The reddit theory is perfect on every level. It makes complete sense and doesn't leave anything that is already cannon to question. It also makes sense that Snoke is a species we have never seen before. Half Muun, and half human... That would account for his proportions and bone structure. Perhaps he was a force-genetic creation that used Plagueis as well as Palpatine's DNA. Then infused with the force to give it life and soul.

 

If Snoke isn't Plagueis...

Then for me he is someone who hasn't been a villain for a very long time. I think people expect him to be some ancient evil power when really he is someone who has recently been corrupted by the evil of the Dark Side. That explains why we haven't ever seen him before. That explains why he passively watched the rise of the Empire. And his change will likely have something to do with his injuries.

I think Snoke is someone who wants to empower the Dark Side, not because he necessarily wanted to rule the galaxy, but because he needed it to be strong enough to survive - to live off of. He made a pact with the devil and in order to fulfil his end of the bargain, he cannot allow the Jedi to return.

So how could Snoke connect to the larger story (as Plagueis would have)? He doesn't have to of course but I for one have no interest if he doesn't so I must therefore seek an answer that does provide a bridge between the trilogies. It also has to be easily explainable so we're not bogged down with complicated exposition. We know Snoke observed the rise and fall of the Empire and so wasn't completely out of touch with galactic events. This is one big reason why he can't have been a villain during this time as he wouldn't have been content with sitting by and watching another rule the galaxy. That's what the Dark Side does to you - it makes you crave power.

We also know that Snoke has an intimate knowledge of both the Skywalker's and what went down in the Death Star II Throne Room. There is a lot there he could've learned from Kylo, nevertheless, the connection is there. He is also known to be extremely knowledgeable about the Dark Side and is a powerful figure of the Dark Side of the Force. So no more nonsense about him being a user of both light and dark please - that doesn't make sense. It only makes sense to keep Ren between the two so he doesn't become more powerful than Snoke.

Another new and interesting element that has been brought into the canon is the Church of the Jedi. What is interesting to me is that someone like San Tekka would've had access to Jedi knowledge, witnessed the rise and fall of the Empire and be considered an ally to the Skywalker's - all things that in my view, Snoke would share. And can it possibly be a coincidence that Tekka retired to the planet where Palpatine buried something important at a significant Sith site and of course where Rey was abandoned? I think not.

I harken back to my pre-TFA days, and still wish Snoke was a powerful dark side user from beyond the known regions of the galaxy, i.e. the remnants of the empire encounter him when they retreat to the outer reaches to regroup and search for the "origin" of the dark side -- Snoke then takes over and reorganizes the military/political arm of the empire into the First Order, and the mystical order into the Knights of Ren, so they could challenge the Republic with a leaner and more nimble military/political force founded on mystical knowledge/practices that predate (and are more powerful than) the Sith.

 

Snoke is a computer simulation. On board a ship somwhere in the galaxy a computer programmer from the Empire writes a new program for a Supreme being after Palps died unexpectedly.

But it got out of control and began using power from Ben Solo after he was born then the computer programmer tried to execute the program. It killed it's creator. Now it runs the galaxy from a ship deep in space.

 

Snoke is a 25 foot tall dragon.

I am going down with that theory.

Luke inflicted the wound on Snokes head. Thats why he shits his pants so much about Luke .

Luke fought snoke over ben but couldnt kill him. Snoke fled.ben became a Knight of ren. Snoke sent the knights of ren to kill the Jedi while Luke was absent.Luke went to ahch-to to become more powerful and learn more about snoke and his pre-sith knights of ren.

 

Yep that would be a good scene in the movie if it's made.
