Glad folks are generally liking the first episode…but I thought it was incredibly lame. I’m not nearly as big of a fan of Mando as many on this board and the first episode of TBOB was mostly the worst of what Mando has to offer. This came across as nothing more than a Star Wars themed SyFy channel show…sub-par acting, silly dialogue and zero stakes to anything. It all looks terrible - as others have mentioned, the sets and costumes are WAY too clean…nothing looks “lived in” like the movies…it all looks like expensive back lot sets and the volume.

For me Star Wars is big and cinematic and epic. The Disney+ shows so far just don’t deliver the same feeling and the stories are not interesting or compelling. It’s a shame imo.

I’ll still watch just because it’s Star Wars, but this is far from must see TV. I’m still holding out hope Kenobi and/or Andor up the stories and production quality, but my hopes are diminishing with each new Disney+ episode.

Such a great start to this series, seeing his fall then restart to Fettdemption. So glad he didn't make a explosive exit from the sarlaac like in the comics & glad his escape was humble. I'm current on my 5th viewing.

Btw, that stormtrooper inside Sarlacc seemed a little out of place.
Was just me or the close-up of that trooper seemed a SW vintage figure?

Although I liked some points, the more I think of the episode, the lazier it seems. Just little worked.
    I need a second viewing

Great start! Really into it and I like Boba even more now. Still wouldn't say he's one of my top favorite characters and prefer Din but still a great watch and am intrigued for how the rest of the season plays out

I will be back later for more in depth conversation. I was a little underwhelmed too; but agree that we just came from some pretty epic episodes of Mando too. The line of the episode for me was “would you like your gamorreans hosed down and fed?”

The 1st set of flashbacks - fair and helpful.
The 2nd set of flashbacks - a waste of time. The action sequence is literally a plot device to get Boba Fett back to the Bacta Tank for more flashbacks. The only plus from this is they now have captured one of the attackers.

This episode was classic Filoni - start out slow and build into the story.

Overall I was good with the first chapter ... mostly because I trust that this was our jumping-in point and I have faith that whatever is to come. A couple things threw me:
    1. Someone mentioned earlier about his weight in the flashbacks. This also stuck with me. I expected some de-aging (or de-weighting!).
    2. Also mentioned earlier: the stormtrooper in the sarlacc was straight OG Kenner action figure.
    3. The whole sequence with the Tuskens really dragged. Seems they could have cut some fat there. And I was never clear why they kept the two as prisoners other than to torture them. Did they have a reason to even save him and bring him back to camp? And trusting the youngling with them was odd. Oh, and the sand monster was straight-up Kraken.
    4. The Mayor's twilek guy was .... not very Star Wars-y. I assume he's the equivalent to Horatio Sanz in TM. His inflection and overall demeanor bumped me.

I liked Bobba's borderline naivete as he takes his first steps into crime boss. And the fact that he's not invincible. Fennec is always great. The ST flashbacks were very cool (esp. Kamino). I'm giving this a 6.5 out of 10, knowing it will get better.

It was Matt Berry, but it's not clear if that was 8D8. Some sources say it was 8D8, while others say it was another droid of the same model called UK2-B. Apparently the credits say UK2-B but the closed captions say 8D8.
And Matt Berry is also famous for Disenchantment. :D

I really enjoyed the first episode. I guess some people weren't that impressed with the escape from the Sarlacc, but I thought it was amazing. I wasn't sure if we were even going to see it at all since we already saw him in the Mandalorian.

    Another question:
Was that the former Lars homestead? If so, I'm not exactly sure what was going on there.

I wasn’t sure that they’d show the actual escape either, but it made sense in the context of showing the physical trials he’s been through since and why he’s in the condition he is.

The escape itself just ‘whelmed’ me… not over, not under. Just whelmed. If there is such a thing… @Angelman will probably come along and tell me it’s an ancient Nordic term for trifle or the collective noun for fruit bats now though :D :D

i didn’t take it as theirs, just a similar property. it would be a conceit too far for it to be the same place with the residents suffering like that… again.

For what its worth, I have absolutely loved the exploration of the Tusken community by both The Mandalorian and now BoBF. I guess having only ever seen them portrayed as marauding chaotic beings in the films didn't leave much room for me to consider them to have an organized tribal system, capable of trading with others, having moral values, etc.

I don't think I am jumping to conclusions by assuming that (after at least one of them realizing who actually slayed the sand beast) Fett has now been accepted into the Tusken clan, perhaps not as an equal but at least not as a captive. They are definitely building some sort of partnership there. And I really, really hope it pays off in the form of someone challenging Fett & Fennec with a "Oh yeah? You and what army?" ....only to have a massive horde of Sandpeople crest the dune behind him.

Your post really comes as a surprise.

This really was for me out of question. I always thought of them of having a organized tribal system etc. Like it's obvious from where Lucas took his inspiration from (Dune and those are inspired by the Bedouin, the Arab nomads).

This post of yours make me think that maybe I take too much for given and what feels like Spoon feeding is actually needed by the average viewers.

+ We already explored their culture in TPM and AOTC. I wasn't surprised at all with the Tuskens in 'The Mandalorian' and TBOBF.

I enjoy the insight look of the Tusken community too and would like to see more alien races and their cultures explored as well. I don't want the whole season to have flashbacks but I am hoping the next episode shows more of Boba being taken in by Tuskens and know why he didn't leave to find his armor or ship!

Hopefully the next episode is the end of the bacta tank and big flashback scenes though and starts to focus on Crimson Dawn and the mayor by the end of it

They should limit the flashbacks to one per episode. I don't think were done with them, he still has to become king of the sandpeople. There's what 5 years between rotj and mando. They should have made it a two episode or an hour episode premiere. But i guess they wanted you guessing who the ninjas were for a whole week.

Im going to take a guess that they work for the Mayor as he didn’t seem to be too impressed with Boba taking over from Jamba & probably see a opportunity to stake a claim to it for himself. Oh & I would bet quite a few CANTINA credits tha the guy he sent in his place ends up as a Rancour chew toy :D.

Either the Mayor or the pretty Twi'lek. Maybe she found some other protector or wants independence. But, I agree, the Mayor's majordomo is dead for sure.

Just finished it and found it to be good. The strength of the story is not the heroics or badassery or whatever, but the expansion of SW lore. I loved to see more Tusken Raider culture explored, and just more of Tatooine society in general. Also, there were SO many callbacks in this one! I particularly loved D8D. Moreover, did y'all notice those ACTUALL friggin' Boston Dynamic dog-droids they Star Wars'ed up and put in the show? Brilliant!
    spot-robot-boston-dynamics.jpg

Good episode that got all the necessary beats out of the way. I'm looking forward to seeing Boba Fett establishing himself in the next episode, before some real trouble arrives to shake things up and kick the plot into high gear. ('Cause... you know, they're obviously not going to spend all their time consolidating their criminal empire; there's gonna be more to this show than just racketeering and turf wars).

    Solid stuff; 7/10.

I must say, however, I do wonder what Rodriguez meant by, "every episode has big surprises", 'cause... this one didn't. Hm...
