which makes me think we will get Darth Vader's voice in the Rogue One trailer. Perhaps, only seeing Vader in a Hologram video talking with a General of the Empire or something in the actual film

but in the trailer we may hear -

"Find those Rebels, don't fail me"
or something like that to get the people wanting to see it like they did here.

    as he said in ANH-

"There will be no one to stop us this time."

I don't think Luke is Reys Father. After everything he went through I don't think that starting a family would have been top of his list.

For someone who claimed so proudly in front of Palpatine "You've failed your highness I am a Jedi like my Father before me" I think he will have stuck to Jedi traditions and not had a relationship. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought the Jedi were encouraged not to form relationships and attachments? Surely this would have been something he would have learned through Yoda or Obi-Wan?

Also after Yoda told Luke "the last of the Jedi will you be" I think he will have taken it upon himself to restart the Jedi order and fully committed himself to that.

Of course I could be completely wrong but I think his priorities will be to continue the work of his mentors Obi-Wan and Yoda. Luke strikes me as the type of character that would take his responsibilities seriously.

(Goodness knows what reaction my next paragraph will get)

I know it will be HIGHLY unlikely, but as a gay Star Wars fan, I couldn't help get a little excited about the rumours Luke could be gay ;)

I like it. Well, most of it. I don't think Ben is actually Luke's son, there's nothing in TFA that pointed me towards that conclusion, but I do think Luke would have served as a father figure during Ben's time at Luke's Academy. With that in mind I can see strong parallels with Sir Kay. Especially since Ben would be a "foster brother" to Rey, assuming she was at the Academy with him.

I agree 100%. I'm not for celibacy and stuff like that in the real world but it just makes sense to me that this is Luke's path. It's the sacrifice he has to make. As Yoda did. As Kenobi did. And as thousands of Jedi who came (or rather didn't :p) before him.

Did they? What if the Knights of Ren were heroes at one point, then became villainous after Kylo took leadership?

I recently theorised that the KOR are simply followers of the chosen one and were neither good nor evil. But with Kylo as their master they follow his perceived destiny.

I respectfully disagree. I think she is without a doubt his child, and that while Yoda and Obi-Wan did teach Luke to not form too strong of an attachment, they left out the old "don't be afraid to lose those you love" because they saw what that did to Anakin, who was already too attached to Padme. They knew Luke was older and too attached, so they took their focus back one step and instead taught him what sort of pitfalls arise when you get too close to the Dark Side.

Luke wasn't a traditional Jedi student; some rules had to be bent for the teachings to carry on. They let Luke keep his attachment to his friends but taught him that the Dark Side users aren't above using them to get at him. I think Luke took this lesson to heart at the end of ROTJ but lost sight of it over time when he met Rey's mother.

Or maybe he was sitting in the remnant of an ancient Jedi library somewhere and saw that rule after Rey was born and was just like "oh... oops. Oh well... next time maybe."

As for Luke's orientation, he was openly competitive with Han in ANH for Leia's attention, and seemed pretty proud of that kiss he got from her later on. Not that it's that relevant to the character who he spends his time with, mind you.

i'm not sure i understand why this would be bad marketing. Luke is a Skywalker, he's talking about Skywalkers. Ben is a Skywalker.
i don't think there's a plan to downplay the Skywalker line ~ it doesn't necessarily have to mean that Rey is a Skywalker by birth.

i just got back from watching the movie for the 187th time and it struck me that Han refers to the boy who destroyed it all as "an apprentice".
maybe this suggests that Luke did actually have a close relationship with Ben ~ not sure if all of Luke's students would have been referred to as apprentices.

not sure what that has to do with the price of rice, but it struck me when you said he would have been a father figure.
which is what i think he'll become to Rey as well.

Err... well... The part about Ben being Luke's son was shoehorned in so that my post would be taken seriously lol. If the parallels I made are accurate, it would indicate something about Rey's parentage... But you didn't hear it from me *zips mouth*

It says Kylo Ren killed the Jedi students on Kylo Ren's StarWars.com bio, in Pablo Hidalgo's TFA Visual Dictionary, as well as him explaining that Han and Leia split when

As for this whole clan / KoR / hero business and change, Pablo said that (force vision) was such a post-production scene that kept changing (as did Kasdan note that the force vision kept changing as well in another interview).

That guy could have originally been cast a Knight of Ren, and then they changed it to be something else or Rian Johnson now has something different in mind. I don't know why it varies from script to screen to retelling to retelling.

Forgive me. I feel it again. The pull to the light. The pro-Rey Skywalker team senses it. Show me again, the power of the darkness, and I will let nothing stand in our way. Show me, @FN-3263827 , and I will finish what you started....

