Yeah but the reason it stopped working wasn't because the light and the dark side weren't "together" enough.

Change can be good and doesn't necessarily need to be feared. Luke denouncing the Jedi order and its legacy as a reaction to his own failure and loss isn't really the best cue take for making those changes though.

Hmmm. I kinda see the point of the analogy here but I think the issue with the Jedi is not teaching the light side at the expense of knowledge of the dark. But the way things that might be connected to the dark side are characterised as sins or the path to sin. It would be like teaching people NOT to have sex and describing all the perfectly normal human impulses that are associated with it as the slippery slope to damnation.

For what it is worth, George Lucas has himself explained "balance in the Force" as absence of the Dark Side. The idea of someone tapping into "both sides" and therefore being better/in balance, is not a thing in Star Wars. (I could go on a bit about how it was definitely a thing for certain Gnostic groups in the first few centuries AD, but that's off topic  ). Another question is whether the Jedi Order as an organization and the custodians of the Force needed changing, and there are strong in-setting arguments for that; for one, both Ahsoka & Luke represents this view, and their voices are pretty important to Star Wars, but neither are "grey jedi" in the sense of juggling both sides, IMHO.

Concerning light and dark. The issue as far as I can see it is the Jedi really inspire fear of the dark side in their knights. But fear is also the path to the dark side.

Its like that paradox where the church is where you are taught to sin. That the whole concept of sinning and not sinning is programmed into you, so inevitably you will be tempted to try one of those sins or accept yourself as a sinner purely as a means to an end.

Anakin says it "I do not fear the dark side as you do..." He's confused using the dark side with not living in fear of it as he's been taught up to that point.

Fear without knowledge is ignorance. Ignorance leads to hate.

Yes, I know that's a generalized statement, but it fits in the SW context. Ignorance is never a good thing. In Real World terms, the logic, for example, of certain politicians regarding honest Black history and/or LGBTQ inclusivity in schools. The belief is that if you don't teach or discuss such things, they will just go away. If kids aren't allowed to talk about or even acknowledge their queer feelings, then surely they will just move on and be normal. That's fear breeding ignorance. That's not really a good analogy for Light side / Dark side, but more about the restrictive policy. Maybe a better example is a real discussion I had recently about how to keep kids safe from unintentionally taking harmful drugs in the form of laced candy, vape sticks, etc... The only logical way is to fully inform them of the danger. What can happen, how it can happen, and how to be aware.

And, lol, yes. All respect due, he is The Maker. But historically GL is renowned for, shall we say, not always speaking out of his mouth.

Seems like the Lindelof project is going to happen. I can't wait to learn a little more about it soon.
