I used to love this movie as a kid. Rewatched some years a go and I realise that is Robin Williams best acting.

    Wonka is wonderful.

Chalamet is genuinely outstanding in an all round first rate cast. Story is great. Virtually no flab and no scenes that fall flat or just feel like wheels turning. All the new songs were pitch perfect, especially Willie and Noodle's duet. It's a combination that kept me so in the moment for the duration that the second act gut punch completely blindsided me despite it being set up moments before.

A perfectly suitable movie for kids of all ages. Any niggles I have about it are trivial. I highly recommend it.

Legend, the 1985 fantasy flick by Ridley Scott.
    Legend-736805608-large.jpg

I had fond memories of this, although, admittedly, the only thing I really remembered of it was Tim Curry as the devil thing, “The Darkness”. Turns out, it’s a pretty bad movie, with The Darkness being the standout feature, along with its fabuous budget well spent on bling and scenery. Even Tom Cruise manages to lack charm in this one, and that man is usually charm incarnate!

I’ve long suspected that Ridley Scott is a highly overrated filmmaker. He knows his camera work well – that much is indisputable – but aside of that, he’s good at spending (and landing) huge budgets, and not much more. He’s been lucky with a couple of landmark movies that will go down as historically significant long after we're all gone, but most of his catalogue consists of rather meh movies saved by enormous budgets.

An old favorite of mine. I also recommend the Stephen King novel (written under his Richard Bachman pseudonym) although it's very different from the movie. There's no game grid or American Gladiator style stalkers, it's like a national manhunt conducted by law enforcement and viewers can win money for calling in tips and sightings that lead to finding the runner. Also the runners aren't convicts like they are in the movie but just regular people who are destitute and desperate enough to volunteer in hopes of surviving and winning the money.

I love that movie but the first time I saw it I just hated it. I actually saw it at some local radio station premiere happening in Dallas that somebody had been given tickets to and they changed uninterested hands many times before landing at me and another guy who were bored enough to go check it out. It wasn't some fancy red carpet thing, it was just a sneak preview hosted by a couple of lame DJs. I didn't watch it again for close to 20 years and only remembered it as garbage then caught it on TV in the late 2010's and loved it.

Started reading the Harry Potter books again in december... and after finishing each book, watched the accompanying movie.
7 books and 8 movies later, I'm still marveling just how good they are... both the books and their adaptations.

I haven't seen this since I was a kid, I loved it at the time and had the toys and stuff but I guess I got over it. I think it just grabbed my interest between Keaton's Batman movies which I enjoy much more. Nor is it one of those movies that seems to come on TV all the time or I might have watched it for old-times sake although I'm not particularly nostalgic about it. I completely forget this movie exists unless I randomly come across something about it on the internet which isn't often. Anyway I finally watched it again and it was entertaining. Not a great movie but amazing to look at. Beatty's performance is kind of meh and Madonna delivers every line like she thinks she's in a porno, though you can't really blame her because most of her lines sound like they were taken from one.

I watched this one last night also after coming across it on TV. I have mixed feelings about it, it starts off pretty good and I wonder why I don't like it as much as the first two then Max gets exiled and mixed up with those goofy kids and then I remember. Then you get to the climax which just feels like less-cool version of the one from the second movie. It's still entertaining overall but it's really uneven which probably comes from having two different directors.

The latter was really funny. The movie is by the same guy that directed Hobgoblins which they used on a Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode. This one might be worse than Hobgoblins and that's one of the worst movies ever made. Rather than being a Gremlins rip off this one is more like a The Shining ripoff but set in a haunted/cursed movie theater that comes up with dumb ways to kill dumb characters to an awful Casio soundtrack.
