    She doesn't
She removes the fact that she disabled the shields then frames the last guy who accessed the shield to make it look like he dropped the shields then goes to hunt him down so he can't prove his innocence as he will be dead.

Maybe it's just me, but it feels like a poorly added story to explain something that wasn't intended to happen.

It clearly is damage control, but for what it is I think they did a pretty good job. Together with facts from the novel it seems to improve the character. I'm curious if TLJ is what actually started Phasma 2.0 and the tie-in stuff is just meant to prepare us. I sure hope so.

It started Phasma period. In TFA Phasma was nothing but a shell of a character.

I loved the movie, but they once again failed to deliver on this character's hype. I read the book and the comic, and was hoping for more. Does anyone think she may have survived? I guess if she did, they probably won't wanna reveal that, so we won't get the big build up for a let down again.

Survived? Of course not. Unless JJ Abrams get rid of his brain.

Rumor: they got Tom Stoppard to write a lengthy soliloquy for Phasma, it'll be on the Bluray as a deleted scene -- she explains her entire back story and motivations, it's supposed to be stunningly Shakespearean ;)

Phasma was a costume, not a character. She be dead, dead, dead and gooooone!

She served her purpose like Snoke. Besides, Boba Fett had about as much screentime.

we know she's like a cockroach: she's survived hairier things that this.
would they actually bring her back again?
    it'll be interesting to see.

there may well be a reason they've twigged the fans to the fact that she's one determined survivor. it's her signature trait.

Provide a big bad to Finn

Since Poe took on a dreadnaught.

Rey and Kylo took on Praetorian guards and Snoke.

I almost think she'll be back....almost like a joke. A bit of a Boba Fett "in" joke I think....I could see a busted up scorched Phasma, no longer caring about working for the FO, but as a bounty hunter type who guns specifically for Finn and finally officially dies in ep 9 with some kind of humorous undertone to it after another short skirmish with Finn.....as out of place as this comparison is with Star Wars, think Peter Griffin vs The Chicken on Family Guy.Combine that with the Boba Fett legacy of debate concerning whether or not he's really dead, and I could totally see her being brought back.
