Yes. Yes and yes. After waiting all these years to finaly get them on screen we pretty much got next to nothing. No demonstration of force powers or how their weapons functioned other than high tech clubs to hit Ben in the face with. Yea that part fell way short. Wayyyy short. But, I'm over it. I'm just enjoying everything I liked and loved about the movie.

Is this a quote from somewhere else? Or did I just lose my place for second while light skipping?

Thought they were underused and the group was never really explored in the films. No interaction with Kylo Ren, we were introduced to them with basically a Stormtrooper pointing and saying "Knights of Ren" which felt lazy to me. Some decent scenes with them in but on the whole felt that they could have been left out of the films completely and we wouldn't notice.

I'm on the same page with you. They offered pretty much nothing to the story. Not even kidding...they just stood around looking like Organization XIII.
    upload_2019-12-31_10-47-9.jpeg

    Here's my thoughts:

Calling them the Knights of Ren and not the Knights of Wren was a huge missed opportunity. Here's some cliffnotes:
    • Clan Wren were allied with Death Watch (pre-Siege of Mandalore)
    • Death Watch were Separatist allies during The Clone Wars
    • The Separatists were (secretly) led by Darth Sidious/Palpatine

Okay, let's move on to our next set of notes:

    • Sabine Wren. Yep, just the name, that's all we need here.
    • Who had a hardcore juvenile crush on Sabine Wren? Ezra Bridger.
    • Who's the only known "Jedi" to demonstrate the ability to travel between dimensions (prior to Rey/Kylo)? That'd be Ezra.

      What am I getting at?

    • Last known whereabouts of Ezra Bridger? Lost in Space with Admiral Thrawn (still missing after the Battle of Endor).
    • Oh, did I mention that Thrawn (yup, of the Galactic Empire) also happens to be a Sabine Wren fanboy?

Ezra Bridger has a plethora of third-party Linkedin connections to Sidious:
    • Death Watch (via Clan Wren)
    • Thrawn
    • Maul was his frik-frakin "master" for a wink
    • He briefly trained under Ahsoka (Vader's apprentice)

    • Last we heard, Ahsoka (Vader's former apprentice) and Sabine (from former Death Watch allied clan Wren) were searching for Ezra (formerly apprenticed under Maul) and Thrawn (of the Galactic Empire).
    • WOW! So many ties to the Empire!!!
If they had been called the Knights of WREN, we'd have an opportunity to insert lots of awesome speculation (cue Seratonin, cue Dopamine) about Ezra forming the Knights of Wren (with various ties to Sidious) and teaching inter-dimensional travel in his "school of thought". That could potentially explain at least some of the inter-dimensional connection (dyad, if you please) between Rey (a Palpatine) and Ben (a Knight of Ren) in the new trilogy.

I will never not be peeved about this humongoooo missed opportunity.

Oh, and as a sidenote...it's worth stating that the Knights of Ren look like a ragtag team of weaponry enthusiasts. How very Mandalorian of them.

Well, JJ and Terrio just didn't give them time to shine- like the guys from the Raid or the Sith Troopers, they're all had a cool design and stuff, but were not given a chance to do something cool on screen.

I suppose the Knights of Ren, i.e. who they are, where they came from, how Ben became their master and/or recruited them, and other things like that, will be addressed in supplementary content like comic books or novels.

In the movie, like General Pryde, they seem to have been under Palpatine’s command as they ( mysteriously) show up on Exegol and fight Ben. I hope that is addressed in other supplementary material too, I mean, where they fit in the Snoke/Palpatine broader plan.

Which in and of itself is a trope in Star Wars (Phasma, Boba).
I just don't see why a throwaway line in the film lead to such an uproar. It was a mystery box. Like everything else.

One thing that its confusing to me: who the KOR obey? Kylo, Snoke or Palpatine?
Snoke says that Kylo is the master of KOR in TFA. But at the end of TROS it seems that they obey to Palaptine...bu they were with Kylo during most of the movie. They just appeared like magic in the end.

The Knights of Ren follow Kylo Ren, I would imagine. Kylo Ren is Darth Sidious' lackey.

When Ben Solo renounces the Dark Side and his masterhood of the Ren, the Knights of Ren no longer follow him. To clarify, the KOR follow their master, Kylo Ren, not their non-master, Ben Solo.

Either the masterhood of the KOR reverts back to Sidious, or perhaps they chose another Master among themselves that we never learn about, who, of course, in return answers to Sidious.
