I'm doubtful on flashbacks. Part of Star Wars' signature is starting in media res, starting right into the action. There's no exposition when the Tantive IV is fired on. Star Wars, if written, makes sense in the present tense -- as close to in-the-moment with the actors. It's part of why everyperson characters like Luke made the OT a success.

I don't like them either in Star Wars...but they're happening.
They've borrowed the Spock Prime mind-meld flashback concept from the 2009 movie using the Maz Kanata character to show a flashback.
They've borrowed quite a few concepts from Star Trek 2009 for this one.

I hate the idea of flashbacks in Star Wars -- doesn't matter how it's done. Star Wars, if anything, had flashforwards, like Anakin's dream and Luke's vision in Empire, and even these aren't done in a real flashy way, but they're never flashbacks.

Interesting thing about Luke's vision, is that we, the audience, never saw anything of it. We just saw Luke with his eye's closed describing what he saw. Which is what I didn't like Anakin's dream in ROTS.

The only issue with this ending is it doesn't give us any excitement to look forward to visually
Maybe ten kicking the kids butts
But even that is a blah ending as it is the ground that stops the fight
    And they run
Then it is just ten minutes of traveling
    And end

But Rey meets Luke... which means that when VII releases 18 months later, we get to see more Luke.

I'm very optimistic and extremely hopeful that this will not be the ending. Remember, no one knew the real ending of Empire except for Lucas, Kershner, and Hamill, until after the film came out. Before that, the news outlets and spoiler crowd expected the plot twist to be that Obi Wan had killed Luke's father, which is pretty dull if you ask me compared to the real revelation which made movie history with that one liner and put a stamp on popular culture, big time! I remember introducing Star Wars to some x girlfriends of mine that actually hadn't seen the OT lol and every time they see that scene where Vader admits that he is the father (and if they hadn't already known from popular culture) that was the one thing that made their jaws drop, so I'm betting they're not going to let us down with the current version we seem to have our hands on, which will definitely not live up to or surpass the OT. I still think the leaked documentation/ storyboards strewn together from "leaks" so far could be the version that they expected to leak from some people working on the movie. Also, all the teasers so far seem to reflect the only things that were guessed correctly and wouldn't spoil anything new, we still have no confirmation of ANY super-weapon, no confirmation of a flash back, and no confirmation of Luke being in the flashback and/or for 30 seconds in the final scene! :)

The Star Wars twitter is referring to what they've officially released in terms of footage. "The big moments haven't been revealed [in the footage that we've put out there]." That's the context.

