I feel like the obvious hasnt been pointed out...

For the planet Jakku they had specific ideas for landscapes and culture.... that would have otherwise required cataclysmic and devestating changes to Tatooine.

Rather than messing with a classic Star Wars plent and radically changing it... they just made a new one... its not that weird considering how Star Wars fans would react if they changed Tatooine.

Also... There are Moisture Vaporators on Lothal... is it also Tatooine then?

And there are Jawas on florum.... is it tatooine now?

Since I have seen the arguement that "boba fett is there" I have to ask... is Kamino Tatooine? is every planet Boba Fett visited tatooine?

As for the crashing Star Destroyer in the Battlefront trailer... that is a pre-rendered trailer, not made from ingame cinematics of visuals. In the video game industry these are pretty common, and they almost universally never show exact scenes from the game... I can think of a few Star Wars examples even.

The only way people may get confused (the general movie going public that is) will be if they never name the planet Jakku during the movie. If they see a planet that looks like Tatooine without being given a name they are likely going to assume it is Tatooine because that is what they now from the other films. However, all it will take is a simple line by one of the characters saying the name of the planet and there should be no confusion. Poe radios back. I'm in Jakku and I have the saber. Or Rey while helping up Finn says welcome to Jakku and everyone will no it's not Tatooine.

I used to be convinced that the desert planet we saw in the first teaser was Tattooine without a doubt. I thought it wouldn't make sense to take such an iconic planet in the SW universe and not only leave it out of the film, but replace it with a nearly identical desert planet. But the more I learned of the planet, and the more concept art I saw of it, it made more sense.

Especially these two images. It really adds to the desolate feel of the planet, but it's still somewhat familiar.

That's exactly what I was thinking. That's one of the reasons I posted that one piece of concept art. I guess it goes to prove that some of the concept art we've seen can be closer to stuff we will actually see in the film then we may think.

It's been talked about at length....about both the SD that apparently Rey rides past in the opening, AND the SSD that the MF is seen being chased into.....what about them?

And is it just me, but does the large object that someone is riding resemble the early pig-like practical set that was revealed awhile ago??

wait is that an Interdictor class star destroyer intehconcept... thats weird...

I am glad they went with the classic Star Destoryer but I wonder what wasgoing through the concept artists mind.

If a crashed interdictor is seen then... that would be something from the EU that made it into TFA then wouldnt it?

doubt they will put in an Interdictor though... but there are 2 crashed Star Destroyers... so I guess a third is not out of the question...

That isn´t even EU stuff they were invented for the game TIE FIGHTER 1994.

This game inspired the maker of that vid here.

So I watched the OT with my girlfriend (her first viewing) and after Jedi we watched the 2nd teaser trailer. Direct quote:

"Hey that's the planet that Luke's from!"

Which is... part of the EU... You know the expanded universe included virtually EVERY ancillary work unless otherwise specifically labeled.

Couldn't agree more. Perfect example of proving correlation doesn't imply causation.

I havent seen it brought up, but more importantly nobody seems to have brought up the fact that the destroyer in the concept art is an Interdictor...

That's because it was a placeholder model from Empire At War.

Ummmmmm.... no because that is an Interdictor Star Destroyer... the Interdictor Cruisers in Empire at war look almost entirely different save for the four bubbles.

It is an interdictor Star Destroyer, which you can tell not just by the gravity well generator bubbles, but by some parts of the bridge... and it was clearly just photoshopped and re-angled slightly from this picture... (you can even see some of the shadows are the same)

And while the Star Destroyer in the film is a classic imperial-class its angle crashed is directly lifted from that concept art... which is only crashed at that angle because the concept artist cropped this destroyer out (probably because it was easy to magic wand out the background with this particular star destroyer image)

Alright, so I might have gotten the specific detail about where it came from wrong - but the point is that it was an existing model that was simply used as a placeholder.

So maybe someone else noted that in october of last year, but I found it to be a great catch. I didn't notice it.
