Rey has shown more emotion, charisma, conflict, and comedy in her few seconds of screen time in these trailers than we got from Padme in the entire Prequel trilogy. Padme and Anakin were the two worst cast and directed characters in the Star Wars Universe. I have no doubt Finn and Rey will be "delightful" and endearing, unlike Padme and Anakin.

That is definitely an error with the editing, they come to a full stop a full second before the close up shot. Most people won't notice because of the massive explosion that is supposed to have our attention. There is still time for fine tuning though, maybe it will be fixed in the final version

I'm afraid that this can remain in the final cut. It is so common to edit action sequences that way. If you youtube some Michael Bay explosions it seems like every other explosion is happening twice or more.

    Not very Star Warsy, though.

I disagree. I think one or two (thousand) of us have been clouded by the hype. Sure, we've seen very little, but for me, Daisy's delivery hasn't impressed me...yet. Look, I'm a huge Star Wars fan and love both the OT and the PT (Yes, you read that right!) but I'm just saying it as I see it. Some of these comments on the acting being superb and way better than anything we saw in the PT is way off, imo. Some of what I have seen looks and sound great, some of it looks iffy - to put it mildly.

Looks like they've kept with George Lucas's bad dialogue then. Not very impressed by that clip at all.

It could be the only take they had? I can't see a take with an explosion like that being cheap; not that that is a concern with Disney :)

    Difficult.

    Why difficult?
Because there are only so many ways you can raise an arm.

Sounds funny, but uhm... showing an actual Hitler salute would guarantee this movie being banned in Germany.
SO, change the arm, make it a fist and you're on the safe.
    Oh wait...
Erm, make it the classic fist bump to the heart, oh wait, that's from somwhere else.
How 'bout two raised arms with fist..
    Ah, damn it...

I understand why someone would be irritated.
But I also can see why they did it.
I would actually have swallowed my own irritation had it been the Hitler salute. But there stands the thing with: it's illegal in Germany.
As it is, the healthy German aversion to a lot of uniformly dressed people raising their arms in unison jumped to life just fine
    *shudders*

Here! I extracted the scene so you don't have to watch an entire video. Enjoy :)

The ship in the air is a Tie. But in the very beginning, when they start running, right past when they go through the arch thing at about 0:03, something that sorta looks the Falcon might be on the ground in the background. Maybe. Probably not. But that is the only Falcony-lookin' thing in that video. I doubt it though.

I actually think the discontinuity is intentional. You see this a lot with explosions in movies, where the explosion will be edited so that it appears to happen two or three times in quick succession. It's an instance of abandoning a strictly "realistic" seamlessness in favor of a more dramatic rhythm. Given how much JJ likes to show off with the camera movements (and the fact that we know the final cut was already delivered, and they picked this as their first clip to showcase) I think it's safe to say this is a carefully edited action clip.

Personally I really like the rhythm here, how it seems to pause and lurch after-the-fact, like a stutter-step.

I leave for a week. I Come back and people are still nitpicking everything based off of pieces of footage and not the whole movie.

Yeah, when this movie comes out the aftermath is going to be an adventure.

Folks, I think JJ nailed it when he said the movies had to be "delightful". The Prequels had their ups and downs. I still enjoy them for what they are. However, I would never describe them as having any delightful qualities. The banter between Obi-Wan and Anakin was an attempt, but it felt forced and one-way because Hayden just couldn't do it. Ewan was the only "delightful" one of the Prequel trilogy. Chemistry was missing in the Prequels.

Now, I'm not saying the acting in the TFA trailers is Academy Award winning, I'm just saying their does appear to be some chemistry and fun going on. That's all I ask of a Star Wars movie.
