Is Ben Redeemable?

He is redeemable. How he will be, that is another question.
The fact that the narrative showed that Luke is the one who is responsible for the birth of Kylo Ren not only leaves the door open for it but it practically pushes it through. Because if people will forgive Luke Skywalker, an adult and uncorruptable wise Master Jedi for his sins then they must forgive a scared kid who was betrayed by his parrents and his mentor. Or be proven hypocrites. It is a check mate move played by the writers.
So, brace yourselves the redemption is comming.

But what will happen afterwards remains clouded.

I don't think he has to die. I mean, when we compare him to Vader. What Ben has done is nothing compared to Vader. Vader slaughtered directly or indirectly a good chunk of the galaxy and almost purged the Jedi Order. Plus, having Ben die seems to Return 2.0. Also, if Lucasfilm wants 10, 11 and 12 in the future their gonna need a Skywalker. I found it interesting that the press release made it clear about that, "The Skywalker Saga."

 

I do think he is redeemable.
But I voted "clouded the future is" cause im not sure how this could work...
I would like to see him as the big villain cause I actually agreed with him about letting old things die.. I wouldn't mind him killing the whole Resistance cause I actually believe more in him... I sense that his complexity could lead him into being a wise ruler... But for this he has to heal himself.
I would like to give him a chance on ruling the galaxy, I sense he can get rid of all corruption since he has always been honest. A little twisted but still very honest... And I really appreciate that.
I wanted Rey to join him cause she could help him into having more empathy and help him to control his emotions... As someone said, the moment he proposes he completely forgot about Luke. I'm sure he could've let him in his exile and start again with Rey...
TFA's novelization talks about Kylo not wanting the Star Killer to be shot at the Republic... Cause the task was just killing Luke since he was expected to bring a new Jedi order therefore a match to the FO, and he truly believed he could get the map from Rey.. So Kylo doesn't really leans towards mass murder... Which is good right? That starts to make differences between Snoke, Hux and him..
He was only following orders but now he hasn't to. I wouldn't see the need of a redemption/turning to light yet for him, if it wasn't for the Resistance.
I hope he survives Ep IX and beyond with good health, and as good character. Dark and though but not as a menace to the galaxy...

 

Remember when he had Leia's ship in the cross-hairs and couldn't pull the trigger?

I wonder if he lies or is under a delusion when he recalls such tests.
Could go either way - he does tick a lot of BPD boxes.

 

He better start on that road to redemption fast if that the road he wants to take .....the slightly veined look he has on Crait hints that dark side degradation has already started.

 

I'm not seeing any degradation. A whole lotta regret, maybe.

 

he's referring to Han there and he's lying. and i'm sure he knows he's lying.
he did hesitate all over the place and begged his father to help him.
he's just humiliated because the fishy-eyed toilet monster is dressing him down for all the rest of his failures. : o p

 

I hope he's not redeemable... I want him to go out as the ultimate villain, reining terror on the galaxy.

 

I hope he is redeemed at the end. Let not the result of Lea's and Han's love be one of the worst things that happend to the GFFA.
At the end he regrets, does something heroic, almost dies, but only loses a hand(he's a Skywalker after all) and sneaks off to Bespin to Lando and starts working as a bartender.
Years later when the Galaxy is in danger again, because we need a new trilogy, Rey will find him and together they fight against the new threat.

 

The regret is definitely there in that particular moment/shot (and hopefully it foreshadows redemption) but the early signs of dark side degradation do show during the Crait sequence in other shots.

 

Oh I know - just making light of his skewed view.

Maybe.
I only really entertain this possibility because the guy's track record for honesty is so solid.
But perhaps in his eyes he did take advantage when the moment came...the moment he felt strong enough that is.

i think of it as the way teenagers lie: this is the version of events he has made up in his head.
in his quiet time, though, i still think he knows the truth; he's just really expert at justifying his behavior. : o p

The Crait scene was longer than a gif and a pic. I believe some people on the Collider (Jedi Council) mentioned the dark side degradation on Kylo's face last week so I'm not the only one who saw it.

Hopefully redemption will be actual good deeds rather than just fancy lightsaber twirling and a sad face.

 

I know about lots of things that the Collider folks have seen that I have never seen and never could. I do not see the ST through fanboy eyes.

Yes, generally that's what redemption encompasses, although I would never scorn fancy lightsaber twirling and sad faces accompanying it.