Deep breath, ok I might have a thought here that is actually pro-Luke being the daddy. It kind of fits in. Prove me wrong - please!

I was formulating a response to the discussion about that flashback sequence and the person Ren cuts down. To cut a long story short I have been wondering whether the KoR are in fact protectors of "The Chosen One" or "Skywalker Bloodline" - as is (wrongfully) said of the Knights of the Templar (protectors of Jesus' bloodline). Ren has many real world meanings but the one that catches the eye is the idea of it meaning "altruism" and more clearly defined as the protective care of a parent. Rey can be translated to King and so I believe it possible that the Ren "protectors" are seeking to guard Rey "the King". It is also said of Kylo that he believes that the Skywalker bloodline puts him above others - or something to that effect, in the VD.

Now, what if Kylo is pulled to the Dark Side and has visions and ends up believing that only through being like Vader can he protect his families bloodline? And what if, and this is the heart of it, Rey really is Luke's daughter and Kylo is actually seeking to protect her?

My thoughts are the KoR were an organisation that existed before Ben joined them and their purpose was to protect the Skywalker bloodline. The Vader dynasty. Luke has a (secret) daughter and realises that she is in danger from this cult (or simply just because of who she is) and sends her away with her mother to Jakku. Maybe Luke visits her on Jakku when he can. He's an absent father. Maybe this is why Lor San Tekka settles on Jakku and finds the map there? It's Luke's actual, albeit secret, home...

This is why Kylo Ren is desperate to find Luke. And it's why he is at odds with Snoke. He wants to find Luke so he can find out where Rey is. But what ends up happening is that he finds Rey without at first knowing it. He believed Luke took Rey to Ahch-To but this was Luke laying a false trail. Unfortunately, what happens is Rey's mum is tracked or discovered and she leaves Rey alone on Jakku (to keep her hidden and safe) and goes to get Luke. But she never gets to Luke and goes missing. Rey is taken by Unkar Plutt who tells her that Luke Skywalker is a myth (so if or when Luke came looking he doesn't find Rey and it confirms in his mind that she left with her mum somewhere). Then Rey's mum falls in with this clan - the lightsaber ties in with this somewhere - and eventually the KoR catch up with them. This is the scene in the flashback and the person who Rey takes the place of is in fact her mother. This is why Kylo seemingly cuts down the warrior who is now said to be a KoR. He needs to protect Rey's mother so he can try and find out where Rey is. Whether her mother is still alive, we do not know....

    I feel dirty.

Because Ben believed he needed to turn to the Dark Side to become "as powerful as Darth Vader". He wanted to learn the Dark Side from Snoke and so this is why he does his bidding. This was his first step in turning to the Dark Side. It aligned him with Snoke. The KoR exist to protect the Skywalker bloodline but also Vader's "destiny". This is why they go against Luke. He has an untouchable soul. Incorruptible. Kylo believes that the Dark Side is the right path, that he must follow that path to achieve Vader's destiny. And this involves taking Luke's progeny down that path with him. With or without Luke. (I also find it interesting that Kylo avoids speaking of Leia - it's like he might wish that both his mother and Uncle would join him on the Dark Side so his family can rule together...).

I'm not married to the idea by any means. But for me it could answer why Kylo seems hell bent on going against Snoke and finding Luke. He might have known about his secret child and as he understands the importance of the Skywalker bloodline, he wants that child/person with him - on his side - so they can rule the galaxy as a family, as Vader once desired.

I see your angle here....it is interesting. Circumvent Luke and continue the family destiny with the bloodline intact...push Luke out like the "Bad relative" that doesn't get invited to the family reunions.....interesting indeed.

While this scenario is possible, I think it is too complex as are many of the fan theories. The story behind who Rey's parents are or aren't is going to end up more simple than this. Any theory about who the Knights of Ren are is tough to debate because we know absolutely nothing about them except Kylo is their leader.

Last Summer there was a book titled Aftermath that takes place after Return of the Jedi. In that book there was a trio introduced that called themselves the Acolytes of the Beyond.
    What do they believe:

The Acolytes of the Beyond were a group of dark side fanatics who existed during the Galactic Civil War. After the death of Darth Vader during the Battle of Endor, the Acolytes of the Beyond purchased what they believed was the fallen Dark Lord of the Sith's lightsaber, intending to return it to him in death.

This could be a throw away reference. Or maybe the Acolytes of the Beyond eventually became the Knights of Ren. Certainly the Acolytes of the Beyond would take a significant interest in Vader's family.

