Official Captain Phasma TLJ Thread

They can't salvage anything from her now, leave her dead. I just find it so odd that they'd give her a book and comic that actually delves into the character and develops her to be more than chrome armor just to kill her like that. I wonder if the Story group was upset with TLJ (specifically things like Phasma) and wanted to develop her since the movies weren't going to.

 

I think she is dead. But she deserved more screen time, again...

 

I completely forgot about snap wexley. I read the aftermath books, so now that you mention it, I'm disappointed about his unexplained absence

 

Greg Grunberg was on set of TLJ - a BTS photo of him and Billie Lourde was published some time ago, so scenes with him were shot, but they were most likely cut from the film.

 

Not just Snap but also Jess and Admiral Statura had unexplained absences.

 

Not only that, but also being the thing that Finn had to fight instead of running away from, again.
I've read people complain about Finn. He went from wanting to escape, to fighting back, to be willing to sacrifice himself.
Strong character arc in a movie full of nuance. Phasma was a tool for that arc in the same way Snoke was one for Kylo's.

 

She plunged through two massive explosions into the vacuum of space with a broken helmet....it takes more than determination to survive that!

 

this is true. but if Darth Maul could survive being cut in half and dropped down a shaft, then perhaps it's anybody's game with Phasma too.
maybe they dispatched her this way specifically to leave a wee door open?

I'm almost certain they'll bring her back because she has fans. I hate the idea. What's on screen is certain death!

Maul was brought back but GL had a huge story line for him -- there was a reason, in that GL had concocted an epic arc for the character -- and not a pointless one, watch the episode where Maul and Viszla team up to take over Mandalore and compare it to the 2016 election, it's an on-target trenchant political satire too. From an in-universe perspective, we don't know Dathomirian biology, what's placed where in the body and how important it is, and Maul was a powerful Sith during a time when the Dark Side was overtaking the Light, so maybe we can fudge there, and it was on an animated TV show not a live action feature film.

Phamsa does nothing -- ever. She has a few lines and one fight, so I don't want her back. Now, if they'd used GC who is a fine dramatic actress and very funny and taken off the helmet and given her some scenes, I'd feel differently, but she was a useless Boba Fett wannabe "character" so I hope she's good and dead

 

She is dead and since they seemed intent on not developing her in the slightest, I hope she remains that way. She had fans despite the writers ignoring her. The Finn Phasma fight was an underwhelming undercard before we even saw the movie, what showed up on the screen was so anti-climatic there were arguably no winners. She is dead, let her remain dead. One of the worst neglect of a character ever IMO.

I'm surprised Snoke hired her back!

 

Phasma has got to be one of the most disappointing character in all of Star Wars. The Phasma novel set her character up perfectly as someone who was willingly to do anything to survive and should not be messed with.

And what do they do with her? Give her even less screen time than the Force Awakens and presumably kill her off. At least they could have let her chase and interact with Finn and Rose on Canto Bight before their fight. Even if Phasma could come back I’m not sure I would want her to. They would probably underutilize her again for a third time.

 

I've just watched the movie for the second time this evenning and the Finn x Phasma kinda of get better.
Visually is.very beatiful. And when Finn hit her right in her face we can see Phasma falling in slow.motion, shot that I really liked. Also I liked how she said to him "FN 2187".

 

She only interacted with Hux. Not Kylo and SNOKE.

We saw in her comic how she got back into Hux's good graces.

 

My pet theory is that the Phasma scene in TLJ would have been great if we hadn't known she was returning. If we went in thinking she died in TFA, her reappearance would have been a cool surprise with no expectations attached.

But as it is, yeah. One of the more underused characters for sure--although, to be fair, having about as much screen time as Boba Fett.

 

I hope this is correct, however I recall someone saying this is all that's left of the resistance.
