I think their is NO doubt that McGregor is the one to return as Obi-Wan, no doubt about it. I wouldn't even doubt that it was in the contract, it would be off the hook. Obi-Wan and a Han Solo/Chew spinoff would be awesome. Alot of ppl say we got alot from Clone Wars, but not everyone watched Clone wars.

 

IF that was the case, I don't believe that it would happen ON Tattooine. Tattooine would be shown, probably to bookend the film, but the imagery of Tattooine is too boring for a fight. And Kenobi wouldn't reveal himself in an EPIC fight. I think that It would be so much cooler if they fought again in the hangar on Naboo, which is why Leia can easily sense Maul's presence on Naboo so easily after over 50-SOMETHING years, even though she's not a fully-trained Jedi.

 

If this isn't a KENOBI movie, & we end up wasting the great actor we have --- Ewan McGregor, when he's in his prime --- I think we've done a disservice to the whole Star Wars universe.

While they're making a Han Solo movie with some unknown actor likely, we have the actor who PLAYED Obi-Wan Kenobi who would be perfect for the role, & is open to returning!

The story would likely take place from Episode 3-4, & Ewan McGregor has aged since Episode 3, & would be the PERFECT age to fulfill this role. They can also color his hair as time progresses.

I think this would be perfect & is absolutely necessary.

EDIT:

The film can in addition to chronicling the comings & goings on Tatooine, elaborate on the Force, Obi-Wan's meditation, his communication with Qui-Gon from beyond, his knowledge & understanding of the Force, & the new skills he acquires.

 

Hat about Kenobi WITH A Cigar ?

 

Maybe he picks up smoking while in exile. That'd be fine. But they have to make the movie first.

 

Hopefully some death sticks as well .

 

And they could, you know, retcon that whole forgetting R2 thing. And tie up a few other loose ends.

 

Couldn't agree more. A stand alone Kenobi movie with Ewan could be one of the high points of this current generation of movies. He's such a great actor, and physically more than capable, and TFA has now set a very high standard for this series I think it could be very special. He did some great acting on the PT despite acting to a green screen rather than another human or real environments for large parts of it. Imagine how good he'd be in a largely practical acting environment.

Sure, Boba Fett is great but I don't think there's a need for his own movie, and uh sorry but screw Mace Windu.

Get this movie going!

 

Don't forget Darth Maul is technically still alive canonically. Would love to see another showdown with the Qui Gon force ghost helping in some capacity

 

Would love this movie, anything else is a stretch. The key is not making it a movie about him watching over Luke all the time: 100% sand planet. Could get interesting in tying up loose ends at another Jedi temple, or perhaps an end to the Kanan story line. Exploring the force in depth works be amazing.

There's reference in the OT to Old Ben's crazy adventures, this is the movie to explore them. He clearly knows how to negotiate to get off planet undetected, and that opens up him being able to go anywhere. (Even degobah)

 

He didn't forget R2. I feel it was more he wasn't showing all his cards because, it would have lead Luke to ask more questions and could lead R2 revealing a thing or two about Anakin to soon. Recall he says "I don't remember ever owning a droid". So more ... like poor R4. Haha

Definitely feel they should tie up the loose end of how Uncle Owen thought Anakin shouldn't get involved in the Clone War, though. Unless it was all lies at this point to protect Luke but, feel this could be a nice add on and maybe a discussion between the two about reasons Anakin/Vader wouldn't come back to return to Tatooine for reasons other then him not liking sand and this could lead to why Owen thinks "that wizard is just a crazy old man". Some of it's better left unexplained, though.

 

I am all in for Kenobi. He is such a great character. He referred to himself in a New Hope as once being a Jedi Knight. That one statement opens up so many possibilities, especially if he turns out to be Rey's grandfather. I want to know more about Ben Kenobi, I know a lot about ObiWan Kenobi.

 

TOTALLY AGREE! An Obi Wan movie with Ewan McGreggor is much more compelling than some of the other ideas floating around out there. Yes, even more so than a Boba Fett film. Let's have Fett face off against our favorite Nerfherder in the Han Solo movie! THAT would be fun! -Gorth

 

They did retcon this in a new novel or something. Obi-Wan says to R2 when Luke is messing with C3PO that he was sorry for not admitting to recognizing him.

I'd prefer if they veered away from known characters completely. It's a big universe. Explore it!

 

I agree, and I wonder what's there to tell about a Jedi Knight who's in hiding? Instead of filling those holes, they should show us more character to fall in love with.

 

would love seeing this film, Ewan was great as Obi in the prequel trilogy, which is no mean feat considering how ropey some of the dialogue was, i'd love to see him with a decent script, would give him the chance to step out of the darkness that surrounds the prequel trilogy, and have all Star Wars fans finally love and embrace Ewans portrayal or Kenobi!
