Official Finn Episode VIII thread

now we're saying finn is immune to the force. Folks...finn was a red herring for rey. Thats all. They're scrambling to find something for him to do from this point on, but don't expect anything grand. Maybe you'll be surprised, but its unlikely. That goofy comic is the central element of his character. Goofy. Make the audience smile with his endearing goofiness. Oh he's so funny and harmless.

 

We're speculating that it's possible. If they were really scrambling to find something for him to do, being a resistant to the Force at least gives him a plausible avenue to fight along side/against Force Users having had no training as a Jedi.

 

Glad I'm not the only one who sees this. They replaced him with Kylo....thats it. Sad and funny to see people trying to come up with something for the character. They can't kill him off because of the diversity quota so he'll still be there till Ep 9. Good old human Finn, bravely serving the Force users.

Won't be surprised if there's a scene where Kylo kisses Rey and Finn looks on approvingly. Then people will be like "Oh look he's so nice, he even forgave Kylo!!" Maybe he can also be the page boy for their wedding. Good ol' nice guy Finn. We all know nice guys finish first. Don't miss the tickets for December folks!

 

I'm just saying that we shouldn't get expectations high. If finn remains the "lovable oaf", then its gonna feel like we're being trolled. After what happened with TFA's marketing vs the film, I half expect him to get bodied by phasma in under 8 seconds. That way, if we get something cool, it'll be a pleasant surprise.

 

if they mess up with Finn in the Last Jedi. I won't watch the episode 9. Finn is the only Finn I like about the new trilogy. Since they killed Han. If they want to redeem Kylo, i won't accept it either. The guy killed his own father among some others. But no, you don't redeem someone like him.
Rey was interesting, but as soon she became the instant jedi who was too gifted in tfa , it annoyed me, now that she is a jedi god . It's way too much for my taste.
Luke looked wasted, used and abused and afraid ( I hope i'm wrong ) it really displease me too.

only finn matters too me now. If they butcher him. I'm done.

 

You lost me when you said Finn was actually in promotional material. LOL.

Most of what you said are from Boyega interviews not the promotional material, of which Finn is barely in.

 

If he is lovable clumsy comic relief with spurts of action, I think most of us will be done. My speculation is just hope, Force Resistance would represent a marginal demonstration of creativity and breaking away from the mold while still staying true to Star Wars lore. Do I think they'll actually do it? No. It's been my experience that the wild speculation on Star Wars boards tends to be more imaginative and creative than the actual movies. So I don't expect to see Force Resistance... but it was interesting to speculate (plus there are questions that need to be answered still, like what is happening that Finn keeps getting over on people.

He tricked Kylo in the Comic book
He breezed past the other guards when he broke Poe out
He easily coaxed Phasma to take down the shields (albeit he did have a blaster)

In the end maybe they never explain this, or maybe they make it so it's not Force related. I have learned not to get my expectations up based on marketing, but a lot of what we're talking about isn't marketing. But also, a lot of what we're talking about is board speculation, and the movies always play it far more safe so, your point is well taken.

 

if Finn remains to be tool's character to make Rey and every others star wars character cooler. I'll be angry for sure.

Artorias is a Legends planet but a lot of Legends things are canonised.

I'm pessimistic today. Rose looks up to him doesn't mean, she won't be presented smarter than him and more capable than him.

 

He was mishandled in TFA, badly. Truthfully so was Phasma, and (to let me tell it) having Luke do a line-less cameo made absolutely no sense to me. I'd have just as soon not seen him in any promo material whatsoever. But for those of us who really were excited by what Finn might represent, the mishandling of his character is only intensified by:

1. Not having the most central question to his character addressed in the next movie
2. The elevation of the antagonist as a protagonist and the reduced presence of Finn in major marketing material (Teaser, Teaser poster, Official Poster, NY Times Interview, VF interview)
3. The seeming lack of creativity in his proposed storyline (Under cover mission? Really)
4. The focus of Phasma as his rival who is equally under-developed, un-established, un-remarkable, and secondary to the main actors

I could keep on going but I don't think it's necessary or useful. I just want to keep pointing out that the angst/discontent is multi-faceted and the fact that Finn was integral to the plot doesn't really assuage any of that (especially of those of us who remember how integral Jar Jar Binks was to Episode I. Plot integration really isn't a good measure of how well the character is portrayed and received to us)

Part of me wishes he'd stayed with the FO. Their uniform looks so bloody good on him

 

She did hold off Kylo from getting BB-8 inn Takodona. And she allowed Han and Chewie to get into the Starkiller building to plant the bombs.

But anyway. Rian finally talked about Finn in the usatoday interview today along with other characters.

And it looks like DJ will be with Finn and Rose in disguise.
