Guys, just trying 2 b serious about this. Rather if u ♡ or hate TLJ, Disney, you know the guys who put up the bulk of the $$ to make theses films, should really give a second thought about using RJ again.

Is RJ really the problem though?

Don't get me wrong, I didn't like the movie, but many of the issues were continuity related with TFA. So JJ and RJ may not be the bulk of the problem but having them switch with blank slates every movie creates issues. I also read somewhere that KK had some input and forced some content in TLJ on RJ. If that's true than maybe the issue is KK needs to step back and let her people do their job, or at least not be so forceful.

I think they should have planned the main story archs for the whole trilogy from the beginning. You can give the writers some freedom but make them align with the planned plot line.

I'm really hoping it does well in China, really hoping! Please rake in another $200 or $300 million and we will be good. :)

Lucasfilm need to hire a “showrunner” like in tv to run their creative for them. They need one person with an overriding vision for the entire series.

That’s a no brainer for an epic trilogy, really kinda surprised to find out that wasn’t the case, and disappointed, even though I loved both films.

I look st it this way, look at the death of Luke and how it was done. Now, this isn't about whether you like or don't like how Luke was handled. This is about that single 15-20 second scene where Luke dies and becomes one with the Force. I, a rabid fan of Star Wars, knew what happened. My wife, who has seen all the movies but is a fan in a very loose and general sense, leaned over to me and asked me what just happened. My 10 year old daughter, a fan of Star Wars, not as much as me but more than her mother, as we were walking out asked, "Did Luke Skywalker just die?". If you need a scenevin a movie telling the audience that what you just saw was a character dying, you did their death scene wrong. Luke's death should have spoken for itself. We know Obi Wan dies and becomes one with the Force because he gets a lightsaber cut across him and he disappears. We know Yoda dies and becomes one with the Force because we see his last moments as a weak and frail being, that closes his eyes, stops breathing and disappears. The audience never sees Luke actually die, we get this artsy fartsy scene, that while beautiful, confuses a lot of the audience. We needed to see Luke Skywalker close his eyes and sort of slump before cutting to the from behind scene of him becoming one with the Force. That's just one of many creative decisions made in TLJ that can be put at the feet of RJ.

    What if that's intentional.

The PT mentions dark jedi's having power to bring people back to life. What if this is a light side version of that power? I'm not saying I'm a fan of that idea, but honestly, I feel this trilogy can go anywhere. Maybe Luke joins the force, and as someone else mentioned somewhere else, pulls a Gandalf and comes back, different but the same.

So we can get a second death of Luke somewhere down the line. The fact that this trilogy isn't meshed out before hand means things can go anywhere from a creative aspect. They've already played loose with the perceived rules of the GFFA, and adding force powers seems to be a way to keep some fans interested. All I'm saying is that we're assuming Luke is dead, we're made to believe he's dead, but this trilogy so far thrives on misdirection.

I think a cool question or topic would be, for those who like the trilogy so far, what would take it too far that you'd lose your ability to suspend your disbelief?

The problem with that, is that there is no longer a trilogy ahead, there is one movie left. That's ultimately the problem with a lot of these very deep and in-depth fan theories. There's just not enough time for them to play out in the space of a 2/2.5 hour movie. Seeing how there's only 1 movie left, I feel there's just not enough time for something like that to play out when the movie has to deal with Rey and Kylo.

With that said. When Lucas was writing ROTJ, in the early drafts he had scenes where Obi Wan was able to regain a physical form and helped Luke in his confrontation with Vader. But, it was also clear that Ibi Wan was still dead and this was a temporary thing. Luke pulling a Gandalf and coming back as a higher ranking Jedi? I dunno, I doubt it, I just don't think they've planned these movies out that far enough in advance for Luke's death scene to be done that way on purpose to setup something in episode 9

It doesn't have to pay off in the next movie, but it could be alluded to.

    Here's what I mean.

This final episode of this trilogy will focus on Rey and Kylo... it kind of has to. That said, on their journey to their final confrontation, Luke can confirm that he's not gone. Now if the trilogy finishes with somewhere around 4-5 billion, will Disney really wait 10-20 years to make another trilogy?

I think not... I think max we'll get another one 5 years or so after this trilogy ends. The cow's primed and ready, milk her now.

So the next trilogy could kick off with Luke coming back and "shocking" everyone, as he's back to guide our new heroes against this new big baddie.

Not saying this is going to happen, but at this point they have a clean slate to work with and have a window of opportunity to squeeze as much profit out of this idea as they can.

Film will earn just enough for Disney not to lose interest in profit from StarWars, but by the will od the Force I hope also just not enough to fuel Disney's justification of to liberal approach in the future.

It’s going to make a fortune. It will have zero impact on the direction of the saga. You’re all making a big fuss over nothing.

It was just the same with Empire. Made less than ANH (and TPM). It’s how it goes when a story changes direction. For the new fans it was probably a surprise. For the older fans it divided them as some wanted new and some wanted a rehash.

In time everyone will realise that this film is very special, as they did with Empire, and it will be the saviour of Star Wars. If we were given another TFA, Star Wars would’ve faded into obscurity.
