Maybe Luke's pupils are scattered all across the galaxy and brainwashed to forget their origins. Maybe this is how Kylo "destroyed everything". Maybe Snoke is to believe that Kylo is a Jedi killer but he begins to suspect the truth. Which is why Kylo is worried about Snoke being able to sense stuff about him.

So you're saying that Kylo was pretty much able to manipulate SNOKE ?! :O

Not manipulate. Hide things from him. I don't say he was able to do so. He hoped to be able to do so. Vader must have been able to hide his assassination plans from the Emperor for quite some time, too. And Vader is Kylo's hero.

Well Vader was caught...Kylo's is simply SCARED to be caught...I don't think Vader had a reality show that Kylo could watch to understand and fall in love with his grandfather...All Kylo was aware of was Vader's legend and his brief "Weakness" in turning to the light .

I respectfully disagree. Ben Solo was trained by the guy who is the son of Vader and who quite likely let it slip that his father had told him in ESB that he wanted to off the Emperor, and that he did exactly that in ROTJ. Luke would be an awful history teacher otherwise.

Do you think that Luke might have been trying ti bias Ben, which is why SNoke told Ben the truth about Anakin Skywalker's last moments on this mortal world to furhter destroy him ?

Well it's unintentionally biased in so far as Luke never got the chance to learn anything more about his father than the highly questionable tidbits Ben Kenobi fed him. With Snoke on the other hand, he strikes me as the kind of guy who willfully withholds information that might damage his agenda - just like Ben Kenobi. The certain point of view dilemma.

I sort of agree...what's causing Kylo's frak outs could also be that he knows both sides are trying to play him to their own gials but he doesn't know who to trust (?) .

Snoke knows all the intimate details of what happened to Vader. we get all that information in the novel / script. it was cut from the film. Snoke has brainwashed Ben Solo into believing that Vader was perfect in every way except that he had one serious flaw: sentiment.

Snoke thinks Kylo Ren suffers from that flaw too and reminds him of it several times.

and look at Ren: he is incapable of hiding much of anything from Snoke. it's why he retires to his Darth Vader shrine after Snoke tells him Han Solo's got BB-8: Snoke feels his call to the Light and Ren's trying to center himself so Snoke won't punish him. same thing happens when Ren tells him about Rey resisting him: Snoke accuses Ren of feeling compassion for her (because he does), and again Snoke threatens to punish him.

Ren may very well have an agenda we don't know about yet, but he completely wears his emotions on his sleeve. he's always on the verge of freaking out and this is well-established throughout the movie from the opening moments with Lor San Tekka.

he doesn't freak out over "the girl" any more than he freaks out over everything else. in fact, by the time he gets around to catching her, he seems quite at peace about it, comparatively speaking.

He doesn't "freak out" about her again either until she proves strong enough to resist his mind probe, which clearly surprised him. Before that, he was very calm, creepy, and confident when dealing with her.

right: frankly, you never see him so calm as when Rey catches the lightsaber.
he gets wadded up again after she fights back, but he's not angry or flipping out in that moment--not because he knows who she is, but because he recognizes in her a kindred spirit.

he's probably never had a real peer before.

if he knew who she was, they probably wouldn't have cut the "it is you" line from the film. in fact, they might have done this to try to avoid exactly this kind of confusion ~ hahaha.

I mean I wouldn't be at all surprised if that happens. But, just going by what I saw in TFA, I didn't get the sense that they knew each other. And all of the stuff that hinted at that in the novelization, is cut out of the film. All of it, almost as if deliberately.

I feel it was deliberate to, I knew if they were connected by the force & family bond Han's death would not have happened, Rey proved she was the stronger of the two.

Yes, I certainly feel that. And also that he's trying to communicate to both sides that there's kind of a third way, which he wants to establish.
I'm glad you bring this up. I feel this first "confrontation" with Lor San Tekka is super important. Kylo was probably glad he wore his helmet then because he must have been in tears when he had to cut down Max von Sydow! You don't hire von Sydow for a cheap shock. Lor San Tekka must have been a huge figure in Ben Solo's life.

What I think is that LST knew he was toast. He knew the First Order had found out about him and that's why he contacted Leia to pass on the map to her. He knew he wouldn't survive the raid.

If I remember correctly, the mission to Jakku was Snoke's order. And then Kylo is on that ship. Why is that? They don't need him there to fleece people. He only gets shot at. There won't be any witnesses on Jakku to remember his awesome cape. They've got stormtroopers to take Poe captive and bring him in for interrogation.

I guess he went for two reasons: Saying goodbye to Lor San Tekka and give him a mercy killing so they don't bring him back to Starkiller base for interrogation, and make sure that the map doesn't get on board his ship.

And in that last meeting, with First Order people around watching them, LST manages to soothe Kylo by insisting that his fate was not his fault, that "has happened" to him. I could write an entire post about their "encrypted" conversation but the gist I get from its subtext is that Kylo tells LST not to worry, that he can handle himself and that he knows what he's doing. And then he kills him with a clean lightsaber stroke so he won't get captured and tortured. This gets to me a lot more than the showdown with Han later.

    you've got some interesting ideas.

we do know that Kylo Ren is personally in charge of finding Luke Skywalker. that's pretty much his priority job according to Snoke. so it makes sense if they're after the map, he'd be on the ground to oversee it.

i don't see him mercy killing LST. i see him pissed off that LST has reminded him of his past. and Poe, well, he should have gone into the desert. he got himself captured by trying to defend LST.

as for the map, there's every indication that Ren wants it. really wants it. maybe not just for Snoke either. it's clear he's not playing games about finding it or else he'd have blown up BB-8 and been done with it (as Snoke ordered).

there's still a possibility that he has some agenda outside of Snoke's orders, but we might not know for sure until he and Luke come face to face.

I think that Kylo, like the Resistance, wants to get to Luke before the First Order does - for whatever reason. (I equate the First Order more with Hux & Phasma than with Snoke. He's probably above all that. He has other ways.)

Fresh from another viewing (with similar questions in mind) I could see no evidence (in the movie) indicating that Kylo has any knowledge of who Rey might be until he says "so this is the girl I've heard so much about."

Kylo's prior references to "a girl" and "scavenger" can be explained away as circumstantial. He later indicates he felt "she is strong with the force", is "unaware of her power", "untrained" and "growing more powerful".

But it is this information - coupled with events that then unfold - that make Kylo connect Rey to someone he has some knowledge of who must be both remarkable, reputable and of particular interest to him.

Note: Unless of course he had very recently (in a missing scene) heard a lot about her from Snoke or another. Unlikely though methinks.
