I liked it, which is strange because I can't watch Game of Thrones because it's too violent. Go figure!

It is a great little piece of cinema history - partly inspired by Jules Verne too. Did you ever see the brilliant video for Smashing Pumpkins 'Tonight, Tonight' which borrows from it quite heavily?

I finally caught Mute over the weekend... but have to admit that while I admired it (particularly it's Blade Runner aping Berlin future-scapes achieved with a relatively modest budget), it's a movie that's hard to love when pretty much all the characters are so unlikeable.

Unsolicited and subjective Lazarus score 7/10

Just got home from watching Infinity War. One of the best superhero movies I've ever seen.

Yesterday my local cinema showed a remastered version of Hellraiser (1987). I've never watched this movie before, so I decided to go and see it. I enjoyed the movie, especially because I'm a big fan of practical effects.

That`s a pretty cool movie. The beginning of the special effects. I recommend the video "Tonight, Tonight" from the Smashing Pumpkins based in Trip to the Moon.

Star Trek - The Motion Picture 7/10. This movie has a 2001 - Space Odyssey vibe, very different from the tv series TOS.

Avengers Infinity Wars and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the movie.

Josh Brolin is a great Thanos.

What a GREAT movie. LOVED IT.

Josh Brolin nailed it as Thanos.
Thanos was the main character of the movie & the best character of the movie.
The scènes between Thanos & Gamora where great.

    Dumb and Dumber.

It's one of my favorite movies of all time, it never fails to pick me up when I'm feeling down either.

Just finished watching Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It was overall a good movie and I took a lot of insight from it.

As a little preamble, this past week I've been doing a lot of thinking about writing and whatnot, and I realized the difference between character development and character interaction. For example, in the MCU, all the solo hero movies have (or should have) character development, while the Avengers ones run on character interaction. The banter. In the Mass Effect games (specifically ME2 & ME3, since I was never able to play ME1 and haven't played ME:A yet) the dialogue the characters have during the map or during the downtime between missions is character interaction. The talks with Shepard 1-on-1 or during their "loyalty" missions are usually character development.

This doesn't mean that interaction can't lead into development or vice-versa. It's just that they ARE different and I've recently learned to appreciate that difference. It should also be noted that banter is a specific type of interaction.

Likewise with Fantastic Beasts, I learned to appreciate the difference between a prequel and backstory.

To me, Fantastic Beasts is a prequel done right. It expands the scope of the world, introduces new characters, yet still feels like the same story. I liked the minimalist connection it has to the Harry Potter movies outside of a few references and allusions. And since they've established the new cast now, I don't mind more connections going forward. But what this isn't is a backstory. This isn't a backstory about Voldemort's first conquest or what Dumbledore and Grindelwald's relationship was. This isn't about a prophecy or the Potters or anything like that. THIS ISN'T ABOUT HARRY POTTER. AND I LOVE THAT.

This is about the world that Harry was born into and in some ways how it shapes him/will shape him, but it's not about the character - or any original book character* - himself.

Onto the weird. While I understand the use of CGI in this movie and overall thought it was well done, it did feel a bit...shiny to me. I became slightly detached from what I was seeing and that is a slight problem. Now, you might wonder why I criticize Fantastic Beasts about this while Infinity War gets a free pass. Honestly it's because I see them doing two different things. Infinity War is a popcorn flick. It's not asking me to believe that I or any other person could reasonably live in this world. It's saying, "watch, get a little emotional, and have fun!" Fantastic Beasts I thought was trying to bring me into the world like the original movies did. And it kinda failed.

Another thing to note is the element of wonder within the story. Frankly, it was lacking. But again, this is (mostly) by design. This isn't a Hero's Journey. This isn't the story of a 11 year old boy discovering that there's a whole different world that he just became apart of. This isn't about wonder. Sure there is magic in this world, but that's it. It's just a part of the world. These are people who've gone their whole lives knowing about and living with magic. They have no reason to feel a real sense of wonder. And had the movie left it there, I would have been fine...but it didn't.

Jacob Kowalski was one of my favorite characters in the movie, but asking the audience to feel the wonder of the world through his eyes when the world itself ins't bursting with that wonder in the same way (or rather, the other characters don't feel the same level of wonder) makes him fall kinda flat. I like his presence, and his relationship with Goldie is BY FAR my favorite part, but putting us in his shoes failed.

The other characters were fine: Newt had depth, if he couldn't always show it off; Tina learned some lesson...I think; Credence was wonderfully acted; and Goldie was AMAZING. She was the star of the show (the whole mind-reading Manic Pixie Dream Girl thing totally worked for the story). I guess my only complaint here was Grindelwald...like, where there clues? Can someone point them out to me?

Overall, I enjoyed the movie a good amount and I'm actually looking forward for the sequel.

Tully. A comedy starring Charlize Theron as a mother who after her third child hires a night nanny called Tully, played by Mackenzie Davis, to take care after her newborn daughter at night, so that the parents are able to sleep. I really enjoyed it. It was funny, two lead performances were absolutely great and the film has a great message regarding motherhood and parenting in general. A big thumbs up.

I've watched Infinity War yesterday. It was just okay for me, but to be honest I thought I would dislike this movie much more.

It has its ups and downs. In the end I don't get the hype. Thanos was a good villain though. At least for a Marvel movie.

Got Singing in the Rain on Blu-ray (finally) and it reminded me of how much i loved this movie as a child.

The songs are great, great cast, incredible dance numbers, ... .

One of my all-time favorite movies!

Let the Sunshine In. A really depressing look at a life of 50-something-year-old woman, played wonderfully by Juliette Binoche, who is struggling to find love and jumps from one relationship into another. It was surprisingly bleak.
