I absolutely enjoyed it, and think it was a great follow-up to The Force Awakens. It was definitely not what I expected, and I had some issues with it, but overall I liked it.

I love The Last Jedi. I've seen it twice now and want to say that I came into it with The Force Awakens being my favorite film of the saga and Rey as my favorite character. It may be premature at this point since I've seen The Force Awakens more times than I can count, but The Last Jedi seems to have surpassed it.

Rian Johnson exceeded my hopes and took Star Wars in a direction that I'm very excited about. There were multiple scenes that literally left me with my mouth open in shock on my first viewing and anticipation to see them again on my second. I can see how certain choices and character arcs could leave those with different expectations disappointed, but those are all things that I loved about it.

5/5. 10/10. ST all the way.

I'm definitely onboard with this trilogy and i'm not one of the "Star Wars was hijacked by corporate hacks!" guys. I really like TFA and TLJ a lot. I'm looking forward to watching them back to back at some point.

"For over a thousand years the Jedi were guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic..."

Notice he did not say a word about the Skywalkers. There were Jedi before the Skywalkers and there will be Jedi after the Skywalkers.

I loved this movie. I loved the slick humor of Poe. I loved the heart of Rey. I loved the torment within Ren. I loved the newfound determination of Finn. And I loved the return of Yoda.

The first time I saw it for much of the first two thirds of the film it was engaging and I enjoyed it but it seemed like a bunch of typical Star Wars scenes and I was on the fence, mostly because I wasn't sure if it was really going anywhere, but from the fight with the Pretorian guard and the Holdo manouver onwards it was great. By the end, and reinforced by a second viewing, I consider it possibly the best film of the entire series.

A few observations about the films detractors:
    • I don't understand why people are so upset by the revelation about Rey's parents. Riain himself, amongst others, told us it was irrelevant over a year ago. Rey is the star of the story not her ancestry. We don't know who the parents of many movie heros were and no one had a problem with them.
    • The same with Snoke. We don't know anything about him because he is unimportant to the overall story, his role was merely to set things up for Kylo.
    • The Porgs were handled great, not overdone and didn't detract from any scene they featured in, they made a positive contribution.
    • "It's not a Star Wars film!" So what? You want the same old film rehashed endlessly? They needed to shake things up and go in a new direction, especially after the FA copy and paste of a new hope. The same thing happened with the novels, they were fine but it was often the same old formula until SW finally grew up with the NJO.

The only thing that was annoying is Poe getting a pat on the head for learning about leadership after he got over 95% of the Resistance personnel killed. He should of been at the very least banished (although they are far to desperate to throw him out). They should of been furious with him not all "good boy, you finally learned". He already learned bout leadership twice in the comics and novels. Cannot stand him. The whole Canto Bight sequence was fairly forgettable.

Overall I loved the film. Probably the best Star Wars film yet. By the end it felt as if it was a prologue setting up a new series of films not the second part of a trilogy. Cannot see how they are going to wrap it up in one film.

I'm right there with you. Honestly I'm debating whether or not it's my favorite SW movie. I still put ESB and ANH above it, but I'm gonna have to watch it many more times to really judge. For me the biggest thing that I love about it is the commentary on religion and how man-made structures, and the failure of those structures, can make you lose sight of what it is that you believe in.

Since none of the poll answers represent my thoughts, I'll write it here (I would have answered with 'undecided')

Rian Johnson has made an extraordinary film, and my feelings about it have been terribly conflicted over the last 3 days. I've never had such a hard time trying to decide if I 'liked' a movie. I've been going back and forth about certain things, such as hating what he did to Luke, then thinking it was a master stroke, and then hating it again! I'm still not sure what to think. I'll have to watch it again.

I think Rian has created an incredible film. He took all the inspirations for Star Wars and hieghtened them. I loved the the me of the film, very unusual. What he did in the thrown room was great, very Kurosawa. In loved the western nod to Luke at the end of the film, very Leone. I thought the scenes in canto bight were different, but rI minds me of locations in KOTOR. Another great thing I liked was Yoda and Luke, Yoda pretty much hunting at a self sacrifice at the end of the film. Time will tell whether fans that hate the film will embrace it. If not, then that’s ok; everyone is entitled to their own opinions and tastes.

This is EXACTLY how I feel. Right now I feel like looking for another book or tv series that's similar but does a better job of mixing fantasy and sci fi together. I heard the Battlestar Galactica series remake is good. I haven't watched Stargate in a loong time. What's out there guys that's better than SW? Because to me, Disney killed it, smashed my fictional world that I like to escape in every now and then.

More than 'a few butthurt fanboys'.. it has a 56% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes the lowest for any film in the Star Wars saga with 110'000 reviews. LOL!!

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Rian Johnson The Foolish? I thought not. It's not a story Disney would tell you.

I can't say I love it, which is a shame.

Personally for me I think it's more the way Disney and the Directors have chosen to take the trilogy, which is fine to many, but it's just not my cup of tea. In comparison I rate TFA higher and RO higher still.

As much as I felt Leia space walk scene "unnatural", it's actually reflecting current understanding of space.

