After the joke that TFA turned out to be I swore I wouldn't spend even a penny to see another SW film and I haven't......and I won't.

Yes, I will give my money to Disney, especially when Star Wars Land is done. However, I have the satisfaction of knowing they probably gave more money to me than I will to them, though.

I just checked my holdings, and if I own Disney stock, I can't find it. It must have been sold after TFA, because I know for a fact it was in my top 15 holdings at that time. So that means all my mutual funds bailed on DIS. I wonder if they just didn't like the ST?

Huh. I just checked quotes on DIS, and it has been stagnant since TFA. It shot up through the first years of this decade and then- just stopped. Which is weird because most stock has gone up spectacularly in the last year. Really weird. Oh well, that's why I buy funds instead of individual stocks. The managers obviously know something I don't.

Disney needed to make bank on this movie, and I wonder if all of this negative feedback will hurt them, It just might, more than we know. We keep talking about absolute dollar values that this movie has made, which is a lot, but all of that was already baked into stock prices and budgets. If it doesn't meet expectations, it's gonna hurt, no matter how many millions it makes.

I invested a lot of money over 2 years to understand the new canon lore, buying books, comics, games, RPG books and blu rays....and now we get a movie that turns all the lore on its head.....so while I will continue to watch the movies and buy the blu ray, I see no reason to invest in other materials which are worthless considering how much they are ignored.

I don't really buy Star Wars stuff other than the novels. Will I continue to buy them, read them and enjoy to do so?

Hell yes. Bring out more I say.

If you have it in you to literally swear off an entire film franchise, might I suggest also swearing off logging onto forums for later entries of said film franchise to brag about not having seen said later entry of said film franchise.

@master_shaitan, touché and you're welcome lol. I paid to see Trash Factor Addition (TFA) once in the theater, and actually considered leaving about 2/3 of the way through. Then I made the mistake of giving it a second chance on TV about a year or so later just to see if it had/would grow on me. Needless to say I only made it about half way through and just couldn't take anymore. It's a gawd-awful abomination lol. Anyway, I saw R1 on TV twice and though it was ok. I won't even bother discussing The Last Joke (TLJ). As it stands now, Disney is a very loose 1 for 3 in my books. Even TPM and AotC are great compared to the ST. I haven't spent a dime on SW since that theater viewing of TFA and I will not spend money on SW again, unless some future film wins me back.

@Ben Lewis, I'm not bragging, and I didn't say I was swearing off SW altogether, I just said I'd never pay good money to see it again. I will definitely be watching SW and Ep9 on TV going forward because I just gotta see how this ST train-wreck of an abomination ends lol.

I really just can't fathom how fans of this franchise see TFA and TLJ as good additions to SW lol. I mean geeezus people......come on man lol! Sign of the times I guess.

I wasn't insulted by the movie. I was disappointed in it. I don't hate it, but it was the first Star Wars movie that I wasn't smiling when I left the theatre. I'm old enough to have seen the original OT movies in the theatre. I saw the Special Editions, Prequels, TFA, and Rogue One multiple times and rushed out to buy merchandise after leaving the theatre watching them. Not this time. I've always been excited to see where the story goes in the next chapter of a trilogy. Not this time. I admit I need to go watch TLJ again, I'm just not ready to quite yet. I'll watch Solo and Episode 9 when the time comes, but my Star Wars enthusiasm is at an all time low at the moment.

I'm not insulted, I'm just confused. I went into this movie open minded since I was kind of indifferent towards TFA. This has nothing to do with Disney besides guiding the bigger picture for LFL, but rather the leadership and direction that Kathleen is guiding lucasfilm in. Of course he wasn't given the kind of freedom they are advertising, but he still had a great deal of freedom. That can be both a good and a bad thing.

As for Disney having no real love for their properties, Disney's current strategy is to buy companies to grow their portfolio with properties that are already making money so it saves their bottom line in development costs for tentpoles and other new IPs and technologies. Disney is, for the most part, allowing LFL to do what they do with minimal interference similar to Marvel.

With all of that being said, I wil still watch IX because I am simply just more curious than anything with what they will be doing now that the entire saga and all has been turned on its head. I don't appreciate it, but it is what it is and if I'm a true star wars fan, then I have to deal with it

I'm still not getting all of the hate. Had my second showing last night and once I was able to watch the story unfold and get past what was in my head leading up to TLJ, I found it to be a wonderfully crafted film.

Yep...I'll be spending money, on the books, some merchandise, and video releases, and most definitely in theatrical releases.

