Official Rey Episode VIII thread

That concept art was created for the scene where Rey is scrubbing junk. She was going to stare and see these people with the ship (it's still in the novelizations), and Rey's Survival Guide and Before The Awakening also have Rey thinking about or seeing people come and go off of ships at the outpost.

The final cut of the movie it was changed so that Rey sees the ship in the air in the Force vision.

 

I feel the only explanation for her being on Jakku for that long is that her parents are now dead. I would think that if they had lived after whatever possible mission they were on, they would've come back for her by TFA. I do like the idea of her really having been meant to be left with San Tekka. I had never thought of the possibility, but it makes sense. I'm anxious to find out who her parents are/were...mainly just so everyone can drop the whole Skywalker bit. That has never made any sense to me since my first watching of TFA. I also want to see how she develops as a Force User. Kylo Ren is already very strong in the force, despite not having finished his training. His ceiling is very high. I can only imagine hers is much much higher. She isn't my favorite character in this trilogy, but obviously her arc and progression are vital to the story. Call her a Mary Sue if you like, but we're still going to pay to go watch her. She's easily my favorite SW hero (in canon), behind Jedi Knight Ani.

 

If Rey's father is confirmed in TLJ I'll write you a treatise on why I was so darned wrong.

i would say so... mainly because of the back pack she has on.

can't see them leaving a ruck-sac on her for any other type of scene in the movie where she'd have the saber lit.

Entertainment Tonight - D23 Interview with Daisy Ridley



Daisy Ridley: "It's not the success thing [of The Force Awakens], it's the understanding [of] how the [Rey] character has connected with people, 'cause for me it's like the little girl thing of like parents saying, 'Now I can take my little girl to a film and be sure that what she's watching is right for her.' I know that sort of - the weight of that. So I just want to make sure that people are continuing to connect with her in that way."

Daisy Ridley: "Yeah [those questions from The Force Awakens are going to be answered]! Some of them will be answered. Things are answered, but I think people are still gonna be like, 'Uhh what's gonna happen next?'

 

Daisy's talked several times about Rey being a role model for little girls.

It's interesting - I feel that belonging and especially family for Rey likely ties into how the character has always been intended by LFL to be viewed.

It reminds me how Frozen, despite being a Disney Princess movie, focused on the theme of sisterly love. The theme for Rey is friendship-love but especially something more directly familial, imo, which is very universally appealing, especially to kids. Reminds me of Lilo and Stitch for some reason, actually.