Yup, you're absolutely right that is the context, it started with a highly popular and entertaining social media personality that tends to complain about everything in movies and most of the Star Wars films and how his own script ideas would be better than those of said movies despite having no credentials or qualifications himself, who is complaining about their marketing strategy (of which he also has no qualifications or credentials himself, well at least in the film industry) and in particular what they've released previous to the third teaser officially through other media, in this case the poster with Finn holding the lightsaber, as the original tweet was regarding the teaser not having as big of an impact because we had already seen Finn wielding what is assumed to be Luke's old Bespin saber in the poster, (which is true, although casual fans may have missed the poster art,) to which the second tweet is replying to that and also complaining that they hoped they weren't going to kill any surprises just for the sake of marketing and promotion, to which the official Star Wars Twitter account replies saying no big moments have been revealed yet, so any big moment, in footage or from official news or merchandise (The planet being Jakku, the names of the characters, etc.) no "big moments" have been revealed. Personally, I'm hoping that alludes to something at least interesting, and hoping that since I assume they're aware of makingstarwars and starwars7news, that there are some major plot twists in store for us. I wouldn't consider any plot twist being a game changer in the ending spoiler or overall speculated storyline we have thus far. Han Solo dying being the big moment or the reveal that Kylo is his son? Even non-obsessed, more casual fans assume this will happen, but the events surrounding this are still, as we know, pretty much unknown to us, which leads me to believe they have a lot of the story safely under wraps. Considering the history of secrecy in Star Wars and secrecy in J.J.'s work, the ending is going to be something "Uber"-hidden. I'm still ardent in my belief that the leaked documentation, even if the source is someone that worked on the movie, could be completely bogus seeing as the actors didn't see the whole script, JJ's dedication to the mystery box, the supposed misinformation campaigns, and finally about what I mentioned happened in Empire in my previous post. From all the evidence we have seen so far, Hamill reporting he had to hide under a hood walking from his trailer to the sound stage because of drones overhead, (for me, I am guessing that he was at Pinewood, Skellig, and Greenham Commons) if we look further into the currently held assumption: he is AT MOST in the flashback scene (still not sure they will have that, but could be, nothing revealed in an official capacity so far leads us to believe that) and the ending 30 second clip in the cave, that means:
    1) They will have to make him look younger in the flashback if he appears in the flashback and it's really when Kylo and Rey are much younger
    2) They will have to write around/ explain why Luke went against the main aspect of his character which is that he will risk anything to help his friends, but does not do so in this film ESPECIALLY when, through the force, he would be able to sense that Han and Leia were in some kind of danger or that there is some significant conflict going on where their lives would be hanging in the balance
    3) Why R2 is with C3PO and Leia, if Teaser 2 is the goodbye scene where Luke leaves R2 on that rather desert like looking terrain, did someone come and pick up R2? Can R2 fly a ship or use his little rocket propulsion system to meet up with some other resistance guys or Jedi (Maz?) on the planet? We have seen in other footage that R2 is with C3PO at the command center with Leia.
    4) Why he was worried about drones in Skellig when we have only heard of drones and seen drone footage at Greenham Commons ;)
    5) That scene in the Teaser where he was stroking R2 and looking into the fire was shot in a parking lot (or what seems like a very similar shot in the day) outside what seems like Pinewood (correct me if I'm wrong...) with J.J. and the crew all around them.
    6) The line in the trailer that Luke is speaking... I know it was taken from ROTJ and he had to speak the lines again but.. I sort of believe that since the quote is in the teaser, on the EW cover, etc, makes me very hopeful that Luke will speak that line in the movie, to either Finn or Rey. It's going to be one heck of a flashback if we have conversations between Luke and Padawans.. and 30 seconds is a short amount of time to jam in some dialogue like that, after I am guessing they introduce each other or at least a hello first?
    7) J.J. Abrams explores 'Who IS Luke Skywalker' in the Force Awakens. NOT for the ST, it was specifically a question to J.J. and specific to the Force Awakens. That's how they convinced him to get on board, you don't get to know somebody in a few flashback clips and a 30 second climax in a cave
    8) Again, the vast majority of everything in the spoiler that has not been revealed and confirmed officially can still be complete bantha poodoo. Concept art is concept art, I mean McQuarries concept art IS BEING USED for the Force Awakens and was used for some design aesthetics of the Prequels precisely because it was not all used for ANH and is abstract, vague, and in the new Force Awakens specific art some characters were there as placeholders i.e. Vader, white Finn, etc...
    9) The scripts were all fragmented, out of order, on red paper, their mobiles had to have tape over the camera... security measures were comprehensive to say the least! You really don't think there are alternate versions.. some people working on the film sure think they got the story right, but I have a feeling it's Kasdan, J.J. and maybe one actor/ actress that know the legit start middle and end.
    10) We've seen him in his white/ beige robes channeling a stoic Gandalf as a Jedi maturity, authority and zen, we've seen him in teaser 2 with what appears like black robes, (although I admit his sleeve is white like in the leaked picture) we've heard of Kyle's leaked scene where Kylo, Han and Luke apparently are in a stand off or something with each other, we know that Luke filmed with a beard and without a beard on the day or so immediately after filming "officially" wrapped up which some suggest could mean that he shot a secret scene ;) This is an important one because at Greenham we have the Falcon, we have Poe's X-Wing, we have the Resistance, if Luke is there it certainly brings into question what we know so far, that Luke's screentime is limited to his new Jedi Order somewhere, and a 30 second cave/ throne room scene.
    11) They really waited all this time, hid his face in the teasers and SDCC and comiccon and other footage and kept this shroud of secrecy over him, DELETED the photo that leaked of him in the white/beige robes (implying that the photo was in fact real and they didn't want it getting out there meaning they probably have a surprise appearance) and all just to reveal that BOOM: He's not in the movie for more than 30 seconds, and maybe a (blashpemous!) flashback scene.
    12) A local news website reported "An Irish industry source working at the location has hinted that the final scenes of the film could be shot on the island." ---> "hinted" "could"
    13) All this running around with his saber and talking about him and searching for him and we're not going to get the big payoff of getting to see him actually in a fight with someone? As we've heard ad naseum, we have waited 30 years for this, they signed Hamill, apparently rewrote Arndt's script to include the legacy characters more, Luke's physical regimen and nutritional plan... and we're not going to get an explanation from him about the force awakening and why he went into hiding? Why even have him at Skellig if he's just sitting in a interior throne room which they could have (and probably have) shot in pinewood... and I saw in a video by another Star Wars site that when they went to Skellig it was confirmed that they did not film in the cave or the monastery side of the island and mostly filmed outside on the other side of the island, there's apparently thousands of steps that lead up to some small huts/ monasteries but no filming was done there.
    14) Would it not be the greatest resurrection of the series if they kept making everyone think that Luke was not showing up, all hope is lost (a little like ANH when Vader's tie fighter locks onto Luke's X-Wing) and there is absolutely no chance of success and then, out of nowhere like Han and the Millenium Falcon, Luke shows up to save the day? That would have people cheering, and it would rival and possibly surpass the zenith of satisfying climaxes that was the ANH ending, that ending that made Star Wars the classic that it is and still the most beloved sci-fi film series to hit the big screen of all time.
    15) Chewie went to park the Falcon while Rey goes to the cave alone to return his lightsaber?
    16) Wouldn't Finn want to get trained too? Since he is the one holding the lightsasber, and supposedly feels/ discovers he can use the force on Jakku, etc etc
    17) It's freakin' Luke, man!!

