Never before seen footage premiering at the AMA's

Just want to add after seeing that clip again.
I love the animation of BB-8 rolling behind them, and her head turning around after each explosion. Its the little animation in that that makes that droid awesome.

 

I'm on the 'Daisy's acting isn't bad' side of the discussion. What you have to remember is she is sprinting, full costume, a staff, insane Abu Dhabi heat all whilst delivering lines. It sounds frantic which I guess is what it should do right? Lets give the girl a fighting chance before crucifying her based on one scene!

 

Since that Mayhew comment, people have been quite paranoid with her acting. It's sooooooooo ridiculous.
In this scene, she seems in control of the situation. She's a survivor. She's showing cold blood. It goes with the character.
Boyega's character is more outgoing. That's all.
JJ's proud of his main actors. They'll deliver.

 

I could not agree more!!! Lucas might have been the eyes, but Williams is the ears of Star Wars.

when the movie starts and the crawl starts, the millisecond after John Williams' score starts, I'm going to have tears of happiness flooding down my face for probably the first 5 minutes.

I can't wait. =)

 

It's not even like that.

It was just weird to me. Her talking just didn't match what was happening in the scene.

 

What?? People were serious about thinking her acting was bad? I thought they were trying to be funny, her acting in that scene was fine, especially at a full sprint.

 

There's one thing I don't like about Star Wars... It's the fans!! Some of you guys are being so nitpicky and just looking for flaws in everything. Just sit down for a second and allow yourself to enjoy the movie. All these people who complained about this 15 second clip are GUARANTEED to be disappointed after seeing TFA for the first time. Personally I just want a fun movie, with a good story and likeable characters. It doesn't have to be perfect. Drops mic.

I'm not being nitpicky. The only complaint I had is the only thing that pulled me out of the scene. Rest assured, I'm going to judge this movie much of the same way, as I would all other movies.

Now I agree, people are nitpicking when it comes to the editing, which is clearly done deliberately to show both the explosion and Finn and Rey's reaction to the explosion.

 

Daisy Ridley's acting in that scene is perfectly fine. Jeez.

 

So after checking out

After checking out a couple forums this morning, I've read the following complaints about this 15 second clip:

- Boyega needs to "dial down" his acting
- Ridley's acting is very poor
- Ridley's trying way too hard with her accent
- "Quad Jumper" is a questionable name
- The quad jumper shouldn't have exploded after a single hit
- The editing is terrible
- The score isn't memorable enough and/or isn't Star Warsy

I may have missed another complaint or twelve. These forums can be brutal.

 

It is amazing what he can do

The fact that the editing process was nearly complete when the time he scored the film adds to my excitement.

Lucas had edited his score in so many different place for the PT that some of what he created got lost.

Gosh darnnit Peter why did you have to say anything? I love Peter Mayhew, I met him before and he's a very humble and kind guy but he messed up. I imagined JJ face palming when he found out about this interview. I'm sure he meant no harm but it was just a poor choice of words which seemed to stir up doubts in the fans about Daisy's acting ability.

so please people don't twist words...

 

I for one didn't take his words in negative context. But the way he said it I can see how some would confusingly take it out of context. Like I said, poor choice of words. And the worst thing he can do to make fanboys cry is to compare her to a PT actress, though I don't think Portman is a bad actress, her character was just written poorly. I mean I how can you make the line " he said you killed younglings" convincing lol

 

Exactly, he is comparing her to how she was at celebration, he is clearly not talking about her acting skills.

Hahaha like I said Portman is not a bad actress, her character was poorly written in the prequels. I love her in her other work.

 

I'll tell you .. it's funny because I thought the same thing about her acting when watching this scene.. was VERY surprised to see that many others have commented on this as well.

BUT

I have faith.. I think the scene of her crying in the other trailer (Next to what we think is Chewie, Han or Finn) looks damn good! So I have faith..

But another reason that she stands out as a little 'weak' is also because A) This is literally her first film.. and what a film! Star Wars! So we can't honestly expect NITRO and confidence and experience from her.. Most actors don't peak until 10-15 movies in at least.. if ever!

And B) She is literally acting next to some greats including Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Harrison Ford, Max Von Sydow along with all the OT cast not to mention being around Lupita (Oscar winner) and Andy Serkis as well, and lastly next to Boyega who for me is a surprise stand out! I say surprise because this is only his 2nd feature film as well, so he has kinda been CRUSHING it here as well, to be fair to him. It is a lot of pressure for Daisy and anyone really with little to no acting experience will look weak in this position.

BTW. How do we think Hamill performed in ANH next to Alec Guinness?

In conclusion.. have faith my friends.. and expect some improvements and maturity by Ep.8 and 9!
