Official Finn Episode VIII thread

I ponder this question all the time. If Rey is to succeed Luke, Poe is to succeed Leia and Kylo is to succeed Snoke, who is Finn supposed to succeed? With those three young characters having pretty well-defined future roles, where exactly does Finn fit into all of this? Finn in relation to Poe is especially confusing to me. He's supposed to be more important than Poe yet it's Poe not Finn in position to succeed the legacy/mentor character. Now I know people can say that he doesn't need to succeed anyone, which I agree with. But if you're (producers) going to go that route, you can't simply place him in a lower position than them, especially Poe, and expect anyone to take you seriously when you keep saying he's a central main character. This is why I've maintained that if he's not to be a part of the Force plot, he needs to have his own thing that's not under the authority of the Resistance.

 

This is all based on assumptions. Rey is not where Luke was at this time. She's beyond that, so that's not a good comparison. Poe is just holding the fort. I don't see him having anything major to do in the story. Rey is with Luke on another planet. How does that fit into the DJ character? How does Rey fit in with the splicer? She fits into neither. Rian Johnson isn't that talented of a writer. There are only a few places you can go with the story, and funny thing about it is, some have figured it out over a year ago. The new trailer confirms it even more.

Magic works by distraction. Showing one hand, but never seeing the other. They put a lot in our face, but at the same time showed nothing.

 

I've pondered this a lot too. My answer is at the bottom.

But first if you look at the PT and OT in sequential order.

Luke is taking over what Anakin should have, before he went off the rails.

Leia is in a similar position to Padme. Princess compared to a elected Queen.
But now she's doing what Padme should have done until she was killed unexpectedly. Leia involved in and one of the prime movers of the rebellion.

Han though, as a scoundrel, was a new thing compared to the prequel trilogy.
He does not take over from Obi Wan but is a completely new element in Star Wars (compared to PT).


So my guess is, they see Finn as a completely new element in the ST.
And he's not completing a legacy like the other guys.


This is just my guess. Don't take it as concrete.

I think some fans have different definitions of what makes a "main" character. When JJ called John he told him, "Your the star of the new SW." The formula has always been a big three and a primary antagonists and their associated entourages.

Anakin-Obi-Padme vs Maul, Dooku, Sidious
Han, Leia, Luke vs Vader
Rey, Finn, Poe vs Kylo

 

Explain to us what they figure out over a year ago? So we call can be on the same page.

 

Put it this way. Finn is special.

 

Random thought: I wonder if Finn will turn out to be a Mandalorian....Boba and Jango Fett always seemed like fringe characters but they were extremely popular in both trilogies and we haven't seen one yet in this trilogy. Also I think Finns path is new and he is mot following in anyones footsteps ( Luke, Leia, Han, etc) and that is intentional.

 

What if Rey turns to the dark side and Finn is like "Rey you're breaking my heart!!"

 

At that point I leave the theater!

 

That was a problem from the start, Poe was never a "big 3" because he was supposed to die. The marketing purposely presented it that way because they didn't want us to know Kylo Ren was going to be an actual character (although almost everyone speculated he was a Solo/Skywalker). In actuality the ST's big 3 are Rey, Finn and Kylo with Poe orbiting as a Wedge (but bigger) sort. Kylo falls in as both a main character and the antagonist which makes the ST characters tricky to compare directly to the past main characters.

Jango wasn't a Mandalorian. He claimed to be from Concord Dawn but he been confirmed to not actually be Mandolorian.

 

Guess what Finn and Rose are Riding on? Does that look like Finn holding a lightsaber also the bottom the picture his jacket sleeve?