We used to think human would explode in vacuum space, but later some accidents and followed on research proved that not only human wouldn't "explode", but can also survive in vacuum for several minutes. Obviously, pulling one back to the ship require uses of the Force...

The quote you use was very early in the release. So now ill say. a lot of butthurt fanboys.

Has a ' A : on cinema score, which is much more accurate than other fan measurements.

I say Bravo Rian, Bravo. I'm a OT baby, Seven years old when the Star wars opened in 77. It changed my life forever and I love TLJ.

You didn't like it, thats fine. But you lot need to get over it. Move on, dust of the OT VHS. Crying like a two year old at every opportuntity isn't changing anything

Besides only physics, it is not supposed to take place on a motionless ship. This one was moving and moving fast, it should suppose it made 500 miles during the whole incident. Sorry but a spaceship don't wait for you if you are ejected.

Oh and when they are opening the door to Leia noone is aspirated outside.

It's a weird film because when I watch it, it's a lot a of fun and very moving at times, but then afterward the plot holes and bad characterization are so stark it's hard to say it's a great film. I originally gave the movie a 9.5, but I'm lowering my grade to 8.3, a solid B. I really have to wonder why the Jedi lore and Snoke weren't explored more in this film. It's like Rian and LFL are afraid to world build. While we see new powers, we have no idea what the overall metaphysical struggle is all about or how Snoke and Kylo are any different from the Sith. Before the movie came out, I predicted on the TFN forums that this would be an entertaining film full of spectacle, but that the plot would be brainless. I was right.

I enjoyed the overall experience. There are things I would have done differently however. The Finn/Rose adventure was fairly boring. It felt as though its main purpose was to waste time. It does not achieve anything else. Also, Captain Phasma was wasted for the second film in a row. I think it would have been great to turn her into a DarthVaderesque character, not in that she is the main villain, but that she would be more intimidating than many or all of the characters. Luke also was kind of underused, and I wish he would have actually fought Kylo Ren.That said, I feel that the positives outweigh the negatives. Luke is different (duh), but his brokenness aids in developing the tone of the movie as well as to make up for the time between ROTJ and TLJ. What was most interesting to me was how Rey, who was basically a female Luke in TFA, skips right over the second of the three "Luke phases". In ESB, Luke has become an impatient careless, and angry person, who is set out on destroying Vader. In ROTJ however, he is very calm and compassionate, because of his increased maturity, and also because he knew Vader was his father. Rey is angry with Kylo Ren to begin with, but quickly shows compassion for him. I like how this separates her from Luke, and I'm exited to see her progression in episode IX. To answer this question (very lengthy answer) I would put it at number 4, being ANH, TFA, and ESB.

I have no issue with those who loved the movie, I personally am split though. One thing that bothered me is how quickly the movie's events too place, and how at the end there didn't seem to be very much progress in the story

I didn’t like it. Nor did I like “The Force Awakens”. It’s interesting that the first two movies of the Sequel Trilogy are the only two Star Wars movies that I DID NOT LIKE. As for “The Last Jedi” . . .

I had hoped that Rian Johnson, who had made “Looper”, would make a better film. He didn’t. One, he copied so much from the Original Trilogy films. Too much, as far as I’m concerned. J.J. Abrams has nothing on Johnson. Worse, the latter even used his Cid character from “Looper” as a template for Kylo Ren. Who, by the way, STILL came off as a second-rate Anakin Skywalker.

Rey not only remained a Mary Sue, but also became something of an idiot for allowing herself to be manipulated in that way. Hmmm . . . perhaps she is no longer a Mary Sue. But the character of Marie Tico seemed to be one. Judging by the addition of Rose, I gather the Disney suits are determined that Rey, a white woman and Finn, a black man, will never become romantically involved.

As you can see, I’m not a Reylo fan. This story arc involving Rey and Ren seemed so contrived. It probably would have worked if they had known each other a lot longer than they did or if the time span between “The Force Awakens” and “The Last Jedi” had been more than a day or two. But that didn’t happen. And because of the very shot period of time between the two movies, this scenario DID NOT work for me. And yet, fans are squealing over the possibility of a toxic and rushed relationship like Rey/Ren as if it was the ultimate sci-fi romance.

Poe Dameron proved to be an even bigger idiot than Rey. Johnson turned him into a cliche of a hotshot pilot, straight out of “Top Gun”. Rose annoyed me because she continually undermined Finn’s choices by being self righteous and controlling. Snoke is just as big of a mystery as he was in the 2015 film. We know nothing about him. And he came off as a second-rate Palpatine. I also noticed there were two situations that seemed straight from “Thor: Ragnarok” featuring the death of a major supporting character and a small group of survivors. Is Disney creating basic narrative situations to be used in many of their movies and different franchises?

Anything good from this movie? Well . . . visually, it looked good. The music was well handled, but I don’t recall anything particularly memorable. John Boyega gave his usual first-rate performance. Benecio del Toro was amusing. We got to see a lot more of Carrie Fisher. I must admit that I did like the casino sequence. And Domhall Gleeson actually made me feel sorry for General Hux by the end of the film. The character realized that he was stuck with the whining man child as his “supreme leader”.

I would rank "The Last Jedi" near the bottom of my list, between "Return of the Jedi" and "The Force Awakens".
