For TFA and TLJ, the writers should at least avoid borrowing from OT. That means they have to consider not repeating Darth Vader, Luke the Jedi and orphan on a desert planet, Luke the pilot, R2D2, the Emperor, death stars, and so on.

    WHAT I LIKE
    The intensity
    Canto Bight stampede/escape
    Opening battle
    Holdo's "Cruiser" missile
    The Final battle
    Rey/Kylo v Snoke guards
    Finn/Phasma fight
    Rose Tico
Luke v KR and the FO
    Luke and Yoda
Poe Dameron becoming the Rebel leader

    DID NOT LIKE
    Porgs
Rey cave scene - seemed to have no bearing on the film/plot
    Porgs
    Snoke being a throwaway character
"The supreme leader is dead, long live the supreme leader"
    Did I mention Porgs?

WHERE THEY GO IN EP. IX
    FO controls the galaxy
Will be set 1 1/2 to 3 years after end of TLJ
Leia is reforming New Republic senate
    Otherwise .... ?????

All-in-all I really like the movie, but not as much as I thought I would. I am surprised at the shocked fan backlash. RJ does not believe in boundaries. That is clear in his previous films. My only major issues with the film are the porgs, Snoke's too easy death, and Rey's cave scene.

I think this would be my current rankings. Those this is likely to change over the next 6-8 months
    1. RO
    2. ( tie )ESB/ROTS
    4. TFA
    5. TLJ
    6. ROTJ
    7. AOTC
    8. ANH
    9. Clone Wars
    10. TPM
