Rey's Love Interest?

i just see loneliness. the desire to connect to someone like him.
and in context of the novel, his offer to train her is more a desire to protect her than use her.
he knows Snoke will hurt him through her, and hurt her as well.
if he can make her an ally, he thinks he can save them both.

 

I mean, who wouldn't be, if they're being hunted by a monster in a mask?




Another quote from the script:

Kylo Ren stops, considers her... then reaches up, unlatches and REMOVES HIS MASK. Rey reacts, stunned. It takes a moment before she regains her own mask of defiance.

 

I think we must give a chance for Ben. There must be some reason which has turned him so fragile and mentally ill. We don't really know his backstory. Maybe he had a difficult childhood, and his parents didn't give him time.

And then another perspective: if somebody, like Rey, really hates him very deeply, it is possible to turn love in some time. I mean if you have some feelings toward another person it can be easier to turn from bad to good and backwards, comparing that situation you have no feelings toward some guy at all.

JJ Abrams in the audio commentary of TFA:

"But when his mask comes off, you see Adam Driver, and he just looks like a sort of prince.”

"In this scene Rey is drawn to this place (inside Maz's castle), almost like Cinderella.”




(Rey flees the castle in much the same way that Cinderella flees from the ball - running down a flight of stairs.)

"You’re probably going to have a castle, and a prince and a princess, if you’re looking at a fairy tale. We wanted to give these sort of, fundamental, not cosmetic, but, sort of, prerequisite elements. These locations in which we can set our new story and our new characters.”




(Rey and Kylo meet in a very fairytale-esque forest, just like the prince and the future princess in the fairy tales)

Just from the Bloodline novel, we can tell that Ben has been beset by this overwhelming dark presence that even a mother's love couldn't protect him from.
You could compare it to schizophrenia, I suppose- having a compelling voice whispering in your head since the moment you could think.
Having it be your constant companion when your parents are too busy- too important for you. Having it repeat all your insecurities back to you in your moment of doubt.

Ben fought through that for two entire decades before something finally snapped.


I'm so excited to see that moment. What drove Ben Solo mad? What made him stop fighting? What broke him enough for him to entirely give up?


People find it so easy to hate him. He's whiney. He's entitled. He's weak. He killed all those people and most of all and most damningly, he killed Han Solo, the beloved war hero, a legacy character. His own damned father.

And yet Leia believed there was good in him. Sure, she's a mother but she's also Leia fricking Organa. The woman who withstood Darth Vader's torture. This is the woman who never forgave her father, even after he was redeemed in her brother's eyes. Leia Organa is many things but forgiving and soft, she is not.

There is so much more to this broken, half-crazed loon and I cannot kriffing wait.

He is the single most nuanced character I've seen in a Star Wars movie.


Maybe this is the wrong thread to post this in but guys, I have a lot of feelings about Ben Solo and I just wanted to share it with y'all.

Looks like she won't be with Finn after all. Hollywood being Hollywood.

Won't be surprised if Reylo ends up happening. Maybe not in this trilogy but definitely in he next one.

Finn and Rose are being set up as a pair. it's very obvious from the way they're marketing them this time around. I mean, they actually played Across the Stars when Kelly Marie Tran walked on stage at the SWCO.

If Reylo happens, it'll happen in this trilogy. They're not going to carry the same characters on for the next trilogy (if they even end up making it)

From the leaks you can tell that Rey and Kylo Ren are going to be spending a whole lot of time together in the movie. Whether they're going to spend that time fighting or "otherwise" is unknown. However, there's a leak that's sort of stood the test of time from a fairly credible source that tells us of a scene where Rey and Kylo are having a conversation and Luke hates what they're saying so much that he blows up their hut.

Sounds... explosive, if ya know what I mean.

 

Well, but if change point of view, because a real mirror flips things...

 

This time it didn't work with familial love, why a Rey daughter of Luke or daughter of Leia (familial love again) would succeed and save Ben Solo?

 

Finn is clearly into Poe.

Becase some people seem to think if a woman is given a romantic storyline it means she is no longer a strong female character.

Luke was clearly into Leia in ANH. His "focus" on fighting did not over rid any desire for romance in Luke.

 

I don't know if Reylo is gonna be a thing, but I assume Kylo will somehow be romantically involved with someone durnig the trilogy- thus, why his hideous scar was replaced with a far... sexier one.

The only character he could have a "romance" with is Rey.

 

The scar wasn't moved to be sexier it was moved because it was actually a pain to try and deal with in make up and on the face. It looked silly not "epic movie scar"

 

I mean, that's possible, though I doubt they'd confirm anything but at this point. I could certainly see that ridiculous scar being a nightmare to deal with, though.

a scar on the face in makeup is absolutely cake these days--especially on this budget.
big scar or little scar, it makes no difference in application.
Driver wore a blinding bucket on his head and tripped over his costume all through TFA.
if he'd been asked to tolerate a pain-in-the-ass scar he would have done it.

yes, exactly, Johnson moved it because it looked silly.
the last thing you want from a lead who has been deliberately shot to look his most handsome, is a silly scar.

whether or not there's romance in the air, Johnson was not about to wreck Ren Ben's face, which Abrams had already done everything in his power to present as far more glamorous than Driver looks in his day clothes--and that much alone seems pretty telling.
