Official Rey Episode VIII thread

Dannnng lol. Thank you. I appreciate that internal hype being tempered quickly.

 

I jokingly said this the other day but now I'm wondering if this will make sense (and satisfy the audience's head canon).

I really don't think Rey is Luke's daughter... but I am beginning to believe that she is still a Skywalker and that there are other branches of the Skywalkers out there and what will Luke will discover is that she is family (thus contextualizing his commentary that the Force was strong in his family). That way if they kill off Luke without de facto giving him a child, they haven't cut off the bloodline, and it explains how the family she was waiting on was never coming back, but there was someone that could still serve as family (figuratively and literally). Rey isn't going to be adopted into the Skywalker bloodline, she IS in the Skywalker bloodline, just a different branch and not Luke's daughter.

 

I've thought of that beofre and posted about it long ago, so it's possible and that's why maybe her real parents won't matter much in the grand scheme of things. But I was hoping that she had at least one noble parent, no matter who that might be and it will be some connection whether good or bad.

 

I didn't see that post, but the fact that I'm not the only one who has thought of this leads me to believe that this may be the direction they go.

But isn't the force strong in Luke's family via the Anakin line? Since TPM said Anakin was an immaculate conception with Shmi and the force, wouldn't the force being strong in his family only be related to Anakins blood relatives?

 

I agree that there is clear messaging that because Anakin was strong in the Force so is Luke and Leia. All I'm saying is that there is nothing in the PT material that excludes the possibility Shmi isn't the first/only Skywalker, and/or that they don't have other branches of a family tree that haven't also produced a "Chosen One". That was one of the theories I toyed with: that the Skywalker family tree has branches we haven't seen and each branch occasionally produces a "Chosen One". Rey could be the "Chosen One" from another branch, and even though she wouldn't be Luke's daughter, she could still a Skywalker

 

To be fair we also know that Anakin wasn't born on Tatooine, but that he only arrived there when he was about 3.
Skywalker may be the name of an entire clan from which Shmi came from.

 

So Skywalker could be like the Knights of Ren?

This is likely a photoshoot for a magazine. But if it's for a movie, then it's likely to be for A Woman of No Importance. The costume seems to be from the period of that movie.

I'm still going with Rey being Leia's daughter. For one thing, Daisy Ridley said in an interview that she believed the answer to Rey's parentage was revealed in TFA and it's probably the one scene that would clearly prove it. Why would Leia longingly embrace a young woman she's never seen in her life?????

Also, the middle chapter is when our hero has their first defeat so what will be Rey's??
