It sounds really good but I really I’m not good with horror films.
So I’m not sure if I should see this at the cinema or wait for the home release.

It's not really a horror movie. It's more of a thriller. Yes, there are some few "jump scares" and scary moments, but it's much more intense than scary. You really need a good and quiet audience though.

The Cloverfield Paradox and Godzilla Monster Planet on Netflix. Both were good, however I wish there had been a little more Cloverfield.

A Quiet Place. A very solid horror flick with a really nice parenting theme and good performances. I liked it a lot.

A QUIET PLACE might be slightly overrated but not by much.
It's a great horror romp and it has a few things I could really deal without but the good in it is so good you kind of ignore and forgive a lot of the dumb things that make no sense.
It's definitely one of the better horror films I've seen in a long time. Especially as a first outing from Krasinski

Finished watching Pretty Woman for the first time not five minutes ago. An enrapturing rom-com that belongs with the top movies I've ever seen. I even rate it above Hitch, which I ADORE. Tomorrow, Maid In Manhattan!

    Have I ever DNF'd a movie...? I...honestly don't think I had. So, let's talk Maid in Manhattan.

Let me start by saying I love fairy tales. I'm not the demographic for them at all, but I find them enchanting, and the sheer versatile potential of them makes me appreciate them from a creative standpoint. I liked the Cinderella 2015 remake; I've seen every Disney Princess movie barring Sleeping Beauty, Ella Enchanted, and Brave at some point in my life; I watched 5 of the 7 seasons of Once Upon a Time, ending there only because I moved to a place where it's been hard to watch it; The Lunar Chronicles are some of the best YA sci-fi I've read. I. LOVE. FAIRY TALES.

But clearly not all. I didn't like Maid In Manhattan. This was a Cinderella story set in modern day - like so many others - that didn't interest me in the least. I skipped out giant portions just to desperately find something to attach on to. I didn't even make it to the end.

I like Jennifer Lopez as an actor, but I didn't feel connected to her here. I'm fine with dated movies for the most part, and the line about googling some fact at school felt ahead of its time. But the actors weren't appealing in their roles, the story felt bland, and the music uninspired.

The male lead character felt bland. Not even good enough to remember his name LESS THAN 10 MINUTES AFTER WATCHING and generally without conflict. Things happen around him, but he doesn't seem to have any real obstacle he personally has to face. As a comparison, Edward from Pretty Woman had his corporate takeover case throughout the movie. And while Edward had assistants and lawyers and a team, the bulk of the work and personal aspect fell to him. Generic Prince Charming had none of that. Worried about paparazzi? Let my assistant handle that. Worried about finding this mysterious princess? Let the hotel management find her. Now, this all could have changed in the giant portions I missed, but I honestly don't care.

For all my ranting, I don't actually hate the movie. I just don't care about it either way. It's not the worst movie I've seen...or maybe it is. At least it didn't crush my soul.

    P.S.
If you like this movie, I won't knock you for that. I personally just happen to not like it. And on that we can agree to disagree.

nope, i don't do them. i literally can't cope with those moments lol....

i was stuck in the ceiling when that happened.

i won't even talk about 'what lies beneath'. my mate told me that was a thriller, and the bloody film nearly gave me a heart attack!
i won't comment at this point... i just damaged my own street cred enough for one day :D

I’m the same I just can’t do horror. Personally I blame my one of my best friends who though it would be a great idea to watch the original Ghostbusters at night for the first time I was about 8 or 9 that librarian scen had the same effect on me as @Maximus. I did not sleep well that week.
However I’m risking A Quite Place.

i'm such a pansy with those films that it's actually making me nervous that someone who doesn't like them is giving one a try.

    enjoy ! :D

To be honest, I'm not much for it either... Mrs Lazarus goes to the cinema with her best mate if there's a horror to watch. I can happily dodge them.

I still remember going to see Event Horizon with a mate as we'd arrived at the cinema too late to get into whatever we'd been intending to see. I chipped in and suggested that we go on the basis that it was a sci-fi... I quite enjoyed it at the time, but he was climbing the walls by the time we came out :D

    Tomb Raider (2018)

Good: Not as silly as the Angelina Jolie ones, there are no monsters etc. Similar feel and format to the rebooted Tomb Raider game from 2013, shipwrecked on an island, develops skills to become the Lara that we know. Plot twist at the end which may allude to a sequel.

Bad: Alicia Vikander's fake English accent was all over the place and sounded Irish or American at times, which was distracting. Plus she doesn't look like an indigenous aristocratic Englishwoman like Lara Croft is supposed to be.

    7/10

Apart from TLJ (which I still adore,) yesterday I also saw Trip to the Moon, probably the first sci-fi film ever. I saw the colour version, which was made by hand-painting the black-and white film frames, more than 13,000 of them! It's story isn't really groundbreaking by today's standards, but it's a charming insight into the history of cinema.
