea the themes are very similiar.
Maybe Snoke is just a nickname to keep him secret.
Maybe he controles some people as Plaguies and some as Snoke.

Yes, now that you mention it, I do think his hologram (if it is one) was enlarged.
I don't really think there might be a logical problem. Not everything needs to be explained, a simple reveal of his true name and his intentions would do it. It would be a nod to the geeks and new viewers would realise who Snoke truly is.
Or maybe I just really want Snoke to be Plagueis, but either way he is an interesting character and the fact that Han, Leia and even Luke know about him and his dark-side alliance makes him a really cool character to look forward to. Andy Serkis did an awesome job.

I don't know if Snoke is Plagueis or whatever .Either way is fine with me and i have and will continue to mostly stay out of the debate.

I must say i enjoyed his scenes very much though. Enlarging his hologram like that was a stroke of genius and made him look very powerful . He had a mostly calm and controlled demeanor which made him appear old and wise but when he spoke of Rey and wanted them to "BRIIIING HEEER TO MEEE!" and the camera zoomed in on his face you could see how truly dark and evil he was.

He's definitely a hologram, but why project him so big, if he's not so big. Just for intimidation.

Also, is it canon that he's a Muun? I don't think so. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_Plagueis

I thought it was in the Tarkin novel, which is canon. I could be wrong though.

We already know from an interview that Snoke is supposed to be just 7 feet tall.

No, Plagueis species is undefined in canon, it is not mentioned in Tarkin or any other canon source so far.

I have a hunch that Snoke is really small, Yoda-small.
He is also my least favorite thing of The Force Awakens. Bah.
Better to have Ben find out about the Dark Side on his own.

I liked him. He's mysterious and seemingly force-sensitive. If he's huge, that would be very unique for SW. I would dig it. If he's small, that could be a cool reveal, since he's been portrayed as massive.

I think that interview isn't reliable. It wasn't JJ. Serkis himself only said he was "big."

Also, I'm not sure that anyone knows how big he is. It hasn't been important to the story yet. Technically, that could be Rian Johnson's call.

Well who knows for sure, but it was a very specific comment from the creature designer Neal Scanlan.

Not feeling it buddy. Kinda funny that Snoke was kept like a Palpatine so we can't shut this down either way, still!

I don't get why so many people want him to be in fact Darth Plagueis. Maybe I'm wrong, but to me the whole point of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader story was that he was "the chosen one", was a powerful Jedi, then turned to the dark side but eventually, at the end, he destroyed the Sith (killed the master and, as apprentice, turned back to the light side). Sith are gone, forever. So bringing another one from the dead ruins completely Anakin's story. Makes it meaningless. All this effort to destroy the Sith is nullified because screenwriters of new trilogy wanted a new and powerful villain. That's why I hope he's someone new, not Plagueis, not Palpatine reborn or anything like that.

Well, according to how they're constantly take and twist the Expanded Universe (sry, Legends, simply cannot get used to it) in this one, I would not be surprised if Snoke, even as it is, is still a Darth Plagues, while not being a Munn. Kylo wasn't named Jacen also, but is still a dark son of Han and Leia. They even borrowed the name from another son from the EU ...I mean, Legends (dammit)
