SPECULATION Lor San Tekka (Max Von Sydow's Character).

If I recall correctly, the latest reports, including our own Viral Hide, claim that there is no one that is primarily a cyborg.

It seems that a lot of that came from early concept art (including Chewie with a cybernetic arm) where the conceptualists were toying around with cyborg characters that didn't make the cut.

I think it's very telling that the first real Art depicting MVS shows him lacking robotic parts. Much of what we saw was likely early pre-casting Art.

 

Agreed that he may not be a cyborg. But that does not mean he can't be a cantina drunk/patron with a connection to Rey.

 

The new concept art makes me think that he is a Jedi.

 

I'm thinking that MvS may have robotic parts under the robe. (dodges knives, pots, pans and fruits)

 

Also uncle owen did nit dress all that different types than Obi-Wan.

 

Go check the original concept art thread... some of those leaked images were actually Montross from the OT

While theatrical license could easily cover this, I find the father idea speculative at best... interesting but speculative...

I was referring to the early ESB draft "description" of Montross, not the concept art.

 

I remember seeing that in the spoilerman stuff for sure. I don't think it's a bad idea for him to be an aged character that appeared in the OT or PT as long as it isn't someone ridiculous. There were plenty of random little parts in the PT but I'm not sure if any were ever mentioned in the current canon so it might be easy to throw a PT character in there and give them a more interesting back story. I can't see them taking the risk of using Mvs as a character of too much importance because the guy is old. I don't want to put any bad juju on him but I think it's a little risky to put him in a main role counting on his health to remain stable.

They could really weave any character they want in there even its an entirely new character that they create a background for. George Lucas has no involvement so it's hard to assume its going to be something that seemed like an obvious character GL might have used.
Some people chewed me out a while back saying GL was overseeing everything but that turned out to be B.S. so they might take MvS's character in a direction we simply cannot predict.

I think I've read people's speculation that Gary Oldman was up for the part that went to Von Sydow and I wonder how true that is. Considering they are about 30 years apart in age. What role were they looking at Oldman for?

It's true that making Oldman look like an old man isn't a hard task. The guy was Dracula.

 

I think he's an awesome actor. That would have been cool to see him SW . If that rumor is true maybe it's the voice that they chose Mvs over Oldman for.

They should have gotten Simon Pegg to be Dengar since he did the voice in Clone Wars.
