Maybe both. Leia one and only use of her massive force ability might be absorbing and turning lightening attack back on Kylo to save "them", someone Rey, Luke. Of course for this to happen Luke might be severely injured while killing Snoke.

I think you're reading into that too much my friend. The Starkiller base becoming a Sun represents hope for the good guys in general and a triumph of light over darkness as well(it coincides nicely with Rey's Light Side victory over Dark Sider Kylo Ren too). Now if we saw some sort of glimmer of good in Kylo to go along with that scene I would believe you, but we see no such thing after he commits patricide. In contrast the scene of the darkness swallowing up the light lines up perfectly with Kylo's full turn to the Dark Side.

Does that fully rule out Kylo having some sort of redemption down the line? I think not, it's still possible, but there is no connection with Kylo and the base becoming a Sun.

    i don't think it's that much of a leap.
killing his father didn't give him the power or confidence he was thinking it would. he's a mess at the end of the movie. it's not yet remorse, but it is confusion which he didn't have before. and disillusion seems like a fair enough first step toward recognizing the wrongness of what he's embroiled himself in.
to look at the destruction of Starkiller as restoring something good out of something evil, that's not really much of a stretch metaphorically.
that said, it's certainly open to a variety of interpretations.

    My chilly what-if.

What if Rey is Anakin's sister?

Some time after Anakin's departure from Tatooine, but during the ten years between TPM & AOTC, Shmi was impregnated again by the force. That pregnancy gave birth to Rey.

Rey's existence became known to Palpatine. At a very young age, Rey was kidnapped by Palpatine AND frozen in carbonite! And left frozen for 30+ years (far fetched I know, but maybe the force sustained her while encased). Her "carbonite-tomb" was hidden on Jakku and became a prized possession of the acolytes/KOR. This is also the reason why Palpatine/the Empire had an interest on Jakku.

Eventually she gets released the ten or so years before TFA. Not sure who would have handed her over to Plutt though...just a thought.

Shmi died 20 years at least before Rey's birth.

I think we can rest easy. The story group will likely avoid these kind of "make the universe smaller" type of ideas.

Haa! Yes, very true. Just trying to consider non-Luke as father options.

If Luke isn't the father it could be anyone else in the galaxy.

    even Akbar??

jokes aside, i feel like with all the discussion on who Rey is, we may be putting too much emphasis on her part of the story. as has been said, this is a story about the Skywalker family; if anything Kylo Ren/Ben will be driving the story forward, not necessarily Rey. obviously she's a huge part of the saga going forwards, but i still feel like Ben is going to steal the show, so to speak. whatever her back story may be, i feel like it'll be as important as Finn's in that it's part of the story but not the ultimate reveal or clincher like Luke/Vader.

Is there a rule where the Skywalker are supposed to be good ?

my guess is that the Skywalker of this story is Ben Solo and he's gonna be the bad guy all along.

You forget the bad guy and the good guy in the original were Skywalkers.

Rey is going to have to deal with her Darkside before this is over.

Skywalker pays the bills. This has always been about the Skywalkers in the greater context of Star Wars.

They won't ever let that die. Ever. It is worth billions alive. Rey is worth more to Disney as Rey Skywalker even if you don't like it.

Always been at least 2 Skywalkers, Schmi, Anakin, Luke, Leia. Kylo... Even as Schmi was dying Luke and Leia were being conceived.

Just the word "Skywalker" is like sayng "Superman", "Batman". Moooore pweeaze.

It's not a 'I like it' point. It's a this story wont last past ep IX with Rey being tagged.

Opening the universe is easier to write stories.

Don't live in Lucas world, think outside the box.

I think TFA was the start for Kylo and Rey in their journey. One to the light, the other to the dark and it won't change until they reach their potential.

Should be obvious to you that the Star Wars "Stories" are carrying your burden.

Any sequel to "ANH" will involve Skywalkers and it should.

How many saga sequels do you think they an make with Skywalkers before the stories start feeling stale?

While this is a reply to @Xeven, I'm curious what others think as well.

I think if your open minded then it won't get stale before Star Wars as a whole does. I fail to see how characters being related can make something stale. As long as the characters themselves are unique and interesting, then why does it matter if they are members of the same family? Star Wars is a Space Soap Opera and one thing Soap Operas tend to do is follow multiple generations of a family or a couple of families.
