Even if you don't think Rey is related to Anakin it still wouldn't be surprising if it turns out she is related.

We've beaten this horse to death and the movie is almost here. Thankfully! There simply isn't compelling evidence in The Force Awakens. They can go in any direction they wish if it's a good story. To suggest that it won't "flow well" is simply how you want things to go. That is fine, but let's no act like there's solid evidence.

In The Force Awakens, Rey meets Han Solo, Leia, Kylo, and Luke Skywalker and no one says a thing about her being their daughter or sister and Daisy Ridely thought the answer was obvious. Hmm

Make of it as you will.

I really do expect this trilogy to explore and expand the existing dimensions and boundaries of the Force and Force users. If Rey is Luke's daughter I just don't see as much happening with that though I readily admit the two ideas aren't mutually exclusive. The only problem is that it would reinforce what I thought many people were looking to go beyond which was there being one chosen blood line. If they could successfully do both, I honestly would not mind as the blood line would have many built in answers for things that we have seen. But I think we could tackle it wtihout the bloodline question just as well. The compromise that I offered not long ago was that what if she was a Skywalker but not Luke's daughter? Who's to say Shmi had no siblings?

I'm afraid they will not make her his daughter thus I'll be terribly dissappointed.

That's the only reason to be involved in Star Wars?
You introduce Reylo you will watch some fans walk away. Especially when they went out of their way to make a great bond between Rey and Finn. It doesn't matter what people say in the press. People know what they saw with their eyes. Hence the questions about Rey and Finn. They don't have to be romantic, but if you do Reylo then people will raise their eyebrows. A black man who is a good man and does the right thing in the face of death and danger does not measure up to a white man who will kill his own family? I don't think they want to send that message.

No matter what they do (and don't do,) there are going to be fans who will be disappointed (or even walk away.) Finn not being FS - disappointment. Lack of Lando - disappointment. Storpilot - disappointment. No Stormpilot - disappointment. Reylo - disappointment. No Reylo - disappointment. Rey Skywalker - disappointment. Rey Random - disappointment. Kylo redeemed - disappointment. Kylo not redeemed - disappointment. Snoke = Plagueis - disappointment. Snoke ≠ Plagueis - disappointment. There's no way everyone will be happy with what happens.

PS. As a reminder, I'm for Rey Random and against Reylo.

"She inherits the Millennium Falcon. She inherits the Skywalker saber"

If you think about it: if is a "random" and if "Reylo" happens Ben Solo-Skywalker could drive the Falcon with Rey and Rey could give him the Skywalker lightsaber...

I'm not sure this is settled. We see Chewie flying it in the trailer and it would make more sense if Chewie inherited the Falcon.

Only reason for random Rey would be enabling Reylo.
    Cheap reason-cheap solution,-cheap result.
Which is highly unlikely because people who sough the film are reporting TLJ is great film and Rey-Kylo relationship is mysterious and complex..

I hate reylo i think its vile and obnoxious. I hate what the fandom has done with Daisy's filmography. I have seen it all over tumblr taking her scenes and adding adam driver i to everything. Daisy gets signed on to Daddio and these fans are demanding on Instagram that the writer employ adam to be in the film with her. I have seen in the same places calling the storyline in motoe which Daisy plays Mary Debenham as disgusting. Why is that? Could it not have something to do with her love interest?

Also on the other side. Finn is lead, Rey is trash. Nobody really cares about the character. But oh my god she can't be with Kylo because it will erase Finn out the story and he is the most beloved and most important character ever.

So how do we solve this? Two ways which are no love interest at all or the character dies. As a daisy fan, the later is becoming increasingly appealing becuse I don't want another two years of this ridiculous toxicology.

All this arguing about love interests and who's the daddy has got to be the most deranged arguments i have ever read. But the weird thing is, people love it and they can't get enough of the arguing. I just don't get it!

Huh? The only reason? That's simply absurd. She doesn't have to have a relationship with Kylo if she's not related to Anakin.
Man, the hot takes are flying in this thread.

Perhaps one of the most significant revelations I found in the latest novel "legends of Luke Skywalker is this:

Aside from a glimpse of early galactic history, the biggest revelation in the book is a village founded by Force sensitive human refugees has maintained that sensitivity for thousands of years. While we’ve had several known related Force sensitives and references to the Force being passed down family lines.

This is the first time we’ve seen direct evidence of it being maintained in population over an extended period of time. From this we can infer children born to Force sensitive parents have a high chance of being sensitive themselves.

That by the stright logic makes random Rey less probable, since new canon obviously inclines to ancestry born Force sensitivity.

Yes, but this was the entire point - why was she written this way? It's completely redundant and a waste of time to write her SO SIMILAR to the Skywalker characters in - background, setting, character starting point, abilities, mannerisms, etc...combined with clothing, vehicles, music themes, etc...for her then to just be revealed as random. What is the POINT of her being written that way?

Yes, I've been with you (and Bandini and Daily Plunge, and Magnar on the other end of the debate) in those threads for the last 2 years. Lots of good discussions...but...it all seems to end the same. You even jokingly referred to it - Rey has to be Random and with Kylo because it will be boring if she's not. That's not really a convincing argument to me...further, it goes against what we've been shown on screen. And in the ways the art dept., costume dept., music score dept., etc....set her up. How THEY PORTRAYED her to us.

