I’ve been thinking a lot about our good old friend, Luke’s lightsaber, Greenie lately.

Quick thought: we know that Kylo’s kyber crystal in his lightsaber is fractured/cracked, but what if this was originally Luke’s kyber crystal, which Kylo “bled”?

I mean, think about it this way: if Disney and Lucasfilm wants to kick this into high gear and virtually guarantee a $220 million+ domestic opening weekend, then you show a closing shot of a trailer which depicts a robot hand, Greenie hilt in hand, before we hard cut o black and hear it ignite, before the title card comes out. Instead, we’ve seen and heard nothing about Greenie in this film.

It’s possible that Kylo has what remains of Vader’s kyber (if his lightsaber is what the Acolytes of the Beyond really bought in Aftermath and they went through with their plan to destroy it), but likewise, we only have two lightsabers in rotation: Kylo’s and Rey’s (or, as I still prefer to reference it as, at least for now: the Skywalker Legacy lightsaber). Perhaps it’s a part of some big second or third act surprise, but would revealing that he still has his lightsaber really be that big of a deal?

So, yeah, what I’m suggesting is that Ben might have stolen Luke’s lightsaber and “bled” it, before a battle ensued, during which the kyber crystal broke. Kylo held onto his half, using it in the construction of his red lightsaber, and I guess Luke would hold onto his too. Or, perhaps, it was broken and then became corrupted by Kylo?

Either way, I think it would be an interesting dynamic to set up: Rey with the Legacy lightsaber which Ben still sorely wants, and Kylo with all that remains of Luke’s lightsaber (which would also be comparable to the situation like how the crystal represents Kylo: Ben is supposedly all that remains of Luke’s failed attempt at rebuilding the Jedi Order).

Just a quick thought
