"In Life Debt, when he sneaks on the Imperial ship, and encounters Palpatine he clearly withstands his Force command." Where is this at in Life Debt I want to read this part again.

Maybe Palpatine knew that his grip on Anakin was slipping so he was planning on using Rax as a last ditch effort if the skywalkers failed and wanted to start grooming him

I remember this part quite clearly: Wendig clearly describes that Palpatine entered the room and that it felt like something was pulling Rax out of hiding, but he resisted whatever it was (that thing obviously being Palpatine using the Force in an attempt to pull him out of hiding).

Feels like Rax was so under utilized. Like a lot of people I thought he was Snoke after reading the second book in the Aftermath trilogy. He seems to be at least force sensitive and Palpatine was pretty adamant that he had a destiny. So did Rax fail because he died and he was not the one to take the remnants of the empire into the unknown regions? Did that failure open the door to Snoke taking charge of the Empire/First Order? Was the dark force Palpatine felt in the unknown regions Snoke? Did Palpatine intend for that dark force to take charge of the empire/first order? There was just a lot of set up and intrigue put into this character and for him to just apparently die seems to simple and end for him.

With multimedia stuff like this, I always have to wonder how much is foreshadowing, and how much is the authors working with what little info they personally know.

For instance, let's just assume that somehow Rax is Snoke. Would the writers know that for sure? Were they given a list of possible Snoke candidates, Rax among them, and decided to tease only the possibility of Rax's importance so as to not commit to it?

I'm sure Disney has a handle on things- but it does worry me still, especially since previous canon was scrapped for being a little messy.

I would be interested to know exactly how much freedom the authors of the books, comics, games ect are given and what information they are given leading into the writing process. From what I have read it seems like the authors outline their story and then a star wars story group says yes or no to specific aspects of the story.

It is a very interesting thing. The ahsoka book has something in the thank you section saying "Sorry about *Redacted for spoilers* " So that makes me wonder how much they know. I read that and think, was there some connection made by accident that couldn't be written about yet or did she know how something was going to be in future stories and write about it not knowing it wasn't allowed yet. That made me think that they are told things ahead of time.

    In the epilogue.

He hears a voice commanding him to come forward: “…in that single word is more than just a request—it has gravity to it. Like it’s pulling him willfully closer.” The boy resists it..planting his feet hard to the ground''

This is Palpatine using the Force to compel Galli, but the boy successfully resists him, which intrigues Palpatine making him grunt in amusement. This resistance shows that the young Gallius is very strong willed, and, with the descriptions of how he was being drawn to the Imperialis, possibly Force sensitive, but that's it.

Agreed, it's cloudy, but I also think Darth Sidious needed Anakin at the time for power and the jedi purge. Order 66.

This time he needed someone he felt potential in (for me that has always meant force wielding/sensitive coming from Palps) to take care of a sacred place on Jakku that was important 1000 years ago and would be again today.

Perhaps. But he had such confidence in Tarkin as well, perhaps also Thrawn. Just the way he went out in EE to me suggests he was merely human. But interesting point, definitely
