Maybe to say a few words to Luke in a scene like ''it's your destiny'' blah blah thing.

So he grows up and becomes white and British?

I'm not sure what's worse that, or the inevitable scene where MsV laments over his youthful days long past cheering Anakin on at the Boonta Eve just so we know who he is...

Actually screw that. If they're just going to monumentally waste talent, I want MsV to play the little red head kid that's hanging around with the kids that come around when Anakin is working on his pod, and Ben Kingsley to play Kitster and I want them to be bitter old men who get in seriously violent bar fights over whether Anakin or Sebulba was the best podracer.

And lets throw in Meryl Streep and Vanessa Redgrave as the little girls that were teasing Anakin, all grown up.

Actually forget that. I want Max Von Sydow to play an old badass cyborg Ric Olie. Think about it.

El audaz Ric OliƩ.jpg ___ Max Von Sydow will be playing in Episode VII_ Our best clue is the.jpg

Who knows, maybe they can get Sydney Poitier to cameo as Captain Panaka.

And Robert Redford as that one Naboo Starfighter pilot that was way more excited than everyone else.

FSW posted some "leaks" aka speculation that Max von Sydow was portraying Padme's estranged brother who moved to Tatooine and changed his name to Darklighter. He fathered Biggs and Rey's mother.

The idea of having MVS related to Padme in some way is not dumb.

But if he is "The Vicar" and gets interested in the Lightsaber at the first place... why's that?

Here are my questions and sub-questions:

1 - Are there any lightsabers left in the galaxy... has it become such an artifcat and rarety that people are torching down villages to get one?

    a) If yes, then why The Vicar is risking the life of the villagers to protect this valuable item?
    b) Is it because they want to get hold of one, to reverse engineer it to build more of them?
    c) Can a non-force user use a lightsaber, is it then truly an advantage in a battle field? (Order 66 proved that blasters against Jedi Master are quite effective).

2 - Is it known that the Lightsaber, this one, was Anakin's or Luke's?

    a) The Vicar is aware of that? Is he in league with the Alliance to risk his, and villagers lives to protect Luke Skywalker?
    b) Is the Alliance after Luke or trying to protect him?
    c) If it is Anakin's.... then, why The Vicar, his people and the Alliance are so willing to risk their lives to prevent it to fall into the wrong hands?

    Bottomline:

If THE LIGHTSABER is the Macguffin is it because...

    - It's a rare weapon?
    - It's a symbol?
    - It has valuable information attached to it?

Disclaimer- I am not involved with production of The Force Awakens in any way, and while this is speculation, this thread may actually contain spoilers.

What if Max von Sydow's character is Clone Captain CT-7567, AKA "Rex".

Yes, I thought it was crazy myself when I first considered him. However when I looked into it, it began to seem very plausible. When you read the MSW supposed description of MVS's character, it makes him seem like a very, very old man who has been through almost all of the Star Wars saga so far. It makes it seem like the character has lived through the horrors of the Clone Wars, the dark period between Episodes III and IV, and the Galactic Civil War period and beyond. The character apparently lives with Rey, maybe even watching out for her a la Uncle Owen. The character may or may not be a cyborg, but anyone who has followed MSW would probably already know this.

What intrigued me the most was the description of what his reaction is when the supposed 'space saber' is brought to him. It says he regains some of the memories he had lost. Now, it may just be me, but if the 'space-saber' plot is real, what would jolt the memory of someone better than an object that was the closest possession that the man that that person looked up to the most. If this character is Rex, then that scene would make a lot of sense.

The other descriptions of this particular character that I've come across state that the character is from the Prequel era and will shock the audience when his identity is revealed. He is also supposedly not force sensitive. A lot of people have taken that to mean Boba Fett, but I don't think Fett would 1. Be all that much of a shock (He is one of those characters that you would expect to come back from the Sarlacc), and 2. He was barely in the prequel era. Sure, he was in Episode III and TCW, but that was as a kid. The way the rumors are worded makes it seem like the character was a key player in the Clone Wars, not a bounty hunter wannabe (at that point).

Also, age wouldn't necessarily be an issue, even with the advanced aging that may have been caused by the inhibitor chips implanted into the brains of the clone troopers. I did some calculations, and if the chips did cause the accelerated growth, and if Rex had his removed like Fives did, then the age of Rex at the time of the Sequel Trilogy, assuming that the ST begins 35 ABE, then Rex would be the equivalent of 83, almost the same age as von Sydow. The most likely scenario in which Rex has his chip removed would be if he deserted from the Republic right before the events of RotS. There is evidence that Rex was contemplating desertion, or at least knew it was an option. The best example I can think of is the episode of TCW The Deserter. As we know, Rex goes into the episode looking down on deserters as cowards, but the episode ends with Rex having a better understanding of free thought. The Umbara arc further accents this.

There is no record of Rex after TCW, but it is my understanding that there are a few rumors that Rex may make an appearance in season 2 of Rebels.

This really does seem like a really bad storyline written down, but if it were done right, it could be an amazing continuation of the story of the character. It probably won't happen, but it is just as likely as anything else at this point. Feel free to poke as many holes as you can into my crazy fan theory that may just happen to be true. :p

PS - I am sorry if something like this has been discussed before and dismissed.

I've always liked the idea of MVS being a clone. MVS also eerily looks a lot like 99, the clone that was a reject of the batch. So yah I'm on board.

I don't care either way because Max Von Sydow is a badass of Alec Guinness proportions.

Welcome to The Cantina Darth Librus. I am kind of lost with the Clone Wars series (I've watched a couple of seasons, but I must admit, I didn't have the time yet to watch it all)... Wasn't Rex a clone of Jango Fett?

If I remember correctly, the guy that claimed everyone would be shocked by his identity was debunked?

I have no strong feelings either way, but him being a clone could open up a lot of possibilities for haunting dialogue about being forced to kill the Jedi.

SpoilerMan? Yeah, he was full of it. (He might have gotten a few things right, though.)

I don't think MVS is this Vicar character, presuming the guy is even in the movie. They wouldn't have cast a prestigious actor like him so early on if his role only amounted to a glorified five-minute cameo. They could have cast literally anyone to fill that role if that were the case.

I feel like earlier reports, which suggested that he was an elderly guardian to Rey, are considerably more plausible - especially considering that the concept art that leaked out earlier showed him indoors and not out on the field (which is the only place where the Vicar is seen in the entire movie).

Like others were mentioning, the member that was really huge on the "you're going to be floored when you find out which PT character he is" was largely debunked. Now, that said, I can't remember if he was the only one saying that, or the rumor had already been floating around before from some perhaps more credible sources.

In any case, I do like the idea of him being and elder Rex from TCW. The arguments you present do make sense, and in any case even the large amount of cybernetic implants could possibly aid him in surviving to the ripe old age, given the extent he seems to have them applied.

It would also really open him up to play a part in Rebels, which I would love.

He was "Vicar" in The Ox. Jason Ward just asumed that was Max von Sydow's role due to it matching a character's name he formerly played. It is more than likely a production name to hide the character's true name.

Unless his true name is Johnson McDoodle, why would it matter what his name is? So fans don't go out and buy a domain name?
Seems to be a lot of random code names for some characters and locations, but not for others....
