What I love most about TLJ is how JJA's idiotic "mystery box" blew up in his face. If he's nailed down a back story for Snoke and Rey none of this could have happened, if he'd included Luke none of this would have happened, if he'd given Phasma something of a character it would have played out differently. His toying with the audience left all this wide open and RJ simply swept it all away LOL

The Last Jedi blew my mind. It was nothing I expected, but everything I could've ever wanted. I am simply stunned. Of course, like any movie, there were parts that faltered: moments that seemed like a bit of a reach, some characters/motivations not fully explained, etc. But the cinematography, the pacing, the bold risks, the incredible performances launches this film to the near top of the Star Wars franchise.

Pure Snoke fans exist? Like they like him over everyone else? That makes very little sense for the reasons laid out. No backstory. But hey to each his own. Someone who loves Snoke above everyone else is probably as hard to find as a Jedi in the ST.

Speaking of chemistry, you reminded me of something. Rey and Poe: 2 films, one scene. And furthermore, they would not let Rey talk to Poe until his character suffered the brunt of the deconstruction in this movie. Rey has yet to interact with a male outside of Chewie and Snoke who wasn't nerfbatted.

Loved it! Might be my new favorite honestly. Rian took elements from the OT, PT, and put his own unique spin on things to push the boundaries. I totally see why he got his own trilogy. The Force is strong with this one.

I enjoyed this movie but it is not great. It's good in my eyes. Rian Johnson made some really bold and daring choices. But really beyond my enjoyment of the movie, a sad fact has hit me and I know I am going to get a ton of hate/ shock: my love of Star Wars has been dwindling.

Look, I'm not going to take away those people who love this franchise in the NC or even the ST. But honestly, I am feeling burned out. A lot of it comes from LF's choices, namely with how LF has chosen to handle the OT characters. And to be honest, as a Legends fan; I find a lot of the NC disappointing. Not awful, as stuff like Thrawn and Bloodline are excellent.

But it is clear that the franchise has moved in a direction I'm uncertain about. It could be good or bad. So yeah, I will rewatch The Last Jedi, but aside from Episode Nine, I may not even see Han Solo or any of the newer movies.

That's one thing I appreciated but also didn't like. Look, I'm not going to say that I like JJ Abrams' work. Far from it, outside Mission Impossible 3. But given how LucasFilm hired him to helm the first entry, I do think Rian should have been a bit more respectful towards how he handled those elements, without spoilers. But really, as someone who purely despises mystery boxes, I am so happy.

But I have a sinking feeling that LucasFilm is going to double down on Abrams and his style more than ever given the polarized backlash of this movie. Because, The Force Awakens played it safe, but amid the euphoria of SWs returning. Now, with this radical direction, the question is if the general public will be tolerating of it?

Because, even though this movie felt like the end of the Saga, I am genuinely curious to see how Episode Nine works out.

Yeah although I have some mixed feelings on TLJ I think it's quite interesting to think about what they're going to do for IX. Because this did almost feel like the end of the trilogy. So JJ has a ton of options, but one reservation I have is that he I think has even admitted he's not so good as closing a story as he is as starting one.

Honestly, it is one of the reasons why I'm not so confident in episode nine. Beyond my dislike of Abrams as a director(he seems like a nice guy and is a great producer), this is going to be a huge challenge for him. Because, I'm sorry; if the franchise goes back to what The Force Awakens is/ a more simplistic storyline/ ignore the events of TLJ I am going to be disappointed.

Because really the way TLJ established its ending a lot could happen. For example, could you imagine seeing a big time jump and seeing Rey raising a group of Jedi, while Kylo has trained up his Knights of Ren and has taken control of half the galaxy? That would be an epic showdown to see as we'd get Lightsaber vs Lightsaber action via KOTOR/ TOR.

But yeah, Abrams, he needs to really be cognizant going forward because depending on how the ST ends, I may just give up on the new SWs movies entirely. Because, it is basically LF dipping their toe in this unknown territory and then immediately pulling it out.

I agree, something like that would be an epic way to go that I think you could create a film that appeals to the mass audiences as well as the more hardcore fans.

Like you said though, I am not so optimistic about that with JJ as I'm not quite sure he can/wants to do something on a large scale and we'll see another smaller kind of limited world just following the main characters around.

I was hoping that RJ was going to expand the story space more and that's one thing I find myself a little disappointed in. It was better than TFA but still kind of felt like the universe was small and following around the characters rather than the characters being a part of a much larger story and universe.

    I'm calling it now.
Ep IX will be shattered in two acts, to erase VIII for what it's possible.
Rottentomatoes audience score is 57% while I'm writing.
Only TPM and AOTC get less.

There were obviously fans who wanted his character to pan out and have a great backstory and arc. They were primed for it by the hype machine and previous SW movies. I can see why they were disappointed -- a lot of people are complaining about it. I had zero curiosity about the character and didn't see any narrative future for him so I'm down with just killing him off.

Something just isn't adding up...RT critic score is so high but viewers is so low...IMDB rating is pretty good but reviews are mixed, MetaCritic is very high, the ComScore/Screen Engine score is very high, Google viewer score is pretty high, i'd say YouTube videos are pretty good, too. AND...Disney was so confident in the film that they gave Johnson an entire new trilogy. What gives?

Good to hear. I'll be seeing it soon but I'm almost feeling a little guilty when I read/watch reviews from people like Harloff, Stuckmann, Campea and Ward saying how much they love the move and I get excited because I tend to agree with their reviews.
