Should Episode VIII continue the tradition of a ship passing over the screen after the opening crawl

IMG_0420.JPG I have always loved how each movie of the OT gave us that , WOW look at the size of that ship!, intro after panning down from the opening crawl.
Episode VII continued that as well. Do you all think Rian Johnson might go a different route with this. I keep hearing and reading that he is creating a very unique Star Wars.

I think it absolutely should continue that tradition, though it isn't always about the size of the ship. Even Rogue One did it. It's just part of the storytelling style of Star Wars, IMO.

I think Rian should continue the tradition. He can still make a different type of Star Wars movie without sacrificing some traditional SW tropes/traditions/visuals.

I find it interesting that people seem to clamor for a wildly different type of SW. I would say most of us on here fell in love with SW during or closer to the original run of the OT. Then it is like we forgot about what made us fall in love with SW in the first place now that we are older. I do want to see some new and different things in these new SW movies but not at the expense of it losing the wonder and fun of the previous movies. I think writers of these movies should be able to give us new SW that still "feels" like the SW we fell in love with.

The tradition must continue. They can experiment with the anthology movies if they want, but the traditions of the episodic films need to be maintained.

I think it's fair to say that if the tradition continues, we will be starting off with the First Order in the opening scene. Otherwise, we would be starting off directly on Anch-To. I don't think it would start with the resistance.

i just found today that the Finalizer is almost 2x the size of the Devastator.

maybe by the time the ST is over, we'll have an even bigger ship after the opening crawl!

There has to be. Its tradition and expected by the fans.

A pity they didn't think to use the superlaser dish in Rogue One as an opening title thing.
The dish could have been closely focused on at the start with a slow widening shot as the total expanse of the dish is slowly revealed and the scene concludes by being tractored into final position on the Death Star with an audible clunk, locking sound. Then a sudden full view of the completed Death Star with an imposing theme accompanying it.

    ;)

Well rumor has it they will be picking up right where Episode 7 ended. On Skellig Island. Its never been done in the history of any SW episode, theres always a smal time lapse.

I guess we will have to wait and see.

Space Shuttle undocks and flies to Snoke's bastion . Wounded Kylo waiting for a meeting with other knights in Vader's castle. Shadows are close to him and the screen is lightening. Next - Ahch-То, Island, Luke and Rey. \
I think this is no problem.

It's no rumor. This comes straight from Rian Johnson's mouth at Celebration. Episode VIII is picking up right where TFA left off. But we're still obviously getting an opening crawl, and that will still entail a pan of some kind; preferably to a ship. The movie could easily start with the First Order - or with the Resistance - before returning to Luke and Rey to see what they had to say to each other.

It will absolutely continue the tradition. My guess is that it starts with the Falcon approaching Ahch-To.

Yes. The Falcon, Rey, Luke, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and some puffins are already there. Maybe the island is the second scene with the first being a scene focusing on the Resistance's base, or what Kylo's been up to since the end of VII ? To go straight to the island will be ridiculous, the opening crawl would be be basically as i described earlier, or just be a recap of what happened in TFA.

Yes, but the Production Announcement Teaser they released a year ago showed that they will likely repeat the ending of TFA.

I never considered that they'd repeat any more than Rey's approach with the lightsaber. I think it would be really weird if they redid the whole journey.
