Official Luke Skywalker Episode VIII Discussion Thread

well that's for a debate elsewhere lol, but one would hope that someone isn't viewed as strange because of relationship status.

a fantasy setting is just that.. a fantasy setting, and in a galaxy of different worlds, species and mystical force users.. relationship stuff shouldn't really be compared to the daily soap opera stuff that happens in our real corner of the universe.

in saying that..

deep down i still hope that Luke did find love after ROTJ, and that he did marry and have children. I'm a parent, and whilst the death star may have been destroyed, Sidious killed and Anakin redeemed... a happy ending for me would have been Luke finding love and raising a family. That is my real life happy ending and i wish it for everyone.

how they write that in after what we learned in TFA is beyond me, and my hopes are fading.

He will be an Obi Wan copy not Yoda.

 

I know it is heresy but I hope Luke does not use a lightsaber in VIII. I want to see him bulldoze the Knights of Ren with nothing but the Force. It will be a new kind of combat we have not seen before in a movie and it will look so much more badass imo.

 

I'd rather not see a super Luke

 

A few more points to consider for arguing a limited use of powers:

• Although powerful in the Force, Luke's most famous acheivement was the result of not fighting.

• Jedi have to reconcile use of Force for knowledge and defence with a (narrative) need to seek confrontation with enemies likely to result in violence!

• Use of Force presents dangers to Light side users. It sometimes results in exerting power over others, can risk pride, arrogance and hubris, and might expose the Force user to temptation they may not otherwise encounter.

i know what Luke's character means to you @nightangel, and my own feelings are probably not too far behind.

there was a reason that the good guys wanted to find him, and a reason the bad guys are worried about them finding him.

you can have all of my credits if i'm wrong (hopefully @Wuher doesn't see that else i'll be committed to it ) .. but Luke will not die in episode 8, and he will join the fight against Snoke and the First Order. the audience will physically cheer in the theaters when he lights that Green saber and shows us his old skills (and maybe some new ones).

trust me bro

 

I can't imagine Luke or Leia going to Snoke's side, is completely out of character.
About deaths: probably we will see someone important dying just in IX, Han's death still is recently and Star Wars isn't that dark. Too many deaths in a short time makes the public insensitive "oh another person died? Okay..." (Game of Thrones is different because is too dark and the violence tended to serve a narrative purpose).
