And let's not also forget Padme dying of a broken heart over losing Anakin despite the fact that she had just given birth to two children that could have used a mother.

    It's Science Fantasy.

People drop dead for artistic reasons!

Obi-Wan believes Luke to be the Chosen One because Anakin was a failure. Anakin is the Chosen One. George Lucas and people from Lucasfilm have repeatedly said as much. It's just AT THIS POINT IN TIME Obi-Wan believes Luke is the Chosen One because in Obi and Yoda's belief Anakin/Vader was beyond redemption.

The first words of my sentiments! I liked the tone, pacing, the Kendo-esque fight, and way OB1 was portrayed.

Sure it wasn't necessary to bring Maul, Obi-Wan and Tatooine into the Rebels franchise and there were plenty of valid concerns about how things close to fans hearts could be butchered. In the end I think TPTB took a risk and executed it well. Lets hope they continue to tackle such tricky issues like Obi-Wan did - with tact and grace.

As to the chosen one claim, it is a prophecy and as such must be vague and rely on subjective validation. I guess a lot of people had a hand in the destruction of the Sith and both Luke and Anakin might technically be considered "chosen ones". Always in motion the future is - maybe The Force needs contingincies too! ;)

This was one of the most beautifully directed pieces of 22 min animated shows I've ever seen.

The fight was exactly as it should have been.
it highlighted the mastery Kenobi has by dismantling Maul the manner in which he did, while Maul wrecked shop on everyone else.

That sounds pretty likely. I didn't notice this before but Obi Wan gave Chopper a pat on the head and the way Chopper responded to him during his conversation with Ezra seemed to imply some sort of trust.

Not trying to spam posts, but man, I really liked that ending. The fight to the final shot.
    Perfect shot for Rebels.

Kinda wished they saved that for the series finale.

Watch rebels recon to understand and get a breakdown of the fight! I didnt even catch that Maul used the same moves on Kenobi as he did on Qui Gon.

Adding to the sadness, Qui Gon and Maul both died in Obi-Wan's arms talking about the Chosen One. :(

Watched it a few more times, and it's definitely one of those that requires a handful of viewings (for me it was three) to truly enjoy and understand exactly what LFL was going for.

Sam Witwer and Stephen Stanton voice acted this thing to Mustafar and back, they were brilliant. And the score! Seriously, some of the music on Tatooine is up there amongst my favourites in Rebels, and I think I've liked all of the pieces so far. Kevin Kiner knocked this one out of the park.

This feels like the Rebels episode equivalent of the TFA soundtrack: it takes multiple viewings/listenings to truly understand the depth in the actions and words played out by our characters, and there are so many visual callbacks to the OT and PT that I'm amazed no-one's gone on to call this one cliché yet (I know I certainly won't be).

What a way to wrap up season three, the last few episodes have knocked it out of the park in ways that I think only later seasons of TCW managed to all those years ago and I'm struggling to see how Zero Hour won't further that. Roll on Zero Hour next week, and Thrawn and the Celebration panels next month!

Furthermore, Obi-Wan chose to die to protect who he believed to be the Chosen One (as I said before though, I certainly think the certainty in how he responds to Maul's question certainly gives purpose to the debate as to who the Chosen One is) and Anakin, the Chosen One, dies redeemed and fulfilling - somewhat - the prophecy in the arms of Luke, again, who Obi-Wan believed to be the Chosen One.

    Something, something, poetry, right? ;)

I feel like Obi-Wan and Yoda stay in contact through the Force. We know that Yoda is able to project his conscious and communicate with even complete strangers as long as they are in places strong with the Force. I imagine that with Obi-Wan's own strength, and his closeness to Luke that he serves as somewhat of a portable radio for Yoda to occasionally send information to. Obviously doing this too often would be dangerous as it could draw the attention of Palpatine, but we know from the show that at least Yoda considers Ezra to be a candidate for defeating the Sith and thus I think he'd communicate that to Obi-Wan.

On the Chosen One, I think the Story Group may be throwing around different hypothesis just to make it a bit of a mystery, and that they perhaps plan to never answer the question just to keep the curiosity of that line alive. This ties into my greater opinion that the fandom too often leans on Obi-Wan as Gospel when it comes to commenting on the force. Obi-Wan is repeatedly shown to have a flawed point of view on several occasions. Him lying to Luke about Vader nearly cost the Jedi their last hope, and fueled Luke's inner Dark Side. Furthermore he felt convinced that Anikan would never turn back to the light in ROTJ, and that is also proven wrong.

That was an awesome episode. I too have grown to really love Obi-Wan and he has become one of my favorite characters. This episode continued to do that. My appreciation of the character has come from a combination of the PT and Clone Wars portrayals as well as my own aging and maturing. This may be my favorite Rebels episode.

In my opinion, the animation of this episode was by far the best yet for Rebels. Witwer once again brings so much life to Maul even in his death. Stanton was fantastic as Kenobi. The final duel was wonderfully simplistic in style.

As far as the prophecy of the Chosen One, I believe Kenobi believes it is Luke. Prophecies in the genre of fantasy works are often very vague and left to interpretation. They also can change given the choices those in the prophecy make. That can be true in this case as well.

The last episode really fell flat for me but this one got Season 3 back on track. My only concern is that the season finale may just have been overshadowed.

Obie had full control of the situation through Force mastery. Excellent and perfect fight. He was in Mauls mind, time and space.

I love love love this episode.

    What worked
    1) Obi Wan only on screen for a few minutes... Less is always more and allows for mystery that hopefully we'll get in a new trilogy at some point

    2) The death sequence. I was surprised but moved at the way Obi took him out. As I think more about it... Obi was perhaps the greatest skill fighter with a lightsaber... Just think he defeated maul twice, Anakin, and really defeated Anakin again by becoming one with the Force

    What didn't work
    1) Kahnan...I feel his character is filler lately and serves no purpose...I wish he would have told Ezra to go out served as a mentor...I almost feel at times as if Hera is more of Ezra's mentor...

    2) Desert scenes great but the wandering thing was a waste of story time...

    3) Let Chopper bite the dust please
