The more I watch EP VIII more I am sure in it.Luke is realising....at the end.
The same moment of Luke's revelation Rey feels something, first, and than his sister Leia rises head and feels it to....

I'm not stating facts, but simply find it interesting that the creators of the ST would choose to empathize with a creepy, predatory male figure in light of the recent outrage amongst Hollyweird over assault in various forms, particularly with a female heroine.

I think that the relationship demonstrated in TLJ is toxic, and if you had children as I do, you might not want to entertain that idea going past the said rejection. Unfortunately, that is not what I see when people are talking about shipping the Rey/Kylo dynamic in various threads and forums - I guess I can bucket you into that group as well?

While I don't really expect it, some of us are hopeful for a less crappy version of the Skywalker legacy outside of Kylo - you know, a nicer bookend to that family that must not be named after 2019. Ben stabbed his father in the effing chest FFS - he can only be redeemed in death

Ahhhh yes.... The lasting legacy of the Skywalkers, high pants.

You can of course enjoy fan theories.
I thought you weren't aware of what JJ abrams said about Rey and Luke and just wanted to point that out.
My apologies if I came across as a knob,

No problem! I'm aware of all that's been said, but I do like reading some fan theories. Or should I say, some fan theories - not the totally "out there" ones (like Snoke was Mace Windu?). With Rey, I'm not expecting or getting any hopes up about them expanding on her parents. However, I do feel like they set it up so that it could be changed if they wanted to do so. They could easily say that Kylo was lying to her. I think there's different possibilities, but it won't ruin my life if they don't change it. That just means that I can continue to complain about them making her parents drunk deadbeats. :)

That is basically where Rey-Kylo romantic relationship fails to be the satissfactory choice for way to many people including me.
I have nothing against 10 years older Dark prince to find diamond girl was born by Force for him to find love.
The problem is him,Kylo, he is abusive, egoistic, power hungry disturbed patricidal individual,... and by the terminology of psychiatrists, after choices he made in ep VIII. , and the path he chosed by himself, he is "fixed" as such.

There is a chance, that he maybe saved little Rey (child of Luke and Aya) from slaughter in Jedi temple, so by this their destinies are connected trough the Force, this could be his saving grace.
This(video below) scene from Rey's vision from ep . VII is still haunting me, If we presume there is left anything of cohesion between the films , this scene shows Kylo saved Rey once during a slaughter....
Of course this all makes 2 Rey's Drunkard parents talk a Kylo's giberish to trash Rey's origins and get powerfull allie, or , in worst case if true about her parents-an irreparable error for those who seek for cohesion of the story between ther ep VII. and VIII.

Yet it’s perfectly fine for a son to love and stop at nothing to redeem his evil father?

    Don’t get your logic.

And Harvey Weinstein raping women (a revelation that came after TLJ was made for what it is worth) isn’t comparable to a fictional character using the force to steal memories from an enemy combatant.

SW is a fairy tale about compassion and love. It constantly teaches us to reject hate and embrace love. ReyLo is this theme in action.

    Ps. I have two kids.

I would say you'd be right, but when that same 'son' contemplates killing his nephew for lesser forms of evil deeds (as far as we know onscreen), that statement strikes me as funny - especially from those that loved the story choices for Luke in TLJ. Of course, Luke may have had a wife and child(ren) at the academy which prompted his uncharacteristic actions out of fear and protection.

I didn't insinuate that they should have for seen the Weinstein issue, just that it's an interesting dynamic now in retrospect, how could it be viewed going forward, and could it affect the direction of their relationship. Toxic (sexual/emotional) relationships shouldn't be winning out at the end of the day. Ben needs to die, and Rey would be a great replacement as a Skywalker by blood, or by connection to Luke's past. There really can't be a future for Reylo outside of her accepting his repentance and then .......well....cut to the end...he dies. Maybe she could spare him, but Rey's not going to try out a relationship after Kylo's soul rehabs in her new Praxeum for a few months. Empathy isn't the same thing as attraction.

