I need a clear image of the stage before the camera moves lower to show the Stormtroopers.

Indeed. The stark, bold colors and prominent imagery suggests nothing to me other than something of fascism or radical extremism.

was just reminded that during the live panel they said that Poe was on a mission for Leia, so Leia is probably not part of the First Order by the time the movie kicks off.

The First Order = The Third Reich makes some sense... and the Third Reich was pretty well known for being artifact hunters, stealing and gathering up lots of religious and other artistic treasures. Besides, hasn't the Rebellion and the Empire been likened to WW1? Are we now on to WW2?

Just did some googling because I was curious. The most prominent thing I found about The First Order is pretty important. It's a book titled, Knights of The First Order, by Arthur Jackson. First off, there is more of this medieval theme that we get from Kylo Ren.

    The plot is as follows:
An aging priest is haunted by nightmares of the sack of Jerusalem and the fear of losing the priceless talisman he possesses. His sudden and brutal murder and the disappearance of the artifact set in motion events that will shake the pillars of the modern world. In present day Washington State, Professor Kathy Allison s meeting with a wealthy alumnus of her university to examine a mysterious artifact recently discovered in China, plunges her and her teenage daughter into a nightmare of death and terror. They are saved by the timely intervention of James Ellis, who has come to examine the same artifact. The artifact is a puzzle that will lead to answers the world is not ready to hear. Even though they have known each other only a short while, a connection is developing between Ellis and Allison. Even as their feelings for each other increase, the pressures of the puzzle pushes them ever forward. The search for answers leads to Germany, Bosnia, the Himalayas, and finally to the remote reaches of South America and a confrontation that will decide the fate of humanity. Just when James Ellis believes the situation is finally resolved, a final twist is added, with the arrival of a mysterious package addressed to him, to the DEVCON offices. The secrets revealed in its contents will change much of world history. While trying to work his way through this new treasure, Ellis comes face-to-face with the true enemy. This new evil lurks right around the corner.

There is also this plot involving various artifacts. The mysterious package they mention could be Luke's lightsaber, which we've heard has stored information. Haven't read the book, so I can't elaborate. I just thought this was a great connection.

Also found this, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_in_Council, Order in Council, which is law in the name of the queen (Leia? Phasma??). I doubt it this one. But I figured I'd throw it in.

Also there is this site that popped up: http://thefirstorder.enjin.com/home/m/1544323/tag/Knights+of+The+First+Order

Very third reich-looking indeed. Red flag, shadowy figure at the middle of the stage... Whereas I used to imagine TFA would portray events similar to those who have occured during the Cold War (no direct conflict, guerilla), I'm now leaning towards it showing something similar to the early days of Nazi Germany (1933-1938): a "New Order", precisely. Slaughtering (burning village), search for artifacts (Hitler was heavily into that), damn even that frame in the teaser made me think of the Nazi congress in Nuremberg.

The question I have is this: who would Hitler be? Uber (Serkis)? Kylo (Driver)?

I wonder if the whole First Order vs. Resistance turns about to be a triviality once whatever will awaken actually awakens. Then maybe they have to join forces to fight a REAL evil. Like in TPM, Trade Federation vs. Naboo. Ok, not a perfect comparison.

good thinking but from my point of view star wars universe is more "open" and free than in a cold war nuclear disaster context. its more overt than secret and it would be too specific and therefore limit the story if we started using modern military words and what not . im only talking about the cold war reference of course and not ww2

I think it all depends on the music playing at the time NGC. Just look at how much fun this parade is!

It's only slightly horrifying now. >_>

The T-70 X-wing "Resistance Fighter" is mounted on a blue Alliance Starbird instead of the traditional red one used be the Rebel Alliance.
    That is not by accident.

Poe has a Red one on his helmet in this picture. If you look into the cockpit above, you can see his helmet in the T-70[IMG]

I remember there was a thread a while back that said that Han Luke and Leia haven't been in contact with each other for a long time. Let's speculate here and say the "First Order" was able able to rally the Imperial remnants and defeat the Rebel Alliance after ROTJ and the trio go into exile. Leia however begins organizing a "Resistance" force but changes the color of the Starbird to Blue.

    tumblr_nmwv1cHHUx1u0nxk0o1_400.png
The black and orange X-Wing is the original T-65 model

    Image_1676 copy.JPG
The Alliance White and Red T-65 (observe the paint job)

I don't think Poe was always Rebel/Resistance. I think he was just a BAMF trying to take down the Imps/Order by himself (which is why his T-65 is painted black and orange to show he's not affiliated with any faction) until he is contacted by Leia and is swayed into joining her Resistance. Poe being the hot headed ace that he already was becomes the equivalent of Rouge Leader. As Rouge leader he pilots the Resistance T-70 but they won't let him paint it so he rocks the black and red helmet because he has to stand out.

    Didn't realize that Poe's X-wing was a T-65! Good observation!

Hey everybody! I hope you all enjoyed the new teaser as much as I did!! In one shot from the second teaser we see a massive Imperial "ceremony". I noticed the huge red curtain with the imperial emblem in the back round. It appears to me that something very sizable and important enough to warrant such an event is about to be unveiled. Your thoughts!

    1. Graduation day for fresh recruits at the Academy?
    2. Unveiling and presentation of the new superweapon?
      or
    3. The final shot of the film. Much like ANH but instead of Princess Leia -- you know things are going from bad to worse.
