I think she'll be fine. What we are seeing are trailers/spots/a clip that has been finished for a long time before the final mix was completed. So, what we are seeing NOW could/would be changed in some varying degrees by the time Devember rolls around.

They both deliver their lines a bit cheesily and fun and that's exactly what Star Wars should be.

Also we've seen her speak a handful of words so far and we already have net experts deciding that she's a bad actress...

Ok, so after milling over this for hours and having the very fabric of my life questioned, I realize it's actually not a continuity error for the most part.

Jar Jar Christensen was right. In the first shot they do stop, but most of the motion of the second shot is them gaining their balance.

The movement is coming from the camera dollying in at a rapid speed (something JJ does often). Combine that with them still being off balance, it looks like they're running toward the camera. But if you look closely, it's not terribly mismatched.

That said. I have no idea why they stuck with this cut, because it just doesn't look right. Even if it was technically right, I feel like they should have gone with something more fluid and less jarring.

The dialogue in the clip could be ADR-ed and recorded in a studio. The more blast that's happening on screen coupled with the conditions, the more likely that is necessary. Also, they put out an IMAX photo of this scene before which means those loud-ass cameras were used.

It could also have been edited down for time. I've seen movie clips be chopped down from the movie before. The Wolverine is coming to my mind right away where the clips didn't match the movie.

This thread is killing me. Absolutely killing me. If such a short clip can yield so many complaints, just wait for the whole movie. People are guaranteed to hate it because they can't see the forest for the trees, and in many cases that's a choice that they will have made. It's really too bad.

I thought the visuals and the acting in this short clip were both fantastic, fwiw. Looked, sounded and felt like Star Wars.

I looked over it myself and I notice it cuts to John Boyega's action. It does match the cut because he kind of swings his arms around to gain his balance, Daisy is a little off but not THAT noticeable, this is like nitpick stuff.

Remember, as I said earlier in this thread, that the MOVIE WAS NOT FINISHED at the time this clip was finished so it will obviously sound "off."

    The Nitpicking Awakens
People have been going over-the-top nitpicking Finn. First it was complaining about him breathing hard, even though that makes sense when those were acting scenes. People will nitpick everything.

    A fact of life.....

I don't have a problem with the performance either... but I'm quite certain that the lines have been recorded in ADR sessions...

    Most certainly.

Did people see that leaked set video? The noise on set made it nearly impossible to hear the dialogue. The on set noise from the blaster fire (they used air guns or something like that so that actors/extras can actually feel some impact) was pretty loud...

There are full blown explosions going on here, which you can hear in the Behind the scenes video.

If I were to guess, I'd say that all action scenes in the movie have been ADR-ed in post.

Contrary to popular opinion, a lot of the problems with the prequels had little do with the actors.
As you've shown, Portman has done quite well in her career. Even Hayden Christensen can act... when he's got a director that knows how to work with actors.
Forget Jar Jar or Jake Lloyd (the guy has suffered enough), the biggest flaws with the prequels lie in the writing and directing.

George Lucas is a great visual storyteller, and used to be a great world builder (I feel like becoming a single parent changed him in a way that was ultimately detrimental to the series), but he's a bit hopeless when it comes to script writing or directing actors.
Even decent actors need a bit more direction than "faster and more intense."

JJ Abrams is not George Lucas. He knows how to work with a cast. He's the kind of guy who will physically walk through a shot with an actor to show them what he wants.

How do you know when this clip was finished though...?

I know because hats how the industry works, and with the film not having been completed at the time, the finished spots and all wouldn't have a finished shot per-sé, and it would be too costly to finish shots specifically for trailers and all.

Except... the movie was finished at the time. This clip was released Sunday night. The movie was finished Saturday morning.

However, you are probably right about the clip being delivered to the AMA's far ahead of that time... but it could still be the final edit of that particular scene. Remember that the actual footage/running time was locked in more than a month ago... the past month has been more about completing visual effects shots and sound mixing. You probably won't see any change to the editing of this shot in the finished movie.

My theory is what I said a while ago, that he falcon is their ride out of Jakku, but Han Solo probably mentions them towards him and Chewie and helps them, so they sort of DO run into the Falcon. Also, I want to say that I correctly predicted Finn and Ret running towards a ship that gets blown up, only to see The Falcon and take off in it.

Usually, even with a final lock, there's a final pass minutes before "locking," so yeah, and with VFX shots and SFX shots being worked over, it's still not finalized until those are locked as well.
    --- Double Post Merged, Nov 23, 2015 ---
Was it confirmed that that was his real, original music?