Exactly. Didn't Attack Of The Clones do a similar thing with Anakin's mom?

First, I don't have a big problem with a Star Trek style 3rd act action marathon where the young leads get rescued by Chewbacca in the battered Falcon or they square off against Ren in some psydo-Japanese martial arts style forest battle. Larry Kasdan has a long standing rep for Japanese film history influences, ;) .
It's shown up in a few of his films like The Bodyguard & Silverado.
I think it will really irk & annoy the big Star Wars fans if Luke is only in the last 5-10min. :(
It goes against logic that Mark Hamill would be in the UK for months or pop up in different places for scenes that most actors could complete in 4/5 working days.
I've also posted a few times that if IMDb is listing actors as "Jedi" then they might be killed off or wiped out in a major battle scene. (lightsaber)
I'm at peace with Han Solo being aced if it makes sense or let's the new actors take over the main story.
I would prefer R2 and C3PO last thru all 3 films. I'm not fond of the BB8 droid but it's okay if he stays a secondary character.

    TFM
ps: It might be possible that Maz is a original force sensative student of Luke in the post battle of Endor era but she goes underground as a junk dealer/smuggler pirate after Luke's Jedi Order is destroyed.
Maybe the novel Aftermath in late 2015 will clear this up.

I agree, I think Maz Kanata is Luke's padawan, and they both go into hiding because of whatever happens in the flashback(s).

Maz Kanata is one delivering the lightsaber to Leia, why would you take Lupita's role & have just as a servant ot Luke, come on she is more than that, I would rather have her killed off that suffer that fate.

Huh? Was Obi-Wan the "servant" of Qui-Gon? What an odd interpretation.

Most casual fans don't even know of the existence of the movie. I've talked to them, and they're unaware of it. Most don't expect Han to die. That's why I'm gung-ho on seeing marketing with the Big 3. Without them, I probably wouldn't see the movie.

This idea was disproved in a different thread.
Basically, we know for fact that Mark returned home after the table read, and wasn't back in the UK until some time after the 12th of July. His first confirmed presence in the UK was from a photo he shared when he saw "Monty Python Live" on the 20th. His first actual filming confirmation was the 28th of July (Skellig Michael). He then spent the first week of August in Liverpool, with his family, visiting historical Beatles sites, which would have prevented him from filming. Following that, production went on a 2 week break, during which Hamill was back home before the 23rd of August. September is a bit of an unknown, though we do know that Pip Andersen was filming in the last week of the month, and Pip never met Hamill in the whole time he was filming (which includes a number of dates from July). When Hamill was seen with Carrie Fisher at the Golden Heart Awards Gala in California on the 1st of October, his hair and beard had grown longer, and he even admitted that he hadn't seen a stylist in a while. 3 weeks later, Fisher had a birthday celebration in London on the 21st, and Hamill wasn't there, but the following day he shared a photo of himself at home with one of his dogs, his hair and beard appearing even longer than at the charity event in the beginning of the month. On the 31st of October, he shared a photo of himself standing outside Pinewood Studios, with his wife, and his "contractually obligated" beard noticeably missing, just in time for the wrap party.

So unless they wanted his hair growing out of control for certain scenes he was only on set for 2-3 weeks max, with a possibility that he filmed another few days after the wrap party, without the beard. IF they did want some crazy beard in the movie, then he may have spent twice as long as that....

Also, the argument of time spent on set being directly related to screentime is moot. Greg Grunberg spent 7 weeks on the set, and he's a minor character, while Oscar Isaac spent about 8 weeks total (mostly in the months of June and September), and has a considerably larger role than both Greg Grunberg and Mark Hamill.
