We've all seen the picture.. What do you think?

My initial reaction was "meh.." I think its kind of silly how much he resembles Obi Wan.. I was expecting some sort of grit to his costume, something unconventional and closer to 'badass Jedi' rather than 'divine holy Jedi'

All this talk about JJ getting excited over the question "Who is Luke Skywalker" yet it seems they're taking a safer route.. making him a superpowered version of Obi Wan Kenobi.. or thats what I take away from this picture anyway.

Anyway, i'm not saying its not good, its just a safe choice. I can tell right off the bat that he's going to be the Gandalf of this trilogy.

In my opinion it just looks perfect - it looks like I imagined for so many years now. :-D

I don't think he looks silly. He looks wiser dressing like this and its kind a homanage to the old Ben, his first "master" and instructor.

I have a hunch that it is in fact just the costume Luke was last seen wearing before his disappearance; the robes of the Master of the New Jedi Academy. Some have speculated it's from a hologram recording and I'm starting to lean that way myself.

Since his disappearance he might look quite different.

To each their own, but I completely do not understand the disdain for the style. I love Luke's new look and the "generic" Jedi style, to me it exudes humility and eschews flashiness. Not saying a Jedi is required to look like they did prior to Order 66, but I love the style, and really each Old Republic Jedi had their unique style taking off from the "generic" Jedi style. I've been waiting to see Luke Skywalker the Jedi Master for 32 years and (10-15 years ago) the PT gave me a taste of what that could look like. This leaked pic is awesome to me. I agree with the previously noted idea that Luke is paying homage to Obi-Wan (and the Jedi past). With the understanding that the ST is the next generation's show, I still think/hope Luke that will be a big part of it, and have an imprint on the Jedi of the galaxy's future.

I'm glad someone here said it. I noticed a few similar comments at IO9 and was glad I wasn't the only one who saw the emperor's new clothes for what they were...

It straight up looks like Mark Hamill pretending to be Alec Guinness playing Obi-Wan Kenobi, right down to the beard and hair! Original it definitely ain't. Heck, even where the robes aren't *quite* old Ben, it looks like they were lifted off Ed Asner's character from KOTOR.

I admit, it's grown on me a bit because I *can* appreciate the idea of Luke emulating Obi-Wan as he gets older. He was the only living Jedi (other than Yoda) Luke had to look up to...and he was essentially the closest thing to a father he had. I could see myself doing the same thing.

Disagree with father figure. Uncle Owen was there for his whole life. We didn't see it on screen but Owen loved Luke like he was his son. He was terrified Luke would become Vader. That's why he didn't want him to run off to the academy not because he needed him for one more season.

On topic now. I love the look. He is a Jedi, older, wiser, and a warrior who has survived the temptation of the dark side. This is what he should look like in my humble opinion. The Jedi failed but the idea of the Jedi order was not the failure. It was around for a 1000 generations as the guardians of peace in the galaxy.

Uncle Owen was too hard on Luke... If he'd only let him pick up power convertors at Tosche Station...

I was hoping for a continuation of the black outfit in Jedi. But I dig the light robes too.

I've said it in another thread, but I think this shot is for a hologram of Luke that we will see in the movie. All the cameras, and the way he is standing with his hands together, like he's giving a speech. Looks a lot like the Obi Wan hologram that we saw in Rebels. Just a thought.

The tones are MUCH lighter than anything we have ever seen on ANY Jedi. This is a silly argument to me anyways because all of the Jedi have the same basic uniform, of course the colors change but the humble robe stays the same for the most part. Obviously he is bearded and they are going for a Kenobi look, but that's because, like Kenobi, Luke has been in exile for a while at this point, and like Kenobi, he is an old Jedi master.... I appreciate the lighter tones because while it hints to Kenobi and the Jedi that came before him, it also shows us that he is the epitome of the light side of the force.

If it wasn't for the prequels turning Ben Kenobi's dressing gown into a school uniform for all Jedi.. Everyone would be saying this is a ripoff of Obi Wan.

Again, I like this costume! But someone has to point these things out.

I didn't say it looked silly.

I can appreciate the Jedi uniform look they have going on here, but maybe because I'm a designer, the robes are just so boring. My favorite Luke get up is either his Bespin fatigues or ceremonial ANH. But I was hoping, like others, for a continuation of the black we saw in Jedi, or something more utilitarian. A set of coveralls can be just as humble as a tunic and robes.

I was expecting something closer to these designs, but in dark brown or with white sleeves etc under dark robes.. as these make him look too dark.

I will say that Mark is owning this new look though, it would be great to see him duel someone in this movie.

THIS. YES. So glad that look has been brought back into TFA with the Finn outfit (he seemingly stole from Poe Dameron...)

Luke's ANH ceremonial outfit matched very well with Han Solo's space cowboy/smuggler, so I always liked that change for Luke at the end. It was stylish back then and it even looks stylish now.

He looks pompous and prideful. And I love it. :)

This to me looks like a man who is about to be humbled. A man who needs to stumble a bit. Much like the PT Jedi.

I'm inclined to side with those who think this may not be the Luke that gets found, but either a flashback, hologram, or perhaps something else entirely (I still lean towards this being a capture for a video game segment between RotJ and TFA)

I'd bet when we see Luke on Skellig Michael, he looks somewhat different and much more ragged. But that's just my personal speculation.

Those are exactly my thoughts as well, maybe he's got just a little arrogant with power and influence? I'd prefer that to him being an emotionless monk.. Obi Wan is my favorite character because he was 100% good but at the same time there was a slightly childish or impatient side to him. You can see this in both Ewan and Alec's performances. I don't think we're going to see another Jedi with such a good balance of that.

I see Luke as a potential "What if" scenario take on obi-Wan if he had bested Vader and taken control of rebuilding the Jedi Order after the emperor's failed coup.

Obi Wan, much like Luke in the OT, had a lot of good qualities, but also some bad. His impatience. his inability to see Anakin's flaws. His hubris for the might and right of the jedi order. Tatooine humbled him. He went into exile and learned his lesson while playing the hermit for 20 years.

I see Luke in the ST as an alternate take. Someone who power could still impact negatively. Someone who maybe hasn't been exposed to the arrogance that brought down the Jedi order and is doomed to repeat it. I see Luke's arc in the ST as him becoming Obi Wan, not starting as Obi Wan. Over the course of these movies I think he will learn what Obi Wan couldn't teach him. The humility and inner peace to wield great power without it having a corrupting effect. Or at least that is my hope.

I'll admit, when I first saw the picture, I was really impressed. Just seeing Luke was an amazing experience. But over time, I'm starting to wonder why he's so pristine. I'd have imagined that over the years in his disappearance, he would have become gaunt, scarred, and gritty. I was expecting darker robes, but instead we got clean, cream-colored ones. I'm not disappointed as much as surprised; if he can afford to have clean robes, then why can't he take care of his robotic hand, which would surely have rotted away during his disappearance?

Maybe, like a few others have speculated, he dresses like this in a hologram, pre-disappearance. But when we actually see him in the movie, he's far more rough and gritty, closer to ROTJ than what we've seen.

I'm also going off of what Kyle stated in his post about the

Standoff between Luke, Kylo and Han. Kyle stated that Luke was wearing dark robes, so I'm going to take his word for it.
