Remember that other composers have composed music for the trailers too.

But this isn't a trailer... this is a clip from the movie.
You can tell that the music is cut from a longer piece.

Unless it was cut and finished earlier than we thought, what we are seeing is what's done by 95% .

    The music is definitely Williams.

And John Williams doesn't record to the 100% final cut of the movie, with the 100% finished visual effects and stuff.

There's a reason why he has 30 mins of unused material that will be released at some point.

You do know how films are recorded, right? The movie and music are time coded to each other and hey record while playing at the same time and edit it during the Post-phase and re-record to tighten up everything.

    Yes... but like I said.

Recording sessions began in June... and finished on the 14th of November. The movie was wrapped up a week later.

So why would this music not be John Williams?

To answer your question, in a logical sense, it would be to preserve JJ's "mystery box."

I am surprised that nobody has mentioned this yet...

I thought that the music in the AMA clip was a little too, let's say, "playful". I understand that the producers want this movie to be delightful, but I can't think of too many examples in the SW movies where action sequences have had playful music. The examples of playful music have generally involved droids and Ewoks away from the action.

Just hoping that it is reflective of the movie's tone as a whole. I think to the more introspective musical numbers in the space battles, binary sunsets, and most notably, the lightsaber battles ("If you will not turn to the darkside, then perhaps she will"... "NO!")

Well not exactly. The film was picture locked on November 3rd at midnight surely providing enough time to make ensure time for any necessary rerecordings.

The action sequence WILL be longer. We see a brief moment. It's a comedic portion of the scene so it would naturally be playful.

Picture Lock is different from locking VFX and all.
    --- Double Post Merged, Nov 24, 2015 ---
Out TFA Picture Lock is when the film is done editing, nothing to do with VFX, SFX, Etc.

I see your point, but do you really see the music's tone changing to be more serious. I mean, they are running from blaster fire hailing down on them. Either way, I hope you're right. Don't mean to be alarmist, so I will reserve judgment until seeing how the sequence fits into the movie as a whole.

I can see the music for that entire sequence being similar to "Battle of the Heroes" in ROTS.

i realize a picture lock is not with finished VFX, but it does mean that the exact timing of shots is decided which is what is necessary for finishing the score.

I'm glad the music has a playful way about it. I'm also glad the score(what little was heard) sounds more along the OT style. PT score is great but...different.

    The clip itself has:
    1. FUN. They are in danger, but it is FUN.
    2. Banter.
    3. Splosions.

    We are in good hands.

Definitely delightful. Exactly what JJ and Larry Kasdan intended. I'm optimistic.

The music sounds awesome. The acting is great, let's remember Rey is a lonely scavenger, not your average sci-fi girl in distress. I find absolutely amazing how she delivers this few lines with urgency and some kind of arrogance, it makes the contrast between she and Finn most noticeable. Boyega will shine in this one, I can feel it. Also, the explosions look amazing, and BB-8 is fast as hell. I love that he is rolling and moving his head trying to see what's happening.

    Lovely clip.