Exactly. I believe Tashu in Aftermath essentially says that "Luke had an untouchable spirit" and they must seek the Dark Side somewhere else.
If Luke is the father of Rey, and it is still a massive "if" for me, then this answers a few questions. However, I still find it hard to believe that Luke would've had a family and been the kind of guy who wouldn't have been active in his child's life. However, like I say, this theory answers:
1- Why Luke left Rey and his wife on Jakku.
2- Why Rey was eventually left on her own.
3- Why Kylo Ren has his own agenda to get to Luke contrary to Snoke's.
4- Why Luke never went back for Rey (and Mrs Skywalker).
5- Why Kylo cuts down the warrior from behind in the flashback and why Rey sees it from her PoV.
6- Why Lor San Tekka ends up on Jakku and finds the map (to Ahch-To/Luke there).
7- Why Rey believes Luke Skywalker is a myth.
8- A possible reason for why The Clan had Anakin's saber which then fell into the hands of the KoR.
9- Why Luke was seemingly away when his students were cut down.
10- Why Kylo Ren potentially realises who Rey really is during their battle (and never before that).

For me, the whole - Luke's map/Anakin's saber/Lor San Tekka on Jakku with all those things and Rey/Rey's origins/Flashback sequence - had to tie together in some way. This is the cleanest way of doing that in my mind so far with the info we have. And I know Pablo implied that the Jedi slaughter thing happened 6-7 years before TFA, but I still think it happened 14-15 years before and coincided with Rey being left on Jakku. I think that Twitter discussion was somewhat polluted by the massacre scene as seen in the flashback. But we will see, perhaps once Bloodline is released.
    --- Double Post Merged, Mar 23, 2016, Original Post Date: Mar 23, 2016 ---
I've been saying this for a while now. The AotB also say to the man they get the saber from that they are "not violent yet" - implying that they may one day become violent. My opinion is that the AotB were Vader obsessives who were then discovered by Snoke and then became the KoR. I think this all ties in with "The Chosen One"/Messiah idea and the AotB being a religious order that either wishes for his resurrection. This then ties in with why they would be so interested, as you say, by Vader's true bloodline and perhaps view his progeny as The Chosen One resurrected. One could then look to Snoke and see all the more reason for him to turn out to be a certain former Sith who has awoken from his slumber...:p
    --- Double Post Merged, Mar 23, 2016 ---
I don't see why. I mean, it has to be explained somehow anyway - why Rey was left on Jakku. What the KoR's mission is. What Kylo really wants. Why Luke was on Ahch-To. This way, the answers all come together and interlink.

My hope is that Rey's parents are new characters, from the Empire and that there is some bit of info out there that explains why Rey/Luke's map/Lor San Tekka were all on Jakku. I think that would be more interesting and fit Luke's character better. But, this theory, I have to say, by simply making Luke the father of Rey, does work and answers many of the questions I have been struggling with.

    oh @master_shaitan don't drink the kool-aid!

how does Kylo Ren know Luke has a secret daughter?
why didn't Luke take her with him to Ach-To?

i wrote a big long gory post about why this theory is probably too complicated, but really that's the actual answer: like @Jedi MD says, it's just too complicated.

and to the quick: Kylo Ren thinks he's the chosen one.
oh sure, he has his boatload of doubts and insecurities, but where is the evidence to the contrary?

and though i don't typically engage in the "names have deep and abiding meanings" game, altruism and protection of a parent could be just that: a reference to his specific underlying Light side and maybe, ultimately, his destiny to come back and shield Leia. whether it has deeper meaning to the group, i dunno. my impression based on the fact that everyone calls him Ren (and not Kylo), is just to ease the transition from Ren back to to Ben. literally. hahaha.

ultimately this. if you can break down the explanation into five lines or less (preferably less!), then it could fly.
but anything more strenuous than that is too much, and i feel like this theory has too much (secret child, missing wife, AoB, KOR, chosen one, etc.).
it doesn't address the underlying questions of why Jakku and why just vanish? Ren knows Rey is out there, but Luke doesn't? ehhh....

I'm drinking it and it tastes goooood!

He found out from Luke's wife who he captured during the Clan Massacre. Or He just found out Luke's secret himself due to their close relationship prior to his betrayal.

Because he had already taken Rey and his wife to Jakku - prior to the Jedi slaughter. Then when that happens, his wife disappears and he thinks Rey did too. He goes to Ahch-To maybe as a planned meeting place with his wife OR simply for this other reason that we are yet to identify (knowledge or whatever).

It's all gonna be complicated anyway. Lot's of questions to answer. This at least ties everything together.

Does he though? Or does he think the Skywalker bloodline is the "chosen one", if you get my meaning.

    Ben Ren. Cracks me up.