Now that looks like a proper descendant of the Skywalker legacy!

    A) Luke didn’t truly consider killing Ben. He momentarily reacted out of fear. He instantly realised he was acting crazy. Luke didn’t have a wife and child.

    B) ReyLo is a misleading name. No one in their right might expects Rey to get with Kylo Ren. And the “ReyLo” situation came to an end in TLJ when Ren rejected Rey’s plea to come back to the light. My point was that TLJ showed the attraction existed. Going forward, I believe Ben will be redeemed and that there could be a romantic moment for the two. But nothing will happen on any level unless he rejects the dark side and gives up everything he has attained through his evil actions.

    C) Your eyes can deceive you, don’t trust them.

    A) I'm pretty sure I used the word 'contemplates' and offered a speculative comment about a wife and child, but you can't deny the irony in using that statement about Luke attempting to save his father, and defend his characterization in TLJ. It's pretty funny.....

    B) Reylo on any level is a bad idea. Her accepting a remorseful speech at the end is about as far as it should go. There are many people on this site and others that want an honest to god, full on romance which is somewhat shocking.

    C) Hope springs eternal.

I didn’t have a problem with Luke wanting to save his father. I used the example to highlight the hypocrisy of people condemning Rey for having compassion for Ren whilst accepting Luke’s compassion for Vader.

I think that is a minority. And it would depend wholly on Ben returning and making things right. I don’t think it is ever a bad idea to show the redemptive and transformative power of love in a fairy tale. Personally, I think Ben will perish but will die for Rey and the galaxy.

“You know this kind of behaviour could qualify as sexual harassment”.

(You’re either going to be impressed by my filmic knowledge or think me a weirdo).

Luke tells to Rey he has felt Ben would destroy "everything he loved".

    ..Luke was instinctively protective.

If Aya was in the academy, Luke had massive reason to be protective.

In a sloughter his Jedi trainees died, but I think also the Aya died.I want to believe this is the true pain that was in the heart of Luke Skywalker.

This will put Luke's fall and self-exile into much more realistic, and serrious while also a human perspective.

However, their one child, a girl , survived, spared (if Rey's vision from ep VII is true) by Kylo. She somehow survived against all odds, came into hands of some scavangers probably...

The fact Kylo spared Rey's life created the Force bond between them. This act could be also Ben's saving grace.

    Aya's end...

    Rey watching..and spared.
    Rey left.

    One thing is peculiar also:

Luke has disconnected himself from the Force .
He cant feel anything, though he asks Rey" who are you"?
Something else and jet untold bothers him.

Also, Yoda literally punches Luke in his head with a stick telling him : "You don't see things that are in front of your nose".

But at the end Luke putts together all peaces of the puzzle....look at Luke's face, this is face of revelation, and please Look the "second sun" which is actually an optic illusion a shape of a giant bird "wind truster", symbol of Lew'el, Aya.

...as the sign of perfection, of great work of art, Luke's robe has been taken away at the end by this same wind that was driving "Wind truster" towards him....

When I think of high waist pants and a naked torso in SW, this comes to mind.... :p

Um. I read the book I saw the movie. His 12 year old fishing friend makes absolutely 0 additional in canon further time with Luke. The fact that he uses similar fishing techniques is a nice easter egg.

Here is my biggest issue with the entire idea that Aya is secretly (other than you seeing it plain as day in the smoke signals). The story from Legends of Luke Skywalker is centered around Luke learning to let go of control. Its a great thematic story. But its a lesson that is mirrored in TLJ Luke literally is bemoaning life because he didn't trust the Force and tried to Control what was happening to Ben. Then he was trying to save Rey by the same means. Yoda shows up and reminds him to let go.

This is almost precisely what Lucas talks about with the temptation with the Darkside. Its about control the more you seek control the more you will do to keep control the more evil you become. Luke had the best intensions but even in his pure motives was taken by a subtle temptation to control.