I'm not talking about what I want...though I've been fairly open about it. I'm talking about the things that were shown to us. The way the character was developed throughout the course of the last film, The Force Awakens.

I still feel the burden of proof is on the Randomers/ReyLo's - because they are arguing against the grain.

True. She has become a popular character.

J.J. Abrams didn't tell us that her family reveal was supposed to happen in TFA but got bumped to TLJ to make her "aesthetically pleasing"...he said it because it's a fact - she is somebodies family and it was nearly shown in VII but they decided to push it to VIII and amp up the intensity...

It MAY all end up being to hype Random and ReyLo and if so - that's whack. IMO. (and I don't believe that is what they would do/have done)

Because then it ends up that it's a big build up for nothing.

Obviously I can't speak for @master_shaitan, but I wish you'd quit lumping Rey Random with ReyLo. They're completely different topics. A plurality of the people who have kept up with this closely over the past two years are leaning towards Rey Random. ReyLo is still a fringe theory. I don't think romance is going to be a part of this trilogy for Rey.

Kylo may have feelings for Rey of some kind that could lead to a change in his character arc, but that's far from a romance.

Either way, there's no burden of proof here. TFA is vague and we won't know more until TLJ. This isn't a court of law, it's people speculating about a movie.

I agree 100%. There seems to be a big push recently here in the Cantina of trying to make Rey Random = ReyLo and thery are definitely two separate topics. I also think that romance is not going to be in the cards for Rey. I think that Rey and Kylo may very well have a connection through the Force but that is different then the romantic angle some are hoping for.

I respect these positions. Separating random from romance. It’s why I made short work of ReyLo in the OP. That’s just bad fan-fic, Twilight emo garbage.

And to be clear, in the opening, I said it very well still could be Random. (And even ReyLo, though I vomit.) I don’t know anything for sure, same as you guys.

It just seems like a really BIG build-up of similarities, themes, appearance, story arc, etc...that they’ve then had to defend, deflect, delete social media posts about, etc....when all that could be avoided by announcing her as Random from the start.

And if that’s the case, my question is -WHY?

Why would you NOT just start her story off this way? Instead they go to all this trouble, set all this up, and then have the pay-off be “eh, she’s a gifted pilot from a desert planet who’s young and strong in the Force, who gets Han’s ship and Luke’s sword and can stand equal with Darth Vader’s grandson....that we literally made to dress like and appears physically related to, but is not a part of, the OT legacy characters family. Sorry for leading you on!”

Just seems like a big waste of TFA.

(If it were the case. I do not believe it be, personally.)

    "Burden of Proof"

Mate, this isn't something that needs to be proven. We literally just have to wait 20 days to see where this is going. We don't have to prove something through words or evidence that could just as well be proven by waiting. Because all we have, both ReySkywalkers and ReyRandoms, is speculation. And speculation is basically a blind dude trying to make tea with coffee beans.

    Jesus Christ.

The spleen venting on this post is too damn high.

Why does Rey not being Skywalker/ Solo immediately mean that ReyLo is going to happen? Those are two separate theories that may or may not intersect. Some people want Rey to be a "nobody who becomes a somebody" because they think it makes for a better story. Some people want Rey to be Random because making her the child of one of the OT members would unnecessarily limit the scope of the SW universe. There are a boatload of reasons why people want Rey to be a Random. And others just don't think Rey Skywalker was going to happen in the first place anyway.

As for ReyLo- yikes. I'd like to remind people that it's quite honestly just a theory. About characters that inhabit a fictional world. So why so much hate?
You don't like it? That's perfectly fine. You're well within your rights to dislike, even hate it. But move on. It's what people do when they see something they dislike. Not rail and scorn the people who do like it. Talk about the stuff YOU like, add something positive to the fandom.

The fact is that Rey and Kylo share a connection- one that may not be fraternal. That much is canon already. You can't deny it. While I don't think it will be romantic but I have no issues with it becoming romantic.
    --- Double Post Merged, Nov 25, 2017, Original Post Date: Nov 25, 2017 ---
See, that's YOUR interpretation of the material.

    Which is fine.

But a lot of people see those similarities as nothing more than visual call-backs. The same way TFA was visually and stylistically similar to ANH. It was used as a way to ease old fans and new fans into the franchise.

Besides, those things could just as well be explained away by Rey being strong in the Force. Something that isn't necessarily a genetic trait. I mean, Jedi were not allowed to procreate for the large part so even assuming that being FS is tied to who your parents are is a fallacy.

“But I think it’s beautiful that the relationships are formed with people that aren’t even necessarily – that wouldn’t be classified as family, but family is who you choose, I think. You can choose to love people and bring them into your home and make a life with a group of people who have no blood relation to you.”

    Daisy Ridley

Personally, I think making Rey a Skywalker or a Solo would be a waste of TFA. Beyond the surface level similarities, the theme of the movie was to look forward and not look back. It was about finding family in the people you meet along the way. It was about rising beyond your limitations- in both Finn and Rey. It was about how a "scavenger" could become someone powerful and important.

To reduce all of that down to who the character's parents were- I think would be a disservice to both the character and the parents.

Also, can't this thread be merged with the other Rey Skywalker threads?

It is incredibly strange that people could watch a character like kylo ren and decide that they want the female protagonist to make out with him. This is some real weird stuff.
