would they already make a promo now if it wasnt going to be released till December or April ?? i mean if it wasnt going to be released till another 7 - 10 months then why shoot already now ???

 

These days I dont think they use old school promo's any more like the one i posted for T2. Now a days they just do teasers for a teaser/trailer. But to answer your question, the reason why they would shoot a promo now is to make sure that the cast is available for the shoot and not tied up in other projects.

No. Dont expect any Episode VIII news at SWC besides the title reveal, and not even that is a sure thing.

 

looking back i remember various sites reporting about leak descriptions for the teaser trailer. if there is video promo for Celebration there should be a leak description of it soon, right ??

 

Then, if anything like that leaks, it will be for the R1 trailer, footage, or whatever. But hardly any EpVIII footage will be shown, I think. Hope i'm wrong, though.

 

Theres is nothing special to leak if it's a photo shoot and not a video shoot.

If there is an Episode VIII video promo i'm sure it wont contain footage from the actual movie but rather be something like the one they showed for R1 in 2015..

 

i think something episode 8 related will be shown at Celebration. both Luke Rey Finn Poe and Kylo Ren is on the poster for celebration, they would not put them on the poster if their characters were not a part of Celebration.

 

Sounds about right.. I support that theory.

 

I just don't think it will be any kind of video. Unless they do something like the omaze x-wing reveal with Rey and Finn.

I still have a sneaking suspicion that Tran's character might be announced but I just think it's way too early for a teaser or anything that would reveal parts of the movie. In-fact the most likely outcome, imo, is that Celebration will be used heavily to almost tell the whole Rogue One story. I don't think that movie is going to keep many secrets come celebration time.

 

I agree that a video is not likely. I think we will get something. I'm hoping for a title. They should be getting close to finishing shooting by celebration and it was after shooting wrapped that we got the title for TFA

 

And the second TFA teaser wouldn't have featured a Luke voiceover if he didn't have lines in the movie, right?

Hamill is going to be there, and there may be a couple of photos shown, but we are so far away from December 2017, they are putting themselves in a tough spot if they show really anything new from EVIII.

JJ wasted so much time remaking ANH and kicked a massive number of cans down the road that EVIII has to deal with at a basic level.

What has Luke been doing on that island, and for how long? Who are the KOR? Do they still exist? Why do they exist? Why does Snoke look like a cross between Gollum and Jack at the end of Fight Club? What happened with Finn? How did Maz get that lightsaber? Where's Lando? What was up with that map? And who is maREY sue? Why is that fat jerk on Jakku the only one who gets to decide what is worth a portion? Etc.

Because TFA barely introduced dozens of concepts with barely any details so almost any photo they show at SWC is going to be a massive spoiler.

They can be careful and show "Poe walking away from his X-Wing" again, but even that would show details of the new base almost certainly.

They've got 18 months to fill with promos for E8, but must concentrate on R1 first.

I have to think we get the absolute minimum (the title and maybe five photos from EVIII) at SWC

 

If they don't show up I will be shocked. At least we have Peter & Anthony taking part

 

They could show a one minute teaser but it would overshadow Rogue One but maybe.

 

Well it's telling that Mark isn't coming to SWC because of prior commitments .

I thought Mark himself said he couldn't be there because of prior commitments but, if anything, they could show off the full designs for The KOR through A BTS doc during filming (if they're in it at all) and have the title revealed at the end

THIS. So much this.

I like TFA, it's a good movie. But what you're describing puts my exact feelings into text. There was a ton of stuff that we didn't really get in EP7. And what we did get, was a bit cheesy in places, to be honest.

Still love it, it comes after Empire and ROTS for me, tied with ROTJ. And it will all work out ok in the end if those very questions are addressed and the first film is just the intro to the new trilogy...but you're right - JJ left a lot of stuff just hanging there.

 

I could see them doing a short behind the scenes thing that doesn't give away the plot. Just like the one they showed at San diego comicon 2015.

Not this again, look just because they did it with TFA dosnt mean that they will do it with Episode VIII. Also TFA was only a year and a couple of weeks away when they announced the title and Episode VIII is more or less 1½ year away. Also JJ has his own way of promoting compared to most producers/writers, so you will probably see a different marketing strategy this time around than we saw with TFA.

Me either, if the dude talked to someone who saw actual Episode VIII footage he would have been told what they saw and he would have written it in his tweet. I dont believe that guys at all.

 

I agree with this, but at the same time I don't think it would be a bad thing to show a promo or teaser of sorts a SWC. Yes, there is a chance it might overshadow Rogue One, but with the recent...talks of reshoots, no matter how unfounded it may be (I personally don't believe the negativity in them, but it was there), it might not be a bad thing to show something that everyone will be watching instead - if only for a time.

And finally, showing footage of Episode VIII in some way, shape, or form, can separate the confusion between this movie and Rogue One. I've seen more casual fans - including my own parents - be slightly confused as to what Rogue One was. They don't follow Star Wars as closely as we on this forum do, so having some evidence to show them to say "This is Rogue One, that over there is Episode VIII, and here's the explanation of what Star Wars is doing" would be nice.

(You'd think that the Death Star would be a giant sign as to when the time period is, but the people were more confused as to why there was another Death Star rather than thinking about the time period R1 takes place in.)
