Jakku = Tatooine

False. I outlined why this analogy is not applicable. We know that all real life animal belong to earth. We don't know which animals belong to which planets in star wars.

This isn't my argument. I agree this would be a bad argument. I was rather asking what it would take to dissuade people. This isn't retorical. I'm actually curious what it would take to dissuade people. Different animals certainly doesn't support that Jakku is Tatooine, but it doesn't discount it either.

People are just pointing out that the planets seem to have nothing in common, other than being a desert.

*One sun- well hey maybe there are 2 and they didn't finish the special effects
*different animals- well, maybe those new animals are just a different part of tatooine
*director says it isn't tatooine- well, maybe the director is just a liar
* we see different architeture for the planet- maybe peoples styles just change
* tatooine was not relevant to the galactic conflict- well, now it is.

Anything can be hand-waved away.

For example, If i were pro Ice planet is hoth

*why does it have trees- hoth could have trees on a different part of the planet
* why would they have a large base on a planet that was only used because of how out of the way it was- maybe the empire finds it important now, besides the saga can only have 1 ice planet as this is thematically mandated by the story.

Now, the ice planet might turn out to be hoth. But until I see a wampa, shield generators, or some positive indicator that this is Hoth, I'm inclined to believe the one difference we've seen (trees) is enough to make them separate planets.

 

I would class Obi Wan as much a rebel as Princess leia I know she was technically over the planet not on it when she was carrying the death star plans in Artoo.

 

Maybe you are on to something, I hope Finn knew he was killing his clone brothers when he used that tie fighter, that scene in the trailer was awesome.

 

Yes, that has been the leading rumor for a while now, and the trailers seem to back it up. But my point was, if they were already on Jakku when Finn defects, then they don't go to Jakku because they are chasing Finn. They may stay there to hunt him down, but they would have needed a different reason to be there in the first place. That reason probably has to do with the lightsaber. What we don't yet know is what is so all-fire important about that lightsaber that two different parties would travel to this remote planet to claim it.

Firstly, of course that is not your argument, it was Cassidy's argument,whom I originally responded to. So my argument is in response to his insinuation that the inclusion of new animals and lack of banthas and dewbacks somehow indicates this may not be Tatooine, when it really doesn't tell us anything because this could simply be a different region of the planet, just like how Earth has different regions with different animals. My analogy does make sense in light of his statement.

The fact that we know Earth has a variety of animals proves my point: different animals does not necessarily mean different planet. This should not be so hard to get, but apparently you agree with me even though you don't understand my analogy, which, I shouldn't have to explain, contains a bit of sarcasm. Try harder, I believe in you...

And I already responded to your inquiry of what will make people give up the idea, so again, pay better attention next time. You really need to read the posts if you are going to respond to them.

Right below my post in rebuttal to your analogy you say "It is a good analogy, you just don't understand it,". I understand just fine and disagree. If you reply directly to me, why would I not assume you were responding to what I said?

I missed where you respond to what it would take to make people give up the idea. I know you say you don't personally agree with the Jakku=tatooine theory, but you give no argument as to why not.

You can reply or not, but how does it help anyone to just tell me to reread all your post? You even say a few post back "In fairness, I have not read the whole thread,", but then bash me for not doing the same.

The closest I can find from a few pages back is "Why not give it enough difference to make it apparent it is a different planet?".

There's a difference between not properly reading the handful posts you are directly responding to versus reading 20 some pages of a thread because someone disagrees with generalization you made.

I may have been a little condescending, but I didn't take any unfair shots at you. I mainly said you should pay attention, which you should.

You engaged me in conversation by telling me my analogy was bad which it wasn't, and you had no clue who I was responding to in the first place.

It helps to tell you to reread the posts because if you are going to discuss something you should understand what you are discussing, that simple.

And here is where I replied to your question of what it would take for people to believe Jakku is not Tatooine. It is literally the sentence after one that you referenced, and the very first response I made to you.

But any way, I willing to drop it and we can get back to the actual discussion.

I think it would be difficult to get strong evidence that a second sun won't be added in post, but I appreciate the reply. I feel like some on this thread would still find a way to say the second sun got blown up.

 

I said the same thing weeks ago. It could well be, I suppose....

Whoever responded to this post by rating it 'Disagree', you gave me a laugh -- but come on, @Darth Holmes has a point....

 

Now that in my opinion would be pretty extreme, but I also vaguely recall such a theory being mentioned. I'm no astronomer, but I have to imagine some pretty extreme consequences blowing up a sun would include, such as gravitational variances and climate change.

But yeah, other than JJ specifically saying Jakku is not Tatooine with no tricks, or an official map showing both planets separatly, I can't think of much else that would provide varification beyond a reasonable doubt, at least for me.

 

Just for the record, I counted all of the negative ratings given to the two sides of the arguement to reject any inaccuracies.

The Jakku is Jakku crowd got 17 negatives, I'd say at least five or six of those were sarcastic Fartkrum one liners.

The Jakku is or might be Tatooine crowd got 29 negatives.

I did not count the neutrals.

Of course not, but this is just a movie after all. I'm saying that we have yet to see ANY of these creatures in the trailers, leaked set pictures, or concept art.



















Etc etc... The list goes on. If we just got one tiny glimpse of one of these famous Tatooine creatures I'm sure it would change things quite a bit - but we haven't seen them anywhere yet.