The closest I came to giving up was in AOTC during the droid factory scene.

I'm not sure being a Star Wars fan necessarily means we should just accept the direction these new movies are taking. I think it is important to ask oneself why are you a star wars fan in the first place? Secondly ask yourself is what you love about Star Wars in alignment with what the movies have become? If you feel these new movies no longer feel like Star Wars films. If they are somehow missing the essence of what Star Wars means to you I think as fans maybe we shouldn't give Disney/Lucasfilm the impression that it doesn't matter if we like them or not. That regardless whether we like them or not we will still give them our money. Surely that will perpetuate more bad movies to come and is that something we want? I think at the very least we might have to consider waiting till we know more from non spoiler reviews before we part with our money again.

Having said all of that I wouldn't expect anyone to actually do that. Fans should use their money anyway they want to and if you would rather see a new Star Wars movie immediately as soon as it's released, I respect that. We should feel some excitement when a new Star Wars movie is released or at least curiosity and maybe even a little hope.

The reason I created this thread is that I wonder if our hasty curiosity is healthy for the franchise? I wonder if Disney/Lucasfilm/Johnson ect, ect deserves our immediate curiosity because a movie they put out has a Star Wars label on it? Normally as someone who is interested in film in general I don't get tricked by the hype of a particular movie. I will normally wait a couple of weeks, listen and read a few non spoiler reviews before I make up my mind whether I want to risk possibly wasting my time and money watching a movie that could potentially not be very enjoyable or worse. I ask myself why is Star Wars different in that regard? I always seem to get taken in by the hype and I'm always disappointed.

My Star Wars resides in the original trilogy and in my childhood. I know deep down it's a tall order to expect the new movies to equal what those old movies mean to me. I'm not expecting to be brought back to my childhood, that's a silly expectation. I would just, at the very least want these new movies to honour Lucas' legacy, be respectful to what those original movies meant to it's fans and the world. To me what Johnson created was not only sloppy film making but so disrespectful to the original trilogy, to George Lucas and to fans like myself.

Again I don't expect everyone to think like me that wouldn't be right. People see the movie in different ways. People have been introduced to the franchise in different ways and Star Wars I guess means different things to different people. I'm only really speaking to the fans that will agree with the way I saw the movie and I don't expect people that love TLJ to understand where people like me are coming from.

The worst SW scene ever. Even the horrible romance of Anakin and Padme cant beat that horrible C3p0.
I bought one more ticket to TLJ, friday at 9pm.

There's an idea in these forums that there are true fans and fake, wanna be or fair weather fans. I don't count myself as one of those. If you choose to not watch the films on the silver screen, that doesn't make you any less of a fan. These days you can often get a better experience at home. When the quality is questionable in your opinion, why dish out the Benjamins for something you might or likely won't enjoy?

THAT'S for damn sure!!!! I've seen TLJ twice now and both times I had to endure folks just not knowing how to act. But that happens every time I go to a movie in a theater. Home theater has ruined the actual theater experience.

Rule one of going to a movie: SHOW UP ON TIME!!!! (sorry...but that's a huge pet peeve for me. If you come in five minutes into a film......just don't)

Yeah I went in on a lot of that too but in all of it there was 0 actual confirmation of any Lore that TLJ contradicted. There were lots of fan theories that were based on possibilities laid out but seeing that some of those possibilities were also what we saw confirmed when the time came in TLJ. I can't speak for you but there were lots of fans who had very clear strident positions about what would be revealed in TLJ many of them who held those strident views seem disappointed. Some of them have even talked about how the film changed after multiple viewings and they really like the film. I just find it really odd that for 2 years we debated several theories. Of those theories there were few surprises that weren't predicted at least in outline within those debates. There were Rey Solo, Rey Skywalkers, Rey Kenobis, Rey Palpatines, Rey new immaculate conception, and Rey no one. Some people were wrong, but its not a surprise if literally someone saw it coming either in foreshadow or production comment. The new canon has been pretty tightly held as it pertains to the big mysteries. Lots of fodder for forum speculation (free advertising in the universe of social media) but little real evidence that fits the truth.

What Disney did with Luke is unforgivable and borderline suicidal.
They've pissed everyone off and left such a bad taste in fan's mouths, that moving forward, the viability of the franchise which up until this time has been money in the bank, is now in question.
Personally I think TLJ has inflicted a fatal wound on the GFFA. The franchise is now on life support. Disney better change course quick, ie get rid of JJ Abrams, and chose a writer/director for Episode 9 who actually has talent. Otherwise it is all over.
