The point of view doesn't matter. We had numrous point of views in the SW canon. Rey isn't just better as someone but better as EVERYONE. That is the problem. Rey is an irregularity compared to everyone else and this is exactly why I have an issue with her character developement.

    Anakin was an irregularity (allegedly).

    How well-trained was Kylo Ren?

If the Force is like God, yes it does make sense.

That's why I said if. It could also be that someone else created Anakin, and that's why it's up for interpretation. But there are some things that simply do not need explanation, while others do.

This is exactly what I mean. Anakin was deliberately created to be an irregularity and not even he did display such an impressive use of telekinesis. Even in life threatening situations (maximum motivation) and even after years of training at the acandemy we never saw him crush a part of the arena on Geonisis to espace or levitate a massive bubble of Lava to hurt Obi Wan. Rey however is specifically established to be a nobody. She is a Kit Fisto, a Kanan Jarrus, an Ashoka Tano. So why is she massively powerful for no reason whatsoever.

To equal Kylo Ren, especially if the Force has volition or a need to return to some sort of balance.

I think what bothers me at least is the lack of consistency. The concept of a "virgin birth" while many would assume is a rip off from christianity is actually a common denominator among most of earth's religions and mythologies, it's inclusion in the saga helps to cement the mysticism of the force and it also establishes the fact that though the force might act on it's own volition it follows rules. If the force can simply imbue anyone with the potential of the chosen one, then why would it go through all that travel with Anakin? Why couldn't it just grant that power to any of the thousands of existing jedi or any other person already born?
I think many of the problems that people have with the idea of "virgin birth" or midichlorians established in the prequels are rooted on the false dichotomy affecting our modern society in regards to science and religion. The concept of miracle or magic does not need to be at odds with science, many believe this phenomena can be perfectly explained in a scientific way but it is just far beyond our current capabilities.

Yeah, it got muddy in '99, which still affects us today.

I would actually love to find out if there are any comparative religion people in the Lucasfilm offices. Gary Kurtz used his comparative religion textbooks when the original and ESB were developed. Complicating the Force only makes the audience moving in very individualistic and varied interpretations aaand....now we're here trying to apply those varied "rules" to a franchise that is 40 years old and expanded to novels, comics, and cartoons with different "rules" via their different mediums. The "rules", are more like "guidelines". (Yes, I just referenced another Disney film :))

Which are very solid points indeed and further proves why some things don't need explanations. But others do.

That being said, there's nothing wrong with Rey having tremendous power in the Force. Just like with characters such as Yoda and Mace Windu, it's entirely possible for the Force to be more powerful in some individuals than others. But first and foremost, neither Yoda or Mace are the main characters undergoing the hero's journey - in film theory they are actually paragon characters who are there to serve as instructors to the main character. They are established as being older, more wise and experienced. The problem with Rey is that she is already very experienced and knows how to use her gifts without any explanation.

Thought about that and the idea doesn't hold up. Remember the imbalance in the force when Yoda died in ROTJ? Luke vs Vader and Palpatine. If the force literally caused a powerup depending on the imbalances then Luke would have to be granted superhero like powers to fight his enemies. These whole "light rises to meet dark" must not be taken literally. In the PT Palpatine should have been able to crush a whole planet using telekinesis if an imbalance in the force would literally lead to a powerup. I mean 2 Sith vs 10.000 Jedi. If the force even boosts Rey In TLJ when she could already defeat Kylo in TFA then how massive would the powerboost be in situations of imbalance the likes of what we saw in the OT and PT.

There's no reason it could not be both.

Palpatine was powerful, but was his power necessarily a physical power when Anakin fails and Luke is born?

Luke's heroism as a legend and champion of the light to bring balance wasn't based on his physical power. The physical was never the point of the Force, or the Star Wars mythology.

Well then your gf didn't pay enough attention when watching the OT. In the OT Palpatine says "the son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi". If heritage isn't a factor then why point out the danger of the Skywalker bloodline? A little bit later in the trilogy Vader confronts his son who refuses to join the dark side. Vader then mentions if Luke doesn't join then maybe his sister will. Vader obviously expects her to be forcesensitive too because she is a member of the Skywalker bloodline and he is correct, Leia is indeed a forcesensitive.

Well maybe Jedi were a frequent random occurence in the universe during the time of the Empire you might say? Well obviously not. Han, who has travelled arround quite a bit states that he has never met anyone who has the force. Tarkin states that Vader is the last of his "religion". So forceusers are extremely rare (a concept the PT explains in detail) but Anakin and all of his offspring have the force including his only grandson! So everyone in the skywalker bloodline starting with Anakin has the force. It is obvious that Lucas intended the force to be passed on over generations even if one part of the parents is not a forceuser (Padme, Solo). So of course fans will focus on bloodlines and Rian shouldn't act so surprised that fans expected Rey to be a somebody rather than a nobody!

Let's see what Luke has to say about it:
The Force is strong in my family, my father had it, I have it, my sister has it. You have that power too.

I think Canon Department should explaining to people this:

This is post Balance era of the Force.
Many millenia long era in which Force was subjugated to many individuals, even institution of Jedi order, and the Sith,is now free of stagnation.Force now acts directly, providing its will to balance itself emediately, thus "acting"in balancing way emediately.
Rey's power is reaction to Kylo Ren's ,and Snoke's Dark power while Luke disconected from the Force willingly.

Its raw strenght unseen before.Luke's words.

We will have to agree to disagree then. Take singing for example. There are plenty of people with extremely talented voices with no training whatsoever. Their voices many times are better then those who have had training. Getting voice lessons will make them even better. Bringing this back to Rey. She is naturally strong in the Force. She was introduced to the Force (going back to your Beethoven example) first by Maz and then when Kylo used it on her. Once she is trained she will be even better and more capable. She has not reached her full potential. She is just like the singer with a great natural voice who is better than many who have had training but can become exceptional with training and honing of her natural ability.

Yeah but not by a power boost that increases their forceabilities but with clever strategy. It also took them over a 1000 years so why is the force reacting so quickly all of a sudden in the ST?
    --- Double Post Merged, Dec 30, 2017, Original Post Date: Dec 30, 2017 ---
I agree. That's exactly why the logic that Rey must be so powerful in her forceabilities because she is at a disadvantage is flawed and not a solid explaination for her unnaturally strong powers

Why did it react so slowly before?
Because they story needed it to.

The force reacts exactly as the story needs it to. It always has. It always will.
    It's never been a constant.
It changed in just about every movie, trilogy to trilogy.

Gosh, how can you continue to believe this? This is also not true. There are no natural born singers who are able to sing perfectly without any practice at all. Singing is also the worst example you could make, since singing requires no equipment except for your own voice. All of those extremely talented unknown voices did have practice - they've practiced at home, in the shower, in front of the TV, in front of the mirror, listening to their favorite singers and therefore picking up the right tones and melody. Even then, they are far from fully trained, just go watch any season of American Idol and you'll find plenty of amazing singers who made it past the auditions, but later got mocked by the judges because their singing just didn't hold up.

This has gone a bit too OT now, but I just can't accept posts like the ones above.