Now if the story of Fishing on the Tide was so galaxy shattering important why wasn't it something Luke obviously learned rather than show up an anecdotal story.

Further I don't care about the Padme and Anakin Age difference you see the change. You are suggesting that Disney introduced us to a 12 year old girl who is apparently the love of an adult Luke but then saying don't worry he didn't hook up with for 10 years. Disney isn't going to risk that kreep factor.

Lastly if they are going to introduce us to the love of Luke's life they aren't going to skip the entire romance, kill Luke before they have a reunion and then reveal oh by the way ole dead Luke Skywalker could mentioned he's your dad but no.

She is exactly what she has been clearly said to be. The actress was surprised anyone still thought there was any question after TFA.

If Aya was at the academy and was killed there, I don't think this could be her end. TLJ shows when Ben destroyed the academy, he was Ben. He wasn't dressing as Kylo at the time. The flash back from TFA couldn't be the academy destruction. Plus in the academy flashback in the TFA (Luke putting his hand on R2) and in TLJ, it isn't raining either. The flashback you have posted is from another time, maybe past, maybe future.

Aya is Force sensitive young woman, found as a stowaway on a cargo ship. She is telling her story how she befriended Luke when she was child of 12 , years ago.Luke's visit to her planet Lew'el changed her life, literally since Luke saved her from certain death obviously by the will of the Force, and spiritualy, since Aya felt she got a role in the bringing balance in the Tide, and felt desire to see the galaxy and find Luke one day.

Potential of this story is immense. Will it be used in the film in its full potential?

    Who knows.

Yes I am familiar with the book. I know who the girl is.

Wishing for an idea you believe has potential is fun but its not evidence. And there are a number of things working against the idea.

Well, at least she is highy force sensitive, and has gone to find Luke.

Perhaps she would have some other story.

She is descibed as very strong and determend character, with vision of her role in the balance of the Tide that is far beyond scope of a short storytale.

    In my eyes.

btw as already noted, for some reason author of the book found worth of mentioning Aya has this facial feature-
    [IMG]
described as having dimples on her cheeks, which is a sign of beauty and not very common facial feature, while been hereditary.

...peculiar that author mentions this exact facial feature detail of Aya-Glon, since actress Daisy Ridley which is acting girl that is one generation after Aya-Glon, is also known to have very expressed cheek dimples.

[IMG] ...not that this is proof of anything, but I find this coincidence to be cute.

In the elevator scene, just before Snoke's throne room...Kylo is telling :" Rey, I sough who your parents are....." it stops there and the scene at Snoke unfolds.

After killing Snoke , Kylo tells to Rey about 2 drunkards......

But...in my eyes, in that Elevator, before they successfuly killed Snoke ...Kylo approached to Rey with that parents question in different way, like he had something else to tell her..it didn't looked like he wanted to face her with "horrible truth about her parents"...It was moment of honesty, before facing uncertain outcome (probabaly even death!)at Snoke.

Now why Kylo wanted to tell Rey if her parents were 2 drukards , to tell this in that Elevator before Snoke, it has no any significance , why would he want to do so in that moment before she faces Snoke(with good prospect she will die)?
Kylo wanted, again in my eyes,in this elevator, to tell Rey something else, but changed his mind after they killed Snoke..

Interestingly, just after elevator, Rian Johnson again pressess Rey's parentage question by Snoke telling about Rey: "I thought it would be another Skywalker, ."..wrongly..", again in my eyes leaving question mark.

That is why I think Kylo knows who Rey's true parents are. He wants Rey as an ally, thus manipulates the truth.
Kylo holds the truth from everyone, including Snoke, because if Snoke would know who her parents are...he could dump Kylo and take Rey.

I think Kylo is one who knows who Rey true parents were, its also a bond that connects the 2 becase he spared her life long ago.

This is also Ben's saving grace.
